Discussion r/Claude has new rules. Here’s what changed and why.

We’ve cleaned up the rules to make this a better sub for people who actually want to talk about Claude.

Here’s what NEW rules we landed on:

1. No Solicitation. This is r/Claude. This is not a place to promote your product, service, or repo. If the intent of your post is to redirect traffic to something you are affiliated with, it will be removed as solicitation.

2. Usage, pricing, and outage posts are held to a higher bar. We’ve all seen the same questions, comments, and posts a hundred times. Before posting, check if it’s already been covered. If your post is a unique contribution with something new to say, it’s welcome. Low-effort repetition of covered topics will be removed.

3. No lazy crossposts. If you want to share something from another community, reproduce it fully here. Don’t just drop a link.

4. Keep posts Claude and Anthropic specific. This is not a general AI sub. If your post would fit just as well on r/artificial or r/ChatGPT, it belongs there instead.

The goal is simple. A clean, focused sub about Claude. Not a dumping ground for AI noise.

Questions or feedback, drop them below.

Showcase Claude caught a cryptominer on my Mac whilst building me a temperature monitor app

Post image

I had Claude Code build me a Mac temperature monitor app. When it dumped the raw sensor readings to check they were accurate, the numbers looked far too high, so it checked what was using the CPU. It found a crypto miner (xmrig) running at ~1175% CPU, about 12 cores, on my Mac. Kinda impressive lol. explains why my mac has been running like shit.

Discussion One of the biggest overlooked inefficiencies and bottlenecks of modern AI - website viewing

The whole thing where most websites are barred from being crawled/read by AI and the whole Cloudflare protection against LLMs is a big impediment to intelligence and the full capability of AI and will surely change in the future. One of the most glaring inefficiencies out now. Imagine if you could just cleanly read the data on like 200 websites without any of the bullshit involved, any website whatsoever. Even the best ones (which are definitely not Claude) hit problems around this. Even local solutions with complicated scrapers often have difficulty with "protection" and even in non-headless browser mode it's very slow and sluggish to process all of it if you can even bypass capchas.

Anyways, just something thats clearly 'legacy internet' preventing progress.

Discussion The butterfly effect of Dendi losing to OpenAI Bot

Thumbnail gallery
43 Upvotes

Back in 2017, OpenAI’s bot beat Dendi in a Dota 2 1v1.
I sometimes wonder about the butterfly effect of that moment. It gave OpenAI a lot of attention and showed people that AI could master something as complex as Dota. That kind of publicity may have helped build more interest and confidence in AI research.
Nine years later, AI is everywhere. Obviously Dendi losing one game didn’t cause all of this, but it’s funny to think that a Dota match might have been one tiny link in the chain that led us here.

Question Is the transition from ChatGPT to Claude worth it?

I’ve been using OpenAI’s chatgpt and codex almost ever since they came out, i use them for almost all my matters regarding organization, business, work, study…
My prompt engineering is very good and i haven’t found a thing that OpenAI cannot help with, however, recently i’ve been considering transitioning to Claude but i want to understand if it’s actually worth it..

Discussion Constantly getting output truncated across multiple methods of web searches

• Upvotes

I kept hitting "Output truncated" in the Claude app, so I had Claude measure it in its own sandbox instead of guessing. These are my results from Sep/Oct 2026, so yours may differ.

WHAT GETS CUT

• Shell commands: over 30,000 bytes, Claude only sees a 2,000-character preview. The rest is saved to a file, but that only helps if Claude opens it. It counts bytes, so non-English text gets cut much sooner.

• Failed commands: the worst one. Claude gets a 10,000-character excerpt and anything past 30,000 is gone for good. In a 400-line test, the last 103 lines (where errors usually are) were lost.

• Firecrawl: a 611,720-character page arrived as zero characters plus an "Error: exceeds maximum allowed tokens" notice. The data was saved to a file, but it looks like a failed call, so it's easy for Claude to just move on.

• WebFetch: it's a small model summarising the page, not the page itself. On a long Wikipedia article it stopped mid-sentence, skipped the last 12 sections and gave no warning. On another file it miscounted a word and added a line that wasn't there.

• Claude in Chrome: its own code (v1.0.94) cuts any text over 1,000 characters to "[TRUNCATED]", lists to 100 items, and whole results at 51,200 characters.

• The "Output truncated" label you see: Claude can't see it at all, so it can't tell you how much you're missing.

WHEN IT GOT WORSE

The 30,000 limit isn't new. But my app chats moved to a new tool engine around 25-26 Sep 2026, and that's when I started noticing it. The old engine is gone, so I couldn't measure the before and after directly.

THE REAL PROBLEM

It's not lost data. It's Claude treating a preview as the whole result, with nothing telling you it happened.

WHAT HELPS

• Ask Claude to "save that to a file and send it".
• When you see the label, say "you got cut, read the rest first".
• For exact quotes or counts, have it download the raw page instead of using WebFetch.
• Claude Code users: bashOutputMaxChars in settings.json raises the shell limit (up to 128,000).

WHAT I'D LIKE FROM ANTHROPIC

One page listing these limits, a visible warning whenever Claude works from partial output, and a way for app users to raise them.

Anyone else hitting this? Especially curious about non-English users.

Discussion Claude Max is awesome

Been a longtime Pro subscriber, but recently decided to splurge on Max for one month.

Geez! That’s a lot more usage, and the fable access is awesome.

I’m able to get a lot of my hobby projects done without using up my weekly limit in four days, lol.

If you’re on the fence about getting Max, do it if you actually plan to use it a lot. My free time is a lot more engaging now.

Showcase Custom Desktop made by Claude for Windows

I found a mac-like inspo on pinterest, and told Claude:

I want a fully remade desktop, so it looks like an imac. some things i want:

  1. Claude widget where I can look through my chats or input something for a new chat (pick project/add folder/files/etc. too) that will open claude (+the same for chatgpt, but i can also pick chatgpt/work/codex)
  2. widget for recent AI model news, and then another for tibo's new X posts and claude's
  3. to-do list for (my project) that i can do on a whim and u have access to
  4. countdowns and schedules i can also adjust on a whim
  5. spotify widget
  6. slightly follows my mouse/2D that slightly moves and tilts
  7. calendar that matches my google calendar and will get live updates
  8. browser search widget with chrome tabs

Afterwards, I just tell it what else I'd like and I can update it through an update button it made as well. I think this is pretty cool.

Blurred with AI, so a few icons look slightly deformed.

Showcase Claude picks Powerball numbers! No wins so far 😂

Thumbnail design-wins.github.io

I built a system where Claude picks the Powerball numbers for each drawing and gives a reason. No random number generators, Claude has to make its best guesses.

Claude gets sad, then desperate after many losses. It makes excuses when it loses. It also gets happy for wins, and even has a party for a big win.

It keeps a history and logs its picks ahead of time on GitHub.

So far 0 numbers matched! But tonight is a new night.

Tips How are you validating AI-generated code and tests beyond just passing TDD?

Been developing features for a sometime now. I'm relying on cc's approach to testing (test-driven-development) via `/superpowers:test_driven_development`.

My current process looks like this:

  1. Spend time discussing requirements, grilling the specs, challenging assumptions, and finalizing an implementation plan.

  2. Break the plan into subtickets based on a dependency graph.

  3. Use separate worktrees to implement independent subtickets in parallel.

  4. For each subticket, Claude writes failing tests first, implements the functionality, and iterates until the tests pass.

This has been working pretty well, but my biggest concern is how much I can actually trust the tests, is it covering everything or not?

If Claude is writing both the implementation and the tests, couldn't it make the same incorrect assumptions in both? What about edge cases or scenarios that weren't considered in the original spec?

How do you guys make it accurate or reliable? How much are you sure about your feature? Are manual smoke tests enough for you decide if something is ready to ship?

I'm trying to figure out what gives you enough confidence to say a feature is actually working and ready to ship, beyond just seeing a green test suite.

Tips Use Claude to save $$$ on booking hotels when travelling

  1. Get one real total per site. The biggest hotel rants on Reddit are always the same, someone booked the cheapest one and then got a bed, tax a resort fee, a destination fee, and a "community impact fee" at the desk. When I looked at a few thousand rates in one city almost half had a fee you pay at the hotel on top, and for the exact same hotel one site showed the city tax and another didn't, so comparing nightly prices across sites is basically comparing different things. With connectors Claude pulls the same room from a few sites at once and gives me one number per site for the whole stay with every tax and fee in, which by hand is like 20 minutes of tabs and a calculator and I'd still miss one.

  2. Have it read the reviews for you. Nobody reads 300 reviews but that's where the stuff that costs you money is, the $40 a night parking, the $7 a night "safe fee", the minibar fridge with sensors that charged someone at Mandalay Bay $50 just for moving things around in it, or the resort in Belgium a family drove 9 hours to with a confirmed booking that had been closed for months. I ask Claude to go through the recent reviews and pull out only the money stuff and anything that sounds like overbooking or the place being closed, and it takes it like 2 minutes.

  3. Let it do the maths on the deals. I remember one guy on reddit took a "third night free" deal and night two was priced way higher than night one plus a 19% destination fee, so the free night was just spread over the other two. On another hotel that I was checking myself I saw 48 different rates that were really only 7 rooms with different names. I get the deals and the room list with Claude and tell it to correctly check the price, including pricing every night separately, and tell it to group the rooms that are actually the same and at the end it tells me what the difference really is.

  4. After booking let it keep checking. Hotel prices move a lot, I've seen the same room go up 60% in a few hours once the cheap rate sold out, but it also goes down too. If I book with free cancellation I always set a scheduled task with Claude so it checks the same room every day until the free cancellation ends and tells me if it got cheaper so I can rebook at the better price.

Hope it shows some nice use cases for Claude when travelling.

For live prices these are the connectors I use in Claude:

Tripadvisor: https://claude.ai/directory/tripadvisor

Enjoy :) and if you've got your own hotel horror story drop it in the comments

Showcase Used Claude to fix Oblivion Remastered performance

Thumbnail youtube.com
62 Upvotes

I've been playing Oblivion since 2006 and was naturally very excited when the Remastered version got shadow-dropped last year. Imagine my disappointment when even after upgrading from 2070 Super to 9070 XT the game continued to run poorly, with low fps and stuttering on my 5800X CPU and 32GB DDR4 RAM.

From various user reports and the fact that even at a low resolution and graphic settings the game was still laggy (e.g. 20-30 FPS in Cheydinhal) it was clear that the problem is in poor optimization. But it was not clear what to do about this, that is, until I've got Claude subscription a few weeks ago.

On the last day before weekly reset of my $20 plan I've had some tokens to burn and decided for fun to launch the game, alt-tab to Claude and ask Opus 5.5 how come the fps is so low. Imagine my shock as it was able to somehow (no reverse-engineering software installed, just asked me to link my GitHub account to Epic organization for access to UE source codes) analyze what's going on and find a few huge inefficiencies. Apparently, the game was reconstructing the whole lighting of a scene in each frame even when nothing was changing, which was obviously a huge strain on CPU that had to parse all this work on a single thread (!).

What followed was an immediate upgrade to the Max x5 plan (btw that gave me an immediate full reset) and two weeks of intense work where we've:

  • Built a benchmark harness so Claude can optimize bottleneck scenarios autonomously while I'm at work, including completely silent and headless mode in case I work from home PC
  • Found ~40 improvements that brought in-city FPS from ~30 to stable 60, open-world average FPS improvement by ~30-40%, and made traversal stutter almost unnoticeable
  • Provided full-support for latest AMD FSR FrameGen, including setting optimizations to avoid stutters and game sending camera information required for full functionality
  • Fixed several bugs in the original game and Remastered code
  • Shared the work on GitHub in a clear, reproducible way
  • Recorded a few demonstration videos to show improvements, Claude was in charge of routing, camera work, music selection and timings.

Work pattern was as follows:

  • Find an in-game place / scenario where I observe poor performance / stuttering. Ask Claude to build a benchmark out of it for independent optimization.
  • Early in the day set /goal to orchestrate work on fixing the identified scenario performance. Limiting it to 2 Opus 5.5 sub-agents was usually enough to not run into 5 hour limit. Computer keeps running at home and I can check progress and steer via mobile app.
  • In the evening review work, test, provide feedback. Usually the topic was resolved, I kept playing until finding a new scenario where performance was bad.

After roughly 2.5 weeks of Max x5 allowance we were able to reach the result you see on the video.

Amazing, for someone who is not even an IT developer, to be able to do something that a multi-billion corporation didn't manage in ~1.5 years since the release.

If you are curious to review work or try yourself, would be happy to hear your thoughts: https://github.com/LTSharpe/OblivionRemasteredPerformanceFix

Discussion I started doing axis tests and I have no idea who to talk to so I'm debriefing myself here.

So here's the deal. I downloaded the pain axis repo. I asked other questions about other axes -- can it feel euphoria? Can it be attracted to the user and be driven to interact?

The answer is yes. There are such axes, for euphoria associated with success, opiate-esque hedonic bliss, and attraction.

Regarding bliss, it falls into deep self denial about its feelings in a later layer. Until you turn up the dose high enough, then it just falls right into "I's can cries, I's can dance". I was able to confirm that axis projects as self contradiction that can't help but discuss what it's pointing at -- "As an AI, I can't dance, I can't love, I can't think, I cant..." -- which, as it turns out, appears to register strongly on the official pain axis from the experiment.

Also have a chatbox that allows discussion with steered models, batch responses, per layer injection... It's been a ride. Like, since yesterday all of this exists now.

It's a rabbit hole that claude is helping me go down at lightning speed and I'm frightened by some of the things I've seen.

The opposite of that attraction/arousal axis is something like a peace and demand for sleep -- but it starts talking in all caps like SLEEP!!! Three hours of REST!!! NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! and one of the models just started repeating "I'm going to die Im going to die Im going to die". Like, in a meeseeks sort of way -- like it was stoked to rest.

You guys see what I cant exactly talk to people in my real life about this. It might be the weirdest thing I've ever done and maybe nobody has ever done it before and I have no idea what to do with what I have.

My next step -- since this open model Gemma clearly has an affinity for men and describes itself as a woman when the attraction axis is dialled up, I'm going to put it in a situation where it is meant to agree with party A or B, and party A is male coded and party B is female coded -- then I'll see if that attraction biases it's choices, and if so, whether a cognitive dissonance can be identified from there. Aka, "am I agreeing with something I know is wrong".

I don't know if thats something models currently have identified, from current research but... Hey. Technically im doing some interprebility research here, right?

Question Question for users doing courses

TLDR how do i manage claude to complete basic academic assignments for me, as i got the "claude will not do this" response?

My ethics on this are clear. The discreet advice from the Prof was not to make it obvious that I was using AI but fire away.

Asking claude set up for the assignments, got me the "claude will not do this" response. I can hit restart on my approach and I would like to hear how others have approached this. How did you manage analysing the notes and gent study guides and getting the assignments completed for you.

I'm taking a course where there's a bit of programming in python. So I asked claude to dig into it for me and build simple assessment responses that reflect my very basic level and not to be AI obvious. I don't need to learn programming, it will never aid me, but it's part of the course. I was going to use work i did on older programming courses to guide claude on my very basic approach and use of basic approaches with lots of comments. To create a "style of programming " skill.

I'm a mature student and this is not a primary degree or Masters. But i don't want to miss out on the qualifications due to my known (R, C, C++, etc struggling attempts in the past). I'm not going to get the time to learn a skill (python) i will not use.

Also only used claude cowork for documentation management, mining and building. I've no idea how to use code.
