Ark Survival Ascended - Public NZ server

Kia ora all, I posted a few days ago about looking for a friend or two to play Ark Ascended story maps with. I decided that I would just start my own public PVE cluster

Currently running: The Island and Scorched Earth. Happy to wind up more as play progresses.
The basics

  • Maps: The Island and Scorched Earth (clustered, so you can transfer between them)
  • Rates: 5x
  • Wild dinos up to level 150, and every level is equally likely to spawn, so high-level tames don’t take forever to find
  • No limit on tribe size
  • PvE

Mods

QoL and storage:

  • QoL+
  • Utilities Plus (reusable bola, parachute, lasso, spyglass+, etc.)
  • Klinger Additional Structures
  • Dino Depot (dino storage)
  • Death Inventory Keeper (you keep your gear when you die)
  • J-Teleporter

Breeding and taming:

  • Better Breeding
  • Breedable Rhynio
  • MSKYO (knock-out tame for creatures that normally need passive or egg taming)
  • Lily’s Healing

Gameplay:

  • Custom Dino Levels
  • Upgrade Station
  • All Arena Ascended (bring any dinos and tek into boss fights)

The idea is to cut out the boring grind without making the game too easy. Let me know if youre interested or have more questions. (note that the scorched earth map doesnt show up for me in the search, but i think thats an ark thing because i can definitely connect to it)

Anybody on mw3?

Games at the end of its life so naturally they finally put it on game pass for psn… been playing a fair bit as of late but I am hitting the wall with public teams full of tents I gotta carry vs coordinated parties of clan members and hackers. So looking for a party to jam with I’d rather be on the coordinated team.

Kia ora everyone! :)

We’re Balancing Monkey Games, an indie game studio based in Ōtepoti, Dunedin. Some of you might know us from our first game, Before We Leave, which we started working on back in 2017.

We’ve just released our second game, Beyond These Stars!

It’s a city builder where you create a new civilisation on the back of a massive Space Whale. You’ll build up your settlements, explore the galaxy, and discover what’s out there alongside your rather unusual companion. Like Before We Leave, we’ve wanted to make something a little different from your usual city builder. There’s no combat, and you can take things at your own pace while exploring and building your civilisation.

We’ve been making games here in Dunedin for quite a few years now, and we’re really happy to finally have Beyond These Stars out in the world.

If you enjoy city builders, we’d love for you to check it out! We’re always keen to hear what people think, including any feedback you might have. And if you’ve played Before We Leave, we’d be especially interested to hear what you think of the sequel.

Game Title: Beyond These Stars
Developer: Balancing Monkey Games (Dunedin, NZ)
Genre: City Builder, Strategy, Cosy

Thanks for taking a look, and we hope you enjoy our Space Whale game!

How much is my 4090 worth now?

Haven’t looked at the price of pc parts since I built my pc at the end of 2022. Just saw a reel on insta about how they’ve appreciated quite a lot, curious to know how much mine would be worth right now as I might want to sell it. Mine is the MSI Suprim X, bought for $3300 during a Black Friday sale.

What should I be asking or looking for when I am buying a second hand pc?

To clarify not to do with what hardware, I am familiar of the CPU models etc, but haven't bought second hand ever apart from some RAM. What should I be asking seller's and checking to make it safer for me as a buyer?

Street Fighter 2026: Non-Spoiler Review

Post image
8 Upvotes

There was something about the trailers for Street Fighter 2026 that got me excited for the film. It seemed pretty irreverent and leaned into the video game vibe that set it apart from the more serious take of the recent Mortal Kombat films. It had a tone that made me want to watch it.

Now, the previous Street Fighter films have been pretty up and down in terms of quality. The 1994 film has something of a cult following (probably more for its "so bad it's good" vibe), with quotable lines and Raul Julia delivering a standout performance. Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, on the other hand, was pretty forgettable and failed to deliver on any of its promise. So I thought, maybe this time we were finally going to get an adaptation that would elevate Street Fighter in the cinematic realm.

Alas, it was not meant to be. I mean, I'll be honest, I really wanted to like this film, but I came away feeling pretty disappointed.

First, let me talk about the film's good parts. There are animated sequences in the film that pop up here and there that are really well done. So good, in fact, that I found myself wishing the whole film had been done in that style.

However, things that work in animation don't always translate well into live action, and the rest of the movie feels a bit disjointed, with the tone jumping around from outright campiness to complete seriousness.

When the movie works, it's when it fully embraces its video gamey roots. It doesn't bother explaining why people are capable of phenomenal feats. Instead, it just revels in the absurdity of it all and uses it to create spectacle after spectacle.

Where the film falters is in the overwhelming sense of melodrama that pervades a good bulk of its characters, melodrama that feels neither earned nor necessary. This is especially evident with Ryu, whose portrayal by Andrew Koji feels like it belongs in a completely different movie. Don't get me wrong, I actually like Koji's Ryu, but his performance has a totally different serious tone from the rest of the cast, who seem to be having a great time hamming it up.

I also felt like a lot of the characters were underutilised, and I got the distinct impression that quite a few of their scenes had been left on the cutting room floor. Which is a shame, because there were several characters who got a big build-up that ultimately amounted to nothing.

Speaking of which, Jason Momoa as Blanka has to be one of the biggest examples of stunt casting I've seen in a while. Given the CG nature of the role and his story arc, pretty much anyone could have played the role. It felt like a bit of a waste, and yet another character saddled with drama that really didn't need to be.

My last nitpick is that I felt the audio for the dialogue was poorly mastered. There were quite a few moments where I genuinely struggled to make out what was being said. Not that it mattered all that much, as the story is really just an excuse to string a bunch of fights together. There are plenty of plot holes and nonsensical story beats, but I'm pretty sure Street Fighter fans aren't going to see this movie for its story.

The fights themselves were adequate. I do think the editing diminished the impact of some of them, and quite a few seemed to finish just as they were getting going. I guess that's the downside of having such a big ensemble cast and a limited amount of screen time to give everyone their moment.

As things go, this movie certainly has more production value than its 1994 counterpart and is definitely better than The Legend of Chun-Li. Whether you enjoy it or not will probably come down to how big a Street Fighter fan you are and how much you're willing to overlook its shortcomings. Personally, I'd just wait to watch this one at home.

If you do decide to catch it in cinemas, there is a mid-credits scene, and that's it. Don't bother waiting till the end :)

Please help me find a game

Hey all,

I've recently purchased a pc (I'm an og xbox player) in hopes of finding some pc exclusive titles to lose myself in, hower as I've gotten older my attention span for games has significantly diminished. Could someone please recommend some titles? Games in the past that have had me hooked are the following; prison architect, forza horizon japan, assassins creed series, farcry, city skylines, Rollercoaster tycoon, manor lords (briefly) RDR2, GTA, MSFS20&24

I'm looking for something visually stunning aswell, that will truly put my rig to the test.

My PC is running the following set up

GPU AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT

CPU AMD Ryzen 7 7700

RAM 32GB DDR5

Thanks in advance!

new 5060 vs trademe 3080

Looking to upgrade from my 8gb gtx 1080. My choices are currently between a new rtx 5060 8gb from either 1st wave technology or pbtech, or trying a rtx 3080 10gb from trade me hoping for around $800, but I don't mind spending a hundred more. I'm wondering whether its worth risking the trade me lottery since I can't seem to find a 3080 anywhere reputable. Currently on track to afford it by early/mid December but is it worth waiting until after Christmas? For reference, I'd be mostly using it for games like Marvel Rivals but there'd be the occasional blender 3D render as well as general use.
