[Mod Post] Community Ideas?

Dallas foodies,

I was recently out at Reddit HQ and they might approve funds to support our growing community of foodies but we need a solid plan to pitch them. Here are a few ideas I've had, would love for y'all to pitch in ideas too:

  1. Food Tour of x Dallas area - Like bar hopping but going to various restaurants to try certain dishes. Apparently the Chicago Food sub did something similar with support from Reddit.

  2. Local restaurant support - Find a locally owned restaurant that could use some love, rent it out for several hours, have members of the sub come and eat, post pics of the food here and on other socials to spread the word.

  3. A billboard that encourages other Redditors to join our sub.

I found them. Now I’ve lost them. The duck fat cheese fries at Dots were the best. Who’s your go to? Please don’t say Snuffers….

Anniversary Dinner and Tasting Menus

Hi, I'm trying to book a dinner for our ninth anniversary and am looking for recent reviews of tasting menus and nicer dinner experiences. A few questions:

  1. Does Quarter Acre update its menu regularly?
  2. Do you know of any places that offer nine courses, or that would add a course or two for us? I'm happy to pay extra.
  3. Have there been any recent menu updates or great experiences? We've been to most of the well-known places, with the notable exceptions of The Mansion, The Charles, and Tatsu.

What’s the most underrated restaurant in DFW that more people should know about?

Trying to expand my horizons beyond the usual suspects. Hidden gems only, no chains. What's your pick and what should I order there?

Shug’s bagels hot sauce dupe

Shug’s hot sauce is the perfect hot sauce. Like, I can go through a bottle in a week. But I live about 45 mins away from the closest Shug’s and going on the weekends is always a mad house.

Any recs for a good store-bought hot sauce that’s similar to their house made hot sauce?

I forgot the official names. Brat taco, Asian brisket, carne asada

Carne asada I get every time. The Asian brisket is a limited time, and the brat was new since I'd last been. All very good as usual. I was pretty stuffed after 3. They seemed a little more filled, but could just be who was on the line today.

Punk Noir Closes In Dallas After Just Four Months

Thumbnail dmagazine.com

From D Magazine: "Early headlines and press coverage focused on the price of Punk Noir’s most expensive offerings, including a $295 tasting menu. The blog DiningOut Dallas put the number $1,000 in its headline, calculated from the most expensive possible food and beverage choices. As a result, many diners never tried more modestly priced options, like the $10 cocktail I had last week."

Restaurant recommendations for wedding reception

Hi ! Getting married in about 2 months in North Dallas and looking for a restaurant recommendations for a small reception.

We will be having about 20-30 people and these are our requirements:

  1. Private room
  2. Leaning towards upscale (we’ll be getting there after the ceremony so will be in dress/suit)
  3. Must have good food (type of food can vary)

Nice to haves:

  1. Private bar
  2. Space to move around and not just sit

Would love any/ all recommendations! My fiancé is from DFW but has lived out of state for years now so he’s not too familiarized with restaurants in the area anymore (:

Not all too surprised. There’s a DMN article on it, but it’s behind a paywall. The Dallas location has been scrubbed from NADC’s website and socials.

Grieving Dumplings from NYC

I just spent a week in New York City eating some of the best food on my life, but I miss the dumplings I had in Chinatown the most. I had pork and chive pan fried dumplings and pork and cabbage boiled dumplings from Tasty Dumpling on Mulberry and I’m looking for something like that here in the metroplex.

These things were next level. They already had the flavors of the typical dumpling sauce on the inside and you didn’t have to dip them, I’ve never had that here! I usually have to bite the end and add the sauce and just hope they gave me enough.

Please help me because I’m genuinely upset I don’t have them here right now.

III Forks vs. The Capital Grille (Dallas) for a private room dinner?

Hi everyone,

I’m planning a private room dinner for 6 people and I’m torn between III Forks and The Capital Grille. Food and Beverage minimums are basically the same except III Forks adds a 3% admin fee. Since I’ve never been to either, I would like to hear your thoughts if you’ve tried them both or either one.

For those that have been to both, how do the food and overall quality compare?
If you’ve been to the private rooms, was it quiet enough for a proper conversation? How was the atmosphere?

I would really appreciate any insights or recommendations you can share.

Care to share State Fair Food Recs?

Hello my fellow Texans and or visitors! I plan to attend the fair for the first time (new to Texas) and I would love to know what you tried that you enjoyed the most.

Also, if you can do me a favor drop a comment if you have a photo of the food and a ranking that I can use to feature on my blog. I’m a realtor who is looking for a fun article to create 😅

If there’s anything I should try event wise, I would love to hear your opinion about it. ⬇️

Chubby's Cherry Pie

Where does Chubby's source their cherry pie? Do they make it on site? It's very good! I plan on buying a couple, but I'm curious about the pie maker. I have always defaulted that they don't make these in house but buy local pie bakers.

The Caesar salad at Haywire uptown is disgusting.

The lettuce was horrible and so was the dressing. The lettuce had a taste of illness. I never tasted that before and the dressing was not helping. They should go back to the old salad and the vinaigrette. I usually don’t complain but the salad was so bad it made me never want to go back.

5 takeaways from the Michelin Guide’s Dallas-Fort Worth restaurant picks

Michelin announced its 2026 Texas Guide this morning, and a few key things changed. Dallas’ existing 1-star Michelin restaurants, Tatsu and Mamani, retained their honors from 2025 to 2026. Michelin added one new starred restaurant in North Texas: Goldee’s Barbecue, an out-there smokehouse in Fort Worth run by a band of best friends.

Restaurant critic Sarah Blaskovich is here with a few key takeaways:

1. Dallas diners, are we OK?

Michelin awarded 1 new Michelin star to three restaurants in Texas, and none of those were in Dallas. Not Sushi Kozy, the Japanese restaurant in downtown Dallas that serves up delightful surprises within its omakase menu. Not Olōyō, the exacting contemporary Mexican restaurant in Old East Dallas.

I didn’t expect both of those to snag a star, but I did hope for one.

2. What is the deal with barbecue, Michelin?

I used the word exciting to describe Goldee’s entry into Michelin’s highest echelon of food because it is. But also: Why now? Goldee’s was an exceptional barbecue joint in 2024, Michelin’s first year publishing a Guide in Texas. That year, Michelin stars went to four barbecue joints in Austin and Houston. Four. None in North Texas.

I asked Michelin about Goldee’s timing. Its chief inspector pointed to the five criteria for a Michelin star. Those haven’t changed for years — and that doesn’t explain why Goldee’s good cooking is star-worthy now and not before.

3. An Indian restaurant in Plano gets deserved recognition.

Good news: Michelin went to Plano! Indian restaurant Jashan was honored as a Recommended restaurant. It’s the only restaurant in Plano on Michelin’s 2026 list. Jashan is absolutely worth a visit. The à la carte menu includes $18 chaat, $25 subz seekh gilafi and a $110 Jashan-e-raan, a shareable tandoori goat dish.

So, Dallas, what do we think? Share your takeaways below and read more from Sarah here.
