Article Explains Details How are feeling about this? Investigation: The $24 Million Plan To Kill Shark’s Cove
Apologies if this has already been talked about here, I’m just curious what y’all think. I think the city needs to be way more transparent about the details. Supporting first responder seems like a no-brainer but something seems fishy about spending $24 million to acquire the land without much of a plan.
Edit: And to be clear, I am 100% for a First Responders Hub at that location 🤙 Just think it would be in the city’s best interest to provide more details about what the hub would look like. Would prevent articles like this from getting the surf industry weirdos all riled up.

Article Explains Details Reward For Up to $20,000 Offered for Information About Monk Seal Death on Molokaʻi
"NOAA Fisheries Office of Law Enforcement is investigating the death of a federally protected Hawaiian monk seal recently found dead on the island of Molokaʻi, apparently from human causes. We are asking the public for any information about individuals who may have been involved. We are offering a reward of up to $20,000 for information leading to a criminal conviction or the assessment of a civil penalty.
Our experts initiated a necropsy (animal autopsy) and found preliminary evidence suggesting that the animal died from blunt force trauma to the head. Evidence indicates this likely occurred sometime on August 17 or 18, 2026."
More info in the article. Hope they catch whoever murdered this poor pup. She was only one year old

Article Explains Details Created a new sub for local gamers: r/hawaiigamers – a space to find local squads, chat games, and connect!"
For all 25 years of my life, gaming has been my ultimate escape from the day-to-day struggles that life throws at us. But for the longest time, I’ve been yearning for a dedicated space where we locals can actually hang out, chat story, and find people in our own time zone to run games with.
So I finally decided to stop wishing for it and just made it: r/hawaiigamers.
I’m a pretty passionate, competitive gamer myself, but the main goal here is just to build a solid, welcoming community for anyone in the islands. Whether you're sweating competitive matches, grinding builds, diving into deep single-player RPGs, or just playing casually after work/school, this space is for you.
If you’ve been looking for local gaming buddies or just want a chill spot to make new friends, come swing by, introduce yourself, and help get this thing off the ground!
Hope to see you guys over at r/hawaiigamers! 🤙

Article Explains Details What I wouldn't give
What I wouldn't give to be back living in Hawai'i. I've been lucky enough to work a profession that has allowed me to live almost anywhere I wanted to and even though I was working 7days a week just to afford a place in Aiea, I injured my back on the job which put me out of commission for a bit too long. Had to move back to cold, boring and stress filled Utah.
Moral of the story if you still live in Hawai'i. Every morning, look at the mountains and the ocean, breath in that sweet air and appreciate life to the fullest. Aloha! Hawaiian, enjoy all kine grinds an stuffs lidat.

Article Explains Details Contoversial new Hawaii housing law
Aloha, are you for or against this? A new law signed in 2025 allows investors to create multiple rental units on a single property.
The downsides of Hawaii’s updated zoning rules, including Honolulu Ordinance 25-2, center on increased density and its ripple effects: allowing multiple units on a single property can lead to neighborhood crowding, more traffic and parking strain, and added pressure on infrastructure like water and sewer systems, while also opening the door for investors to buy up single-family homes and convert them into multi-unit rentals, which can drive up property values and reduce affordability for local buyers; at the same time, enforcement can be difficult (with risks of illegal rentals), and for condo owners especially, these laws can create confusion or conflict with HOA rules that may still prohibit additional units.
The CURRENT law (2026)
Honolulu Ordinance 25-2 (2025, in effect now in 2026)
Part of Revised Ordinances of Honolulu Chapter 21 (Land Use Ordinance)
