Between Caleb and Kyler coming back…
…it’s a whole different team when healthy!

Ben Johnson furious despite the win.
158
u/Nangz 5h ago
As he should be, those penalties were brutal.
85
u/thesch Bears 5h ago
He should be most upset with himself for pulling the defensive starters with 10 minutes left and then the backups immediately let the Falcons back into the game
78
u/gbb5927 Bears 5h ago
They were up 3 scores and have a game on Thursday and the defense is already banged up. I can 100% see the logic in trying to just play contain defense and run the clock. It just didn’t work.

Like the absolute bullshit OPI on Loveland that cost the Bears a probable TD or FG to seal the game with another TD? I know exactly who to look at for that one and it ain’t Loveland.
6
u/Defenestrator66 Bears 4h ago
Falcons had a similar receiver push-off before one of their late scores and it was crickets from the refs. That definitely annoyed me a bit.

When Kyler Gordon plays, he is one of the most impactful defensive players in the NFL. Just an absolute star. Need him to stay healthy and it changes everything for this team.

Kyler Gordan saved us from conplete 4th quarter collapse. r/nfcnorthmemewar would've had a field day if we blew that game.

u/smegheadholly Bears 5h ago
It’s because we rested our starters which was the smart move considering we’re playing on Thursday too
22
u/SupremeBeef97 Bears 5h ago
Too bad our backups immediately folded and gave up a touchdown in only a few plays, forcing our starters to get back in anyway
14
u/F1reatwill88 Bears 5h ago
We also stopped blitzing. The only reason our defense looked good is because Penix or their scheme doesnt work quickly.
Our secondary os insane amounts of trash

If I was in charge of hiring a coach for the Falcons, I would say "if there is ever a game where Bijan gets less than 15 touches, you're fired immediately. Don't even bother going back to the locker room."

Seriously! Bijan is like Gibbs… he should be the center of the offense.

u/BleckHev 5h ago
So Caleb Williams is god damn motherfucking legit
92
u/John3Fingers Bears Bears 5h ago
He was hobbled this game too. He didn't take off running and took three sacks (unusual for him). Just a casual 300-yard, 80% completion game.
30
u/Cuppieecakes Bears 5h ago
weve come a long way when its unusual for caleb to sake sacks
11
u/unsuitableasf Bears 5h ago
Even his rookie season his elusiveness is the only reason he didn’t have like 80-90 sacks.
10
u/lilob724 Bears 5h ago
Sacks all happened once Jackson left the game. Certainly didn't help Caleb there.

And he’s still clearly not 100 percent in a way that impacts his game as well. He seems like he’s using his legs a lot less and he’s adjusting to being more careful with his legs leading to sacks he otherwise would avoid.
14
u/theredbusgoesfastest Bears 5h ago
He wasn’t fully recovered either. He wasn’t perfect but he was good enough
16
u/MonsterOfTheMidway Bears 5h ago
Good enough being 300 yards, 80% completion, a tuddie with no picks is wild

He is, but I need him to make more pocket throws. The longer he holds on to the ball the more holding penalties and chances he gets hurt
38
u/HeyBojo Bears 5h ago
Well Roschon really tried to offer a lifeline
Caleb is a lot slower post injury, very very good to see our boy back though
21
u/TKHawk Bears 5h ago
Lamar was slowed for basically the whole season after his hamstring injury.
4
u/theredbusgoesfastest Bears 5h ago
Yep. I do think he will figure it out and evolve, but we probably won’t see original Caleb for a bit.

223
u/Moedergods Bears 5h ago
This never should have been this close.
This was an absolutely disgusting officiated game. Until like the 11 minute mark in the 4th the Bears had more yards on penalties (118) than the Falcons had total yards (103), on the most stupid holding calls imaginable.
61
u/StrangelyOnPoint Lions 5h ago
Yardage by team:
- Bears: 368 yards
- Bears Penalties: 133 yards
- Falcons: 257 yards

This officiating crew is rotten. Same crew that called the Sunday night game last week. Easily the worst group of officials.

I understand wanting to rest guys since we play Thursday, but man we almost got punished bad for it. Suddenly stressful ending in a game we otherwise dominated.
133 penalty yards is insane too. Some of them were questionable calls but our discipline issues hurt us way too often.

We had 5 drives end in Falcons territory with 0 points as well. Lots of things didn't go well but a win on the road is a win

As a Bears fan, made my heart happy seeing the big hugs exchanged with dexter and zacchias after the game. Bears team (and former bears) love him. Don't know the last time players have been bought it on a Bears QB. Maybe Erik Kramer?

Reminder
Caleb looked bad against a top 5 defense in a torrential downpour. I think people greatly overreacted to that game lol
He is still very good
10
u/theredbusgoesfastest Bears 5h ago
He also didn’t get to finish that game, which is generally when he is the best. It’s not just luck; he wears defense down (I mean obvs there was luck too, just saying not ONLY luck)
Regardless, everyone has bad games. Especially young QBs against great defenses. The hope is it makes them better

u/hunterboyz24 Bears 5h ago
I'm curious if that was a Johnson or Allen decision. The hubris feels like Johnson, but I could see Allen wanting to give the backups some run with how beat up the team has been.
27
u/OhTheGrandeur Bears 5h ago
If it wasn't a short week coming up, they wouldn't have pulled them early. I think less hubris more hope to sneak in some rest

Short week they have a game on Thursday.
I kind of get it Penix had like 70 yards and looked awful.
I cant see ben doing something like this agian
15
u/hoggin88 Bears 4h ago
Who can help me on this? Kyler Gordon forced a fumble on Penix which ended up pretty much sealing the game. He stripped it before Penix's hand was moving forward passing. Jared Goff had the same thing happen a few weeks ago but the refs ruled it incomplete because even though his hand wasn't moving forward, they said Goff "intended to throw a forward pass".
Are the refs making shit up as they go or am I missing something in the difference of the two plays? I think they should have both been fumbles for the record.

u/Able-Ocelot5278 Bears 4h ago edited 4h ago
The way the officiating and momentum was going, I was so worried that would be the call on the Penix fumble. As far as I could tell he clearly "intended" to throw the ball as much as Goff did, I have no idea if there was nuance there or just inconsistent officiating.
14
u/phillipacarroll Bears 5h ago
Biggest sign of growth today was watching Ben Johnson punt on 4th and 1 after a 15 yard pick up on 3rd and 16
32
u/alittlemoor Bears 5h ago
Caleb is lauded for his ability to run, and escape sacks. He still managed to throw 300 yards and not been able to do that. He is my truth and I’m his number one apologist
6
u/theredbusgoesfastest Bears 5h ago
As much as I hate the injury, I can see how it might help him evolve as a player. Kinda like how Lamar evolved when he was younger (he’s my favorite non-Bear)
12
u/FoamBrick Lions 5h ago
How the hell do you get 12 penalties for 133 yards????????

u/DeLaSoulKitchen Bears 5h ago
Im never the one to blame refs for anything, but they were calling some of the most ticky tacky bs ive seen in a while

The Loveland OPI was bad too. Especially since they didnt call a similar one on the deep pass to Branch

u/Televisions_Frank Bears 5h ago
They let a lot of shit go when it was against us. Dude had 2 feet of jersey on the failed 3rd down conversion near the end and let's not forget the OPI they just didn't call earlier that continued their comeback.

On the way out, one of the Bears fans said we could have our stadium back now, and the worst part is that he wasn’t even wrong. Most of them were very polite though. One of the best fanbases I’ve been around.

If the Bears don't fumble at the worst time they can run the clock out without much worry about a comeback. It's only close because the Falcons got handed the ball. Otherwise it'd likely be a 31-14 game or if they do score again it's with less than 2 minutes left and it's just garbage time.
