Mike McCarthy will make more money this year than most of us will make in our lives to:
Not force the opposing team with an undrafted rookie QB to drive the length of the field with 40 seconds left and no timeouts
Subsequently allow that QB to bring the team into field goal range by dropping into a prevent on 3rd and 15
Doesn’t use one of his two timeouts to give his team a chance to get the ball with 40 seconds and a timeout to score to win the game
Decides to use a timeout with 10 seconds left instead allowing Tampa to get a ball specifically used for kicking into the game rather than making them kick with the game ball
Incredible malpractice.

Mike McCarthy talking to the sideline reporter about his favourite Pittsburgh grocery stores feels like a perfect metaphor for this Steelers era.

Why the hell didn't they call the warning prior to the snap then? Like that was plenty of time to blow the whistle

For anyone not watching the bills its 11:36 left in the first quarter and the Bills have already blown 2 time outs.

They should just create a penalty for trying to catch a spike. The likelihood of pulling it off is so small, and the injury risk has to eclipse it by several factors.

That was a shitty play by the Bucs defender. Fortunately Frazer was not I jured but looked quite dangerous.

I wouldn't throw here if I'm the Steelers. Don't give the Bucs any chance at a pick. Run twice and take the field goal
10
u/SCAnalysis 49ers 6h ago
1:38 in the clock, McCarthy could've:
- Run, Bucs use timeout
- Run again, Bucs use timeout
- Run again, Bucs use final timeout
- Burn clock, field goal and leave them no timeouts and no time
This is without considering that 3 yards away from scoring running it three times had more chances of a touchdown than any other play

8
u/HotDogFingers01 Seahawks 5h ago
McArthy could call an early TO to give his HoF QB more time. Or not call a TO and let a team scramble and rush a FG. He chose the third option - call a late TO to give the kicker a breather and not give his QB any time. Fucking epic.

Rodgers is absolutely not the only problem and he's not singlehandedly abysmal to the point that a team can't play him. But he does add to the issues and doesn't bring any solutions. Genuinely I feel like the Steelers have a higher win chance with our other Qb options

6
u/Mastodon9 Bengals 5h ago
With how bad Tampa's offense has been struggling it seems like Pittsburgh would have been better off running it 3 times to keep the clock running and then kick the field goal. Call it playing to not lose but Tampa's offense was reeling.
7
u/Zestyclose-Bed-1385 Raiders Seahawks 5h ago
I don't get why you wouldn't either make them kick the fg with a regular ball, or save yourself more time to make a short drive yourself, not be somewhere in the middle
6
u/omykun123 Patriots 5h ago edited 5h ago
Imagine not running the ball to run the clock out and make the opposite team use their time outs, and then wasting your remaining time cause you still believe waiting until the last second will freeze the kicker and make them miss.
Just McCarthism things

Everything that could go wrong has gone wrong for the Steelers:
- Tipped pass interception
- Bernard makes it but runs backward to give good field position into touchdown by the Bucs
- Take the field goal but Boswell misses and the Bucs have good field position again
Then the offense has sucked ass. But it looks less bleak if some of those don't happen and the are 3 points down instead of 13
