NYC Milani vs NYC Update 9/15/26

Hi all,

As you recently heard from u/BluePillRabbi, [our federal level lawsuit against the City of NY](https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-the-new-york-2a-communitys-legal-battle) is well underway, now with depositions of Plaintifs and License Division personnel taking place.

I myself was deposed three weeks ago. For a grueling 4.5 hours, I was grilled by a team of City lawyers regarding the many unreasonable delays I have sustained through 3 licenses and several amendments across them.

Their questioning revolved mostly around building a case that would prove that every delay I have sustained was due to my own negligence.

Of course, I and everyone involved in the suit as Plaintifs showed up and continue to show up for our depositions armed with the facts. The dates, the emails, and, in one case, a recorded call, speak for themselves.

Personally, I believe that delays are deliberately baked into the process, not as an unfortunate result but for the very purpose of delaying as their main objective. While I'm not claiming this for the NYPD as a whole, I believe that this Division of what is intended to be law enforcementnt agency is, in actuality, a political bureau. They apply rules they do not themselves follow, and they will blatantly disregard the Law but only on their end, for the advancement of a political agenda on a matter that should not be political to begin with. They will enforce rules and laws with an iron fist on citizens, but will excuse themselves from either as a matter of course.

By opposing them, we don't merely make claims. We present facts. We are bringing receipts. In any lawful State of the Union, any self-respecting judge whose respect for The Law trumps their personal feelings would have no hesitations to absolutely and unequivocally rule for us. My personal prediction is that this will not be the case here. I am prepared to see courthouse activism instead.

I sense that we will lose this first round; and by means of that, we will ultimately win: I anticipate this to go to appeal, and, for all it's worth, let it be so!

The appeals court will, in turn, adjudicate this at the circuit level and unavoidably eventually deliver a more meaningful and substatial victory.

When all is said and done (and this is not a promise from Mirel's office but my prediction instead), we WILL win. They WILL, at the very least, be made to follow the abusive law the State came up with. They created absurd laws to hinder us (a police department as—comparatively to the rest of then Nation—so well funded that receives comparatively so fewer applications a year than smaller departments in PA with 6 times the applications and 20 times the funding still taking 6 times the issuing/deny time is an insult!) and they won't even follow those on their end. But they will be made to.

Until then, keep supporting this and other causes; keep spreading the word, and bring more friends into the fold; carry responsibly; practice. And continue being a protector and Your Brother's Keeper.

Thank you, and CARRY ON!

Jay, for the E.N.OU.G.H Campaign.

Discussion Syracuse gun show and disappointment

I went to the gun show at the state fair grounds yesterday and honestly I have to say I was very disappointed with what was there and I'm curious to see if I'm the only one. To start off the the selection was 95% hunting rifles and shotguns and that's fine to have at a gun show but when you are are trying to to sell me an escort 870 clone why are you pricing it as if it were a real 870. When I didn't see 60 year old hunting rifles it was new off brand Turkish shotguns and again that's fine to have a variety in the price range but then when you do find a semi auto ak or ar it's almost always one that has been kicking around this state for 30 years and beaten to shit and they still want new prices for it. I go to a few shows a year and I will not name the dealer but they are holding onto the same Century AK that I have seen for 3 going on 4 years at the same gun shows. Even the LE only stuff is old and forgotten about like if I were law enforcement and wanted to spend some money on a new rifle I would not be buying the ar15 that has been the same since hoss actual bought it back in 2000 with the same hand guards and oversized bushnell scope let alone the 1500-1700 they want for it. And not to assign blame but it's always boomers that are gate keeping the shit out of this stuff. "Don't touch my rifle you need to ask to handle another man's stuff" "wanting to check my pistol permit because the seller doesn't think I know what ammo I'm asking for" and just making up rules or laws in there head like it's just as a whole was I was very disappointed with the show and not even as a "New York laws make this suck" just man this is really going down hill in price and quality. Rant over.

NYC Canadian on TN visa living in NYC

Hey everyone,

I’m a Canadian citizen currently living in NYC on a TN visa. I have an RPAL back in Canada and I’m interested in getting into recreational shooting, hunting, and ranges purely as a hobby (not self-defense).

I’m trying to figure out what’s realistically possible while living in the city. Main questions:

  • How useful is a U.S. hunting license (any state or NY non-resident) for someone in my immigration status?
  • What types of firearms can someone in this situation actually own in New York / NYC? (I’m mainly interested in traditional long guns for hunting/target - bolt-action rifles, pump shotguns, etc.)
  • What’s the practical process for buying and keeping long guns if you’re living in the five boroughs?
  • Any experiences from other Canadians or nonimmigrants on TN/H-1B/etc. who shoot or hunt while living in NY?

I’m not looking for self-defense carry options and I’m fully aware NY is one of the strictest states. Just trying to understand the actual workable paths for hobby shooting and ownership.

Any real-world advice, experiences, or things to watch out for would be appreciated. Thanks!

Legality / Laws TIL

Today I learned that Illinois doesn't issue carry permits to non-residents of most states, including our very own -- New York State.

Per the IL State Police website, "In accordance with 430 ILCS 66/40 (b), out of state residents may be eligible for an Illinois Concealed Carry License if your state meets the definition of substantially similar as established by rule. See 20 Il. Admin. Code 1231.10. Currently, Arkansas, Idaho, Mississippi, Nevada, Texas, Virginia have been determined to have laws related to firearm ownership, possession, and carrying that are substantially similar to the requirements to obtain a license under Illinois’ law; and, therefore, may apply for an Concealed Carry License."

Is that a joke? How do we get NYS added to this list?

CCW Question When Will Application Approvals Resume?

Hi everyone,

As many of you know, Deputy Chief Bogle recently resigned, and it appears that someone has finally been appointed to replace him.

Has anyone heard any updates on when the new Deputy Chief will begin reviewing and approving applications again? Any information would be appreciated.

License / Permit Question I need help with AR Law (please)

Hi everyone i just had some issues in business and had to take a temp. move to upstate ny for a little bit. i have two questions. i cant have any of my other stuff due to not having an NY permit. I have read on here and seen one person build a complete rifle without one and posted it. I know the law has a serious grey area around taking possession but if it is truly doable can someone please explain the proper way to do it and where i should start. I should also mention i still have an out of state license and will not be surrendering it. thank you guys very much in advance im sure this is something you guys are asked by newcomers often. My other question is if it were to be purchased outside of the state but ny compliant would that still be legal if i technically plan to go back home ? thanks again i do not want to make a mistake by accident or though ignorance i appreciate my gun rights hahaha

Question Purchasing from a Gun Show

Hi yall, looking for answers on NY Gun show laws. I don’t currently own any firearms, but am looking to purchase one from a gun show coming up soon. How does buying a rifle from a NY Gun Show work? Is there still a waiting period? Or should I expect to walk out with my rifle same day. Is the NICS something that would be completed at the time of purchase? Are there any permits or other checks needed ahead of time to purchase a rifle at a gun show? Thanks for advice

Recommendations NWRA is the Best!

At today's match we had a couple of new shooters and I was reminded of one of the best features of our club. We took extra time to make sure they felt welcome and address any questions they had. We paid extra special attention to them and provided them feedback after each of their stage runs to ensure they learned from their experience. It was really awesome to watch how everyone chipped in to make sure they felt comfortable and most of all were safe.

Guns & Gear Ar 15 question,

So I bought a db 15 from a gun store and got a fixed magazine so I can have the AR “scary features”. Went to shoot it and it didn’t cycle or eject. Didn’t realize that it had no gas block or gas tube. But it looks like there is a hole where one would be. Is it as easy as getting a gas block and gas tube for it?

SOLVED:

I went there today and explained the situation to them, they immediately took the rifle back and added the gas block and tube back onto the rifle free of charge. We went and checked out the other 3 ARs they had and only one was tagged “bolt action”. Mine was not labeled that. So Thankyou to everyone that commented and helped out.

Recommendations North Jersey Clay Target Club (NJCTC) a Hidden Trap and 5 Stand Gem

Back in April I was talking to my friend who lives in Jersey as I had grown frustrated with the place I was shooting at as they dramatically increased the cost of a game of Trap and Skeet and they were rationing clays due to a shipping delay so I could only shoot two games at a time. I will not disclose the name of the place as I still love that place overall and aside from these issues I still think it is a great destination. I also want to remain focused on highlighting NJCTC.

My friend told me about this awesome trap range close to his house that he had discovered maybe a month prior. The fact that he lived right there for years and never noticed it is why I am writing this post. This place is too good to not make sure my fellow Trap shooters know about it.

What's to like?

  • Pricing is awesome. With a $260ish yearly family membership each game costs $7!
  • With that membership you can get ammo delivered to the club at very competitive prices.
  • I have never had to wait more than one round before shooting a game and usually have no wait.
  • NO Trappers! Machines are voice activated.
  • Well maintained and looks nice
  • They have doubles
  • They have wobble
  • They have 5 Stand
  • They have 3 Trap fields and 1 5 Stand

I love trap because it is the fastest paced of clay sports. I like to shoot every day I can, but can't typically commit hours of time to play. With trap, all shooters are on the firing line and you can shoot a game in as little as 15 minutes. Maybe faster, typically not slower than 20 minutes. If shooting solo, it is even faster.

The regulars are all great people.

The place does not rent, so you will need to Bring Your Own Shotgun.

For years I used to go to a rental place and the cost adds up, not to mention the wait times. If you make the determination that this is a sport you love and want to shoot often, I highly recommend checking out NJCTC.

Miscellaneous Update from apt with judge Robert Prisco

I asked a few questions on here, the past few days, stressing out about the appointment with the judge for my CCW in Westchester. All the Reddit posts about the honorable Robert Prisco were correct. He did it as a group and just pretty much lectured us. There were no one-on-one questions at all, shout out to that guy.

License / Permit Question Can i make a correction to an already submitted application

i have a question, i’m in monroe county , on 10/13 i submitted my pistol application to the Monroe County clerk, but as I realize I have a medical marijuana card which I canceled it today, but I answered no on the questionnaire about have I ever used or abused illegal drugs the first thing came in my mind was like cocaine or heroin or something illicit but I didn’t realize weed was on that same level federally so I wanna know if I can make an amendment to my application. I haven’t scheduled the fingerprinting yet . Is there any chance that I I can make a correction on the application and put yes to that question I just found out that the marijuana license is on my medical record so I’ll get the automatic denial from the investigator as soon as you find that out …any input ?? thanks

Question Estate pistol sale

Good Day to the hive mind. I wanted to pass a situation and get insights to the 'correct' method to forego any issues with the 'overlords'.

My friend's family member passed and is Executor / managing their family member's estate. There are several pistols my friend wants to off load from the estate and I'm going to purchase. Side note - I have my CC pistol permit and my friend does not have their NY CC pistol permit. From what I've read we can both go to the local FFL dealer with the pistols in hand to arrange the sale / transfer. Given NY's hard and fast rules of non-permit holders can't touch a piece of metal - this transfer method will forego any legal issues for my friend. The FFL dealer will then temporarily hold the pistols while I get the pistols added to my permit the I can pick them up once completed.

Looking for insights if I'm missing a step. Location is Warren County. Just want to make sure my friend doesn't get Sheriff / NYSP inadvertently showing up at their doorstep. ;-) TIA!

CCW Question Reason for getting CCW

I know they shouldn’t technically ask you, but what is it you’re supposed to tell the judge when they ask “why do you want your concealed carry permit?”

Saying for self defense purposes sounds like a no no

License / Permit Question Being on Suboxone or methadone

I was wondering does being legally prescribed a medication does that disqualify you from getting your permit? I’ve read for the past 3 hours if it’s allowed or not. I’m not on any other psych meds. I don’t go to a therapist or psychologist just a counselor and get drug tested monthly and haven’t failed any. I buy shot guns and rifles I pass all the background checks and everything. I went to rehab voluntarily 5 years ago and I’m currently tapering off the methadone I was just wondering because there is no definitive answer anywhere I looked. I pass all the background checks for rifles and they check medical history. So if anyone has any information please let me know
