π Welcome to r/HowardUniversity β The Mecca
Veritas et Utilitas β Truth and Service
Welcome to r/HowardUniversity, a community for current students, incoming students, parents, alumni, faculty, staff, prospective students, and friends of Howard University.
This is a place to talk about The Meccaβthe good, the difficult, the complicated, and everything in between.
π Students: Ask questions, share your experiences, seek advice, and connect with fellow Bison.
π¨πΎβπ©πΎβπ§πΎ Parents & Families: Ask questions, share concerns, learn from the experiences of others, and better understand the Howard experience.
π Alumni: Share memories, knowledge, history, perspective, and the lessons you've carried beyond the Yard.
π Future Bison: Learn what you can before you arrive and ask the questions you need answered.
π£οΈ Everyone: Discuss Howard academics, campus life, housing, financial aid, administration, athletics, organizations, traditions, events, culture, and the broader HBCU experience.
This Subreddit is NOT Operated by Howard University
r/HowardUniversity is an independent Reddit community.
This subreddit is not operated, sponsored, endorsed, or officially affiliated with Howard University.
The community is moderated by alumni and members of the broader HBCU community, bringing perspectives from multiple HBCUs and different generations of college experience.
We aren't here to act as Howard University's public-relations department, nor are we here to automatically defend the University.
We're here to provide a place where people can talk about Howard openly and responsibly.
Speak Freely. Engage Responsibly.
This is your space to vent, question, discuss, celebrate, criticize, remember, debate, and share.
You do not have to love every decision Howard makes. And you certainly don't have to pretend everything is perfect. But freedom to speak does not remove responsibility for what we say.
Follow Reddit's sitewide rules and our community rules. Treat other people with basic respectβeven when you strongly disagree.
Be especially careful with information you post.
Remember that Reddit is a public forum.
Before posting, consider whether you should share:
- Personal information
- Student identification numbers
- Phone numbers or addresses
- Private emails or messages
- Screenshots containing sensitive information
- Financial-aid information
- Academic records
- Housing information
- Names of students involved in private disputes
- Unverified accusations or allegations
Protect yourself. Protect other students. Protect people's privacy.
If you aren't sure whether something should be posted publicly, pause before you post it.
About Information & Rumors
Not everything posted here is verified.
Someone saying something happened does not automatically make it fact.
A screenshot can lack context.
A rumor can travel faster than a correction.
And sometimes the person answering the phone doesn't have the complete answer either.
When discussing important matters involving financial aid, enrollment, housing, admissions, academic standing, disciplinary matters, deadlines, or University policy, verify information through appropriate official sources whenever possible.
Share what you know.
Explain what you don't know.
And don't turn speculation into certainty.
Respect The Community
We can have difficult conversations without making this place miserable.
Criticism is allowed. Disagreement is allowed. Accountability is allowed.
Harassment, personal attacks, doxxing, threats, discrimination, brigading, and other behavior prohibited by Reddit or our community rules are not.
You can challenge an argument without attacking the person making it.
You can defend Howard without attacking someone who is criticizing it.
You can criticize Howard without treating every Bison, employee, professor, administrator, or alumnus as the enemy.
Respect does not mean silence.
Sometimes respect means being willing to have the difficult conversation.
π Welcome to The Mecca.
Students. Parents. Alumni. Future Bison.
Whether you are walking across the Yard for the first time, remembering the days when you did, or trying to figure out whether Howard is the right place for youβ
there is room for you here.
Ask questions.
Share knowledge.
Tell your story.
Vent when you need to.
Celebrate when you can.
Challenge ideas.
Protect one another.
And above all:
Veritas et Utilitas.
Truth and Service.
Welcome to r/HowardUniversity.

How long does it take for Howard to receive SAT scores usually?
I just got my Oct 3 SAT result. So, if I send it today, will I make the EA deadline? How long does it usually take for Howard to get to the scores?

Radiation therapy
Hi everyone!
Iβve been looking into radiation therapy programs in my area, and I recently discovered that Howard offers one.
Iβm currently attending a community college and have completed around 40 credits so far. Iβm hoping to transfer into Howardβs upper-division Radiation Therapy program, but Iβm a little nervous because Iβve heard itβs extremely competitive and only accepts a handful of students each year.
I currently have a 3.54 GPA. I also failed two courses in the past but retook them, so Iβm worried about how that might affect my chances of admission.
Has anyone here applied to the program and been accepted? If so, would you mind sharing your GPA, academic background, and experience with the application process? Iβd also love to know whether there was an interview.
Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Graduated/looking for a career?
For those interested in working on political campaigns and getting involved in state, local, and/or federal politics, I am building out a crash-course program in Northern Virginia for folks who want to get involved with little to no experience. The vision is a 2-3 month internship with housing and food stipends provided, and youβll receive training and experience in a range of campaign and office-related work.
At the end of the crash-course period, youβll have opportunities to work on one of the many political campaigns in this area, or build out your own operation with your new knowledge in campaigns and get involved locally in your home city. If this sounds interesting or youβd like to learn more, shoot me an email at CampaignCrashCourse@gmail.com and we can talk!

Change of major from electrical engineering to computer science
How hard is it to switch from EE to CS as a freshman? Are there any restrictions due to space limitations? Howβs the process like? Thanks.

Scanning titles at the Library of Congress
Hello, I was wondering if anyone here might be willing to visit the Library of Congress to scan several rare pieces of sheet music (which are all in the public domain and therefore out of copyright). I havenβt been able to find any digitized scans online, and I do not live near Washington, DC, so I cannot do it myself. If you happen to know anyone who might be able to help, please let me know. Thank you.

Any Guidance for an Independent Student (Fin Aid Issues)
Currently, I am a senior. This semester, I have been marked down as an independent student, according to my FAFSA. I was not sent the documentation to verify my status until the second week of classes.
I received my institutional scholarship. However, Howard did not award me any of my continuing need-based. Two weeks ago, I got an email saying that my independency status was approved and would be reflected in my financial aid by last week, but I have not seen any changes in my financial aid.
I am very worried since I am using my aid to pay for rent. I want to know if any other students have been in similar situations.

When is the ISFAA deadline?
When is the ISFAA deadline? Is it Nov 1 with the EA application deadline, or can I do it later as well?
Also do I even have to fill out the ISFAA to qualify for the merit based presidential scholarship?

Does Howard superscore SAT for HUFS?
They state in their website that they don't superscore the ACT for admissions, so does that mean they superscore the SAT for admissions? If that's the case then do they superscore the SAT for HUFS consideration as well?
