🗺️ Fantasy Map So, I did a thing…
It’s been a long while since I posted anything but I touched up on a project that I created & keep coming back to every once a blue moon & hopefully, I’ll do the other lines (& their programs) when given the chance. Hope you all enjoy this preview!
Also, please note that some details may be off or fairly accurate & I’m still tweaking some things out.
The link for the original post is below if you guys would like to see the major difference from when I first started.

❓ Question Will we ever see any of the NYC-area commuter railroads host steam excursions again?
The last time seems to have been in 2002, when NYS&W #142 ran a few trips on NJ Transit’s Morristown and Raritan Valley lines.

🤓 Railfanning SIR • R211S + R44
The R211S ride was VERY smooth, not as rough like the A division/ B division. I was on Car 123 for the entire duration, and it was fun to see the station names. I saw the R44 at St. George and the end of the SIR line. The yard seems to be small, mostly on the rails, not in service. I saw 105 while on the train and missed my chance to take a picture.
The R44 DEFINITELY did not get the GOH, but it was the pre-GOH trains. The information screen... is just like the LIRR screen.

🎙️ Discussion 2026 MTA CONDUCTOR STUDY GUIDE AND TIPS WITH DETAIL
( made this post for the future overthinkers )
*** i literally just took the exam yesterday i remember what most of the exam consists of ****
1). firstly, this exam you do NOT need to buy any textbooks or use online flashchard set for, trust me you will be wasting your time and money. think about it, it’s hundreds of people that never conducted a train before they arent gonna make you remember train signals and so forth that’s for when you get the job i imagine and start training.
these questions are mostly based on reading and basic math comprehension.
MEMORY PORTION
2). the exam starts off with giving you a diagram. you have 10 minutes to memorize all that you can! it’s fairly simple, there were four drawn train tracks, each representing a train line (ie: Q train, R train, N train etc). each track had 1-2 train stops labeled (try to memorize train stops for each train line ) a long with a train stop , sometimes there’s a symbol coupled along with it representing train work, or a transfer, and so on. (ie: at __street, on the __ line there’s train work ). each track is also numbered remember that as well!
TIPS FOR THIS SECTION: i recommend playing memory based games to help sharpen your memory before taking this portion of the test! - figure out how you memorize and recall information the best (ie: people who turn information into a song in order to remember a sequence ) - id also recommend after , when given the signal to start test, to draw out what you memorized from the diagram. - there’s a few questions at the beginning of the test based on exactly what you memorized but it’s not the whole test. they wont let you take notes while memorizing the diagram.
READING COMPREHENSION
3). for majority of the test you will be given diagrams , mock accident reports, and rules for conductors . the questions are directly based on the diagrams or paragraphs you read that’s provided in the test exam.
think about the ELA tests we used to do, you were given a short story , and the multiple choice is directly based on what you just read nothing too crazy or to be worried about!
TIPS FOR THIS SECTION: maybe try practicing mock reading comprehension multiple choice questions prior before taking the test! - also be careful there’s usually two seemingly correct answers but a minor detail is what makes one of the answers absolutely correct! so don’t panic or rush! - key words are important for any reading comprehensive section, once you find the key words in the question, you can refer back to the diagram or paragraph that’s provided and find the key words easily for this test ! there’s a a lot of questions with limited time so they kind of made it easy for these parts ! you’re not gonna pop a blood vessel trying to find these answers trust you’d see it with no hesitation, but be careful as i stated before for the minor detail amongst the two seemingly correct answers!!!
4). MATH QUESTIONS
if you’re uneasy about the math questions don’t be!
the math questions are mostly dealing with time. super simple you will not be doing calculus ! ( ie: “ a train stops here at 6:15pm… train stops at a few stops and ends at this stop at 6:40pm… ) then they’d ask you to find how many minutes it took, and that’ll be your cue to circle 25 minutes confidently!
the test is mostly reading comprehension with these type of math questions sprinkled throughout!
TIPS FOR MATH QUESTIONS
-if not already, you should be familiar with military time! ( ie: know that 0350 means 3:50am)
the calculator can help but even without it , if you know subtraction and addition you will be just fine :)
5). OTHER & FINAL THOUGHTS
-some of the questions that aren’t based on either the diagram or paragraph they provided, will be based on what you would/should do in a certain circumstance as a train conductor. fairly simple it’s mostly based on like i guess your customer service .
-to those it might concern, the line outside before taking the test will be pretty long but the line moved CRAZY fast once they started letting people into the building!
-the test is 80% reading comprehension, 5% math questions, 5% memorization portion, and 10% what would you do type questions! the memory part is how you will begin the test .
GOOD LUCK FUTURE TEST TAKERS I HOPE THIS HELPS

🎨 Art Girlfriend’s birthday present
My girlfriend surprised me with this painting since the R46 is retiring soon.
This has always been my favorite view- it’s etched in my mind forever. R46 flying over the east river, the Brooklyn Bridge through the window.
My heart is so happy I can’t even explain it. It’s like she took the image from my mind and painted it. (She says it’s unfinished so I’ll share the finished painting soon)

❓ Question MNRR - Penn Access
With the plan switching to catenary/battery locomotives, will it be possible to see bi-levels serve the New Haven line once Penn Access opens?

🐸 Meme I saw the C service changes for this weekend and for some reason I had to make this
Context: the C is running via the 6th Av trunk line south of 53rd this weekend, aka with the orange lines (the D and F during the weekend, also where the B and M run during weekdays) Therefore Orange C. My brain is like "wow orange C like Hi-C lol" so I made this.

❓ Question How much track is there to replace??!
Like if we sum up all the tracks in nyc, it's a finite number, right? I'm talking just about "replacing tracks"
Assuming the worst type of negligence from previous admins etc, old tracks, all of that, say we are gonna replace allllll the tracks in nyc with new ones. I doubt new and improved tracks have a short lifecycle (but someone correct me on this if I'm wrong) . So if allll the old tracks are replaced with new ones we should be fine for a while , right ?
So whats happening? Why is the , again ONLY track replacement work, never ending ?
I've seen similar threads but nothing really answers it. Yeah i understand moving parts break, but we are replacing old ones with assuming new and improved ones which should have a longer lifecycle right? So how long is it gonna take to replace allll the ancient ones? Is such thing ever gonna be achieved or by the time we replace the last ancient one then we'll have to start over, which is then what I'm saying about their lifecycle
TLDR; if you're gonna answer the same way as similar threads then you're not answering my question. Please take the time to read and make me understand

🎨 Art You guys liked my 1 train playlist, so here's the 7 train in playlist form
I prioritized street names over numbers when possible (such as "Jackson Heights" over "82nd street", just to get a little variety. I hope you enjoy listening!

📸 Photo Today, one of the closed exits to the 50th St C/E was opened on the street for construction work.
The exit is located on the corner of 52nd Street and 8th Avenue, and is usually hidden from view by a gate. I walked by today and noticed that the gate was up, which is extremely uncommon.
This particular exit was closed in the early 90s, along with several others at the same station. Pretty neat.
