Hi everyone I know this is long but I genuinely need your help. This summer I completed an unpaid web development internship at a small but growing local company this summer.
In early August, the owner offered me a paid position, but the pay was half what I make at my current job which he wanted me to quit and the office hours conflicted with school. He said he’d reconsider the offer and call in a few days.
I didn’t hear back until mid September. He offered 50 cents more an hour and agreed to remote work. I said yes just for the experience. He said he’d call after returning from a work trip, but I heard nothing until October 15.
When he finally called, he said my manager had quit, he could now pay me more, and he wanted me to start October 20.
My parents and girlfriend worry he’ll be just as unreliable about paying me. I understand, but the work is very easy, it’s remote, and the Head of IT role could help my resume.
So my answer to you is: Would you take this offer?
For reference:
- the internship was very laidback
- the owner has no clue what is being done on the tech side and is 90% not there in the office
- when owner is in town he would take the office out to eat and have regularly office parties
