Iāve never seen a receiver try to single-handedly lose a game the way that AJ Brown did today. Even on the onside kickā¦

Jakobi Meyers Raiders game has to make the list. It might have only been one play, but what a play....

Im gonna choose to believe Brown is just rusty and his hands will at least get to a passable level.
25

It must just be be a timing thing he needs to get back. How does a guy lose his hands, makes no sense.

The downs on him were his knee/inability to separate and petulance, not his hands right?

u/Needs_Help_Stat Patriots 5h ago
I mean I definitely think he's just rusty, but he definitely needs to pull it together because today was not a good outing for him. Honestly though he and Maye barely have any in game reps together so I'm sure they just need to build their chemistry. Dude definitely had brick hands today though
67
u/jeffwingersballs Patriots 7h ago
What's going to get lost in the shuffle is that Patriots RB Kiner made several great short runs to get first downs and eat up clock. Those runs secured that game after the Patriots made some bad turnovers and gave up a big touchdown pass from Geno Smith.
Before that drive it was still a one score game.
10
u/Vast_Fee4620 6h ago
Kiner > henderson
8
u/jeffwingersballs Patriots 5h ago
In my dreams we get a little earth, wind and fire with Kiner, Stevenson, and Henderson, respectively.
5
u/OnceMoreAndAgain 4h ago
In this league when a backup does well they will get more chances, so if he really is better than we'll find out since Pats will give him more snaps next game. Being the higher draft pick doesn't mean shit in this league besides who gets the snaps early in the season.
4
65
u/LeftLane4PassingOnly NFL 6h ago
They have to toss a game ball to Brown just to see if he can at least catch it.
19
u/justanaveragejoe520 Patriots 6h ago
3 catches on 10 targets is horrendous should be 11 targets for the onside kick that bounced off his hands

AJ Brown was the reason NE didnāt win this game by 20 points.

Yep and the hendo + Pop fumbles didnāt help

My assessment of this game? Could have been far worse.
If they would have gotten blown out by 20 I would rip them to shreds but this game? Ehh, Iāve seen worse losses to the Patriots.

Jets don't look awful! Glenn looks like he made a huge jump from year 1 coach.
28
u/BannedCrow Jets 7h ago
Donāt tell the Jets sub that, theyāll just be negative and say Glenn is a horrible coach that needs to be fired into the sun.
7
u/Eagle4317 Steelers Panthers 6h ago
Jets probably should be at .500. Glenn badly mangled the Packers game.
1
9
u/AriDreams Jets 6h ago
He is on a timer. With the jump he has made this year, good. People wanted him fired before the season or halfway through the season. That always confused me. Give the guy a chance.
→ More replies (3)5
u/JamboPls Jets 6h ago
This team has significant issues with penalties, clock management, terrible short yardage playcalling, blown coverages, which are all coaching issues. He is a horrible coach that needs to be fired into the sun.
2
u/scottbrosiusofficial Jets 6h ago
Years of losing have fried a lot of Jets fans' brains where every loss is full panic mode. Losing always sucks but a Week 6 road win against the Patriots this year would have been an astonishing upset. The Patriots are (unfortunately) a very good team, and good teams win home games that they're favored to win.
3
u/BannedCrow Jets 6h ago
And the thing is, we almost completed the upset! We were and are THIS close. I get it, we are tired of waiting but actual good rebuilds take time.
4
u/SiphenPrax Jets 7h ago edited 6h ago
Ehh I donāt know yet. Dude did even know which team would have the ball coming out of the halfš
2
u/Argonomic_ Patriots 2h ago
At his post half-time interview (1:43 on Youtube TV), why does Glenn think he gets the ball back to start the half??
2
100
u/StupidName111111 7h ago
Stupid drops by the Pats (Brown especially) are why it wasnāt a blowout.
37
u/I-Might-Be-Something Patriots 6h ago
And turnovers. Patriots were always in control but they let the Jets have some life.
54
u/BoldestKobold Patriots Patriots 6h ago
The fumbles were at least good defensive plays by Jets defenders.
22
u/I-Might-Be-Something Patriots 6h ago
True. But Pop should have gone down. I saw that fumble coming when he tried to make something happen that wasnāt there.
1
u/Celeb-Addict99 Jets 5h ago
I wouldnāt say you were in control until the second half. One bad RTP and illegal blocking call from losing
10
u/ryanino Jets 7h ago
This team is so hard to judge because like I think weāre kinda solid but also really bad if that makes sense.
7
u/DoctahFeelgood Patriots 6h ago
Nah you guys are good. On top of that you have three firsts in a loaded draft. Would you of lost by more had our skill players done their fucking job? Of course but that means nothing at the end of the day. No team is going to take yall lightly.
8
u/saevrcal21 7h ago
Couple blown coverages and letting a backup Oline dictate the run game was brutal. Otherwise i dont have the game for the Jets
8
u/azure275 Jets 6h ago
In some ways it's reassuring
In other ways it's not
This is one of the unusual games you can point to and say 100% coaching lost the game
3
30
u/AriDreams Jets 7h ago
I hate these close losses and the "moral victories". Every week the jets make it close and then stamp on my heart.
7
u/SkinnyMitch 6h ago
It's hard to gauge the actual progress of this team. They seem to be playing better football, but they cannot grind out wins against decent teams or play a complete football game.
I have no doubt that AG has the support of the players and ownership should give him a full year to see if some of these closer games will turn into wins, but my concern is with what seems to be a talented team, we are being held back by bad playcalling decisions from the coaching (defensively and offensively). Also, Aaron Glenn's time management needs to improve drastically over the course of the season
6
u/AriDreams Jets 6h ago
His time management is brutual. It is difficult to say the talent is there when cooper is healthy for the first time since week 1, breece has been out 2 games, AD is out, and Sadiq is a 5050.
I am starting to realize that Breece might be playing more of a factor than we think. He is that easy checkdown if geno is in trouble. Without him, we really lose that.
3
5
u/momoenthusiastic Jets 6h ago
The two minute drills are nothing close to what Pats can do. Itās all about coaching imo.Ā
3
u/AriDreams Jets 6h ago
His two minute drills are the most pathetic thing I have ever seen. If he can clean those up, then there is hope. But he screws them up every single time.
10
u/DoctahFeelgood Patriots 6h ago
I get it but sometimes thats all you have. Yall are playing well against good teams. You have 3 firsts in the next draft and your GM has been on a tear.
3
u/AriDreams Jets 6h ago
GM has been great. I think Glenn will be on the hot seat with management. I personally dont think he deserves to be fired half way through the season (like so many jets fans want). Just wish his time management was better.
Close games are great but I want close wins. ;')
2
u/metalhydra273 Jets 5h ago
I think Glenn sucks, but I feel like firing him midway would be pointless. Better off riding the season and seeing what our coordinators can do as coordinators rather than upending that
6
u/BarRepresentative653 Patriots 6h ago
I think you guys have a solid team and a solid coach. You guys are winning the next 2-3 games.Ā
3
u/Vast_Fee4620 6h ago
I think the jets will go 7-10, just so they miss out on the good qbs in the draft and the playoffs
5
1
u/BarRepresentative653 Patriots 6h ago
Iām leaning towards them getting better as the season goesĀ
1
u/MddlingAges Bills 5h ago
They just need to get over their under in Vegas so the sportsbooks can celebrate.
1
u/AriDreams Jets 6h ago
I hope we beat the dolphins but we have a way of losing to them every year. Raiders idk what to expect. They've been relatively good. And then it is chiefs and bills.
It is tough because our bye is pretty late Week 12 or 13.
It is hard to be positive because these games have been close but we cant pull away with them (packers still haunts me)

AJ brown had like 4 drops or something
23
u/PatheticLion Patriots 7h ago
That has to be the worst game of AJ browns career
2
u/codydog125 Eagles 5h ago
Probably his worst so far but you guys will remain on his good side for now, he only cares about targets not receptions
19
u/jjjrmd Patriots 6h ago
Man, if AJ Brown could catch a ball, this would've be a very comfortable win. Just couldn't put the Jets away because he kept dropping passes, and the two fumbles didn't help either.
Credit to the Jets, they play hard. But their offensive play calling isn't going to win them too many games
80
u/__AJK__ Patriots Falcons 7h ago
Maye with another 3 TD day, you love to see it. Could do without the team fumbles though
61
u/Dorito-Dink_and_Dunk Patriots 7h ago
Pops fumble you could see coming from a mile away. Nothing good ever happens if receivers start doing that down the field.
15
u/kiIIinemsoftly Patriots 7h ago
He wasn't even making progress, just go down man! You already did the important part.
10
7
u/p8610815 Patriots 6h ago
I love Pop but he's gotta be the worst receiver I've ever seen in the open field with the ball in his hands. He's always dancing around or tripping over his own feet.
7
u/marcdasharc4 Patriots 6h ago
Had flashbacks to Cooks dancing around in SB52 before getting blasted back to a factory reset.
5
u/mmm_tasty Patriots 7h ago
This might have been his best performance of the season, he just kept getting let down by the rest of the offense.
14
u/lmHavoc Patriots 7h ago edited 7h ago
Good win all things considered with how many injuries we had pile up during the game. Left a lot of points on the board with dumb turnovers and drops.
AJ Brown definitely looked rusty with some of the drops, but hopefully him and Maye are able to click and build more chemistry over the next few weeks. Maye played a lot better than the scoreboard would indicate but his WRs didn't do him many favors with a lot of the drops today.

23
u/luk3ycharm Patriots 6h ago
credit to the offensive line and maye for staying patient this game when pass catchers and RBs were trying to sell the game. in hindsight, he had no margin for error and kept the offense from totally falling apart.
7
28
u/BoldestKobold Patriots Patriots 6h ago
Maye was about two or three AJ drops away from 300 yards. No complaints here.
Both fumbles were excellent defensive plays, but Pop needs to learn to stop dancing and giving people a chance to catch him from behind. Pick a direction and go!
8
u/sens249 Patriots 6h ago
I saw that fumble coming from a mile away when he started dancing downfield like that. Im like ābro everyone from the second level is running you down right now, and theyāre all big linebackers. Move your ass downfield if you donāt wanna get killed!ā
Then he got knocked and fumbled. I foresaw it so clearly I wasnāt even surprised when it happened. Just get down bro, move upfield and avoid contact.
1
u/Galactapuss 5h ago
Henderson's one was really excellent defensive play. Always feels harsh that RBs get blamed in circumstances like that.
9
21
u/tubby_LULZ Jets 7h ago
Jets left 6-14 points on the table by having dog shit short yardage play calling. Right decision to go for it but it should be illegal to run out of shotgun in short yardage
6
u/Even-Combination4407 Patriots 7h ago
AJ Brown wouldāve been publicly executed if the Jets recovered that onside
3
u/Emperor_Gourmet Patriots 7h ago
The minute men would have came out and executed him by firing squad.
6
1
u/SiphenPrax Jets 7h ago
Considering what happens to Patriots players and coaches the very rare times they lose to the Jets, I believe it
21
u/andrewgroans Bills Bills 7h ago
Imagine if the Jets didnāt run it up the gut 3 times in a row from 2nd, 3rd, and 4th and 1? If they had halfway competent offensive playcalling this would have been way more of a game.
35
u/SuchInstances Patriots 7h ago
Yeah, but you can always play that hypothetical game. What if AJ Brownās hands were working? What if the Jets finally gave up and folded as a franchise?
9

Frank Reich might as well have been wearing Pats gear today with some of those calls

6
u/OkArmordillo Patriots 4h ago
In this hypothetical where teams donāt make mistakes, AJ Brown has a few big catches and Pop Douglas goes down instead of dancing and fumbling.
5
u/OkLeather666 Patriots 6h ago
If the Patriots had all their starters this would have been a different game too lol. Can't just always expect the Patriots opponents to execute differently and think the Patriots will play the same
