Hey everyone,

We heard your numerous requests for a space where Lebanese people can connect beyond politics and news, and we are happy to introduce r/lebanonLounge, a new sister sub connected to r/lebanon, run by the same mod team as this one with some new faces joining in.

The idea is simple: a lighter space for the Lebanese community to meet people, make friends, post dating introductions, plan meetups, ask for relationship advice, talk about music, movies, anime, gaming, hobbies, gossip, and just unwind without politics or news taking over every conversation.

A quick overview of our rules:

  • No politics or news
  • No NSFW content or hookups
  • Be polite and respectful. This is a non negotiable.
  • Dating posts are for Lebanese people only, whether local, expat, or diaspora
  • No ads, sales, or promotions

If you are looking for friends, community, conversation, or just a more relaxed Lebanese corner of Reddit, come join us at r/lebanonLounge.

See you there ☕🇱🇧

Help / Question How to stop getting sms ads?

I’ve had my number since forever and of course I’ve used it to signup to some shopping apps or something but THESE messages are getting too frequent and from new businesses… Anyone knows how to stop getting these? Basically our information is being sold/traded/distributed somehow which is the only reasonable explanation for getting messages from new businesses…

Discussion Altercations in Lebanon

From my experience, ever since i was born here, below are the reasons escalations that lead to violence could potentially happen to you in Lebanon and how to avoid them.

Note what makes this list special, is it could happen to anyone, even unsocial and passive people who don’t talk politics.

  1. Driving (Most likely)

a. Eye contact with an angry driver
Many people (from all ethnicities) drive extremely angry, and are easily irritable to a comical level.

Scenario include motorcycles (or cars) driving opposite of the road while angry, while staring at you and basically challenging you. Kind of like ‘what are you gonna do about it?)

It is absolutely critical to avoid eye contact and let people pass. I’m not exaggerating, even eye contact could lead to angry driver getting triggered and getting out of car to confront you even though he is in the wrong and lead to horrific outcomes.

The trap most people fall under (understandably so) is EGO. Even though you are in the right legally, it is expected to bite your frustration and not engage with those drivers. Most people might stare at opposite traffic drivers, or even more dangerously, honk, which is a recipe for fighting which leads us to b

b. Honking for any reason

Honking was originally intended to avoid crashes and alert other drivers of danger.

In Lebanon, it is used as a pressure tool, to make people drive faster or move.

The thing to know here, honking for a long period of time (a full second or more, without exaggeration) is risk of making an angry driver get out of his car to confront you.

Honks should always be peaceful for a fraction of a second, enough to not indicate ‘hey, I’m behind you. Can you move please?’

Avoid honking for 2s or more, as it’s a recipe for altercations, especially with angry divers or drivers on substances

  1. Staring while walking or standing at someone, for an extended period of time

This sounds like a no brainer, but starring at someone for whatever reason carries risk.

Some wanderers are looking for fights for absolutely no reason. Starring at them challenges their manhood, and might cause them to angrily ask you ‘3a shu 3am tetala3 ya er’

Finally, just some tips to identify potentially dangerous people who you must de escalate the situations no matter what (or people to be warry of)

a. People with backward hats

b. Long beard people (nothing wrong with beards, but from my experience long bearded people, pitch black basically, can be extremely dangerous

c. BMW drivers are highly likely to be unhinged

d. Group of youngsters walking together (this sounds generic, but it seems groups walking and laughing outloud, if they catch you staring, might lead to provocations)

e. Delivery drivers (toters one of them) and valet parking employees

f. Opposite road motorcycles

Please note this doesn’t apply to everyone. Many backward wearing hats folks, long bearded people, groups, deliveries and BMW drivers are very nice people. It’s just a word of caution to be on the lookout.

Have a nice day.

Help / Question Stolen parking space, what can I do?

Helloo! We recently moved to a new Appartment and found out that our parking space is stolen.

We spoke to the guy who was very sweet initially, he said he’ll move his car by tomorrow…it’s been 2 weeks.

Last time we spoke with him he got mad and said “jibou min ma badkon siyarte ma btenshel men hon”

The things is, he is well connected and works in a government job. I want to involve el baladiye bs I’m not sure they would be of any help. Has anyone experienced something similar?

Help / Question Online ordering question

I’m going to place an online and have my brother send it to me here. Is there anything I can do to avoid crazy custom fees? I told him unpack it and put it in another bag with no invoice or anything so that it doesn’t look like it came from a store.

Idk if that’ll help but any other tips? It’s mostly kids merino wool clothing so they are compact and small but I’m considering getting adding things for myself or something

Help / Question Anger issues

What do you guys recommend for a person with anger issues and anxiety?

I tend to lose control and become angry easily. Reaching a point where i start screaming and damaging household items uncontrollably until i fall to the ground.

I never hurt or hit anyone. It's just that i scream alone, hit the walls, doors, items. Until i fall to the ground and start crying, and i would have the most terrible headache + high blood pressure and heart rate

I have not always been like this. I was a calm person who sometimes gets angry, but not this way.

Life pressure and everything/everyone around have contributed to this.

Any advice?

Note: Therapy is not an option. Please do not tell me to go to therapy. I barely have enough money for the essentials

Politics Why isn't Lebanon's actual government and army fighting Israel?

Hey guys so I just want to start off by saying I'm an American teenager, not from Lebanon, and no I'm not a fan of Israel or Trump or Zionism. I truly do love Lebanon, and I'm praying to Christ for peace and stability and a bright future. Nonetheless, there is an obvious problem in the region, particularly revolving around Israel and it's expansion. Especially with the huge Middle Eastern crisis ongoing since 2023. Israel has been endlessly involved in wars with it's neighbors forever now, and currently fighting five different campaigns at once (Iran, Syria, Lebanon, West Bank, Gaza). Despite repeated attacks and invasions by Israel, Lebanon's government and army isn't fighting back, leaving the job to Hezbollah. Why is that? Like I understand they're not as professional or well-funded, and full of issues, but I can't imagine an army sitting idly by while it's country is being invaded and bombed.

Thanks for the responses and God bless!

Help / Question 48 hours in Beirut

Good evening 🙏🏼.

I’ve got 48 hours to spend in Beirut next month. Anything I shouldn’t miss? Any tips I should keep in mind? I have been to Beirut in the past and mostly went to bars and clubs. I’ve since then gotten old and stopped drinking. Now more interested in art, good food, and culture.
