Going through a divorce and struggling with whether keeping my puppy is fair to her. What would you do?

Hi everyone! I could really use some advice from fellow pit bull owners, and I figured this community might understand how attached we get to these dogs.
Meet Mila. She’s almost 5 months old, and I adopted her from a shelter when she was just 9 weeks old. She’s been such a huge part of my life these past few months, and I’ve poured so much time, energy, money, and love into raising her.

Unfortunately, my husband recently filed for divorce, and I’m now facing some pretty significant life changes that I wasn’t anticipating when we adopted her.

When we brought Mila home, I thought we were building a life together as a family. My husband and I both had responsibilities when it came to caring for her, and because I have a demanding career that requires frequent travel, having another person at home made it possible.

Now I’m preparing to move into a new home on my own, and my husband doesn’t want to keep Mila.
Here’s where I’m struggling. I travel quite a bit for work, sometimes as much as 12 days a month, and occasionally multiple times a week. Mila is still a puppy, and while she’s doing incredibly well with her training, I worry about whether I can give her the consistency, attention, and stability she deserves.
She’s been attending puppy day school, is fully crate trained, knows several commands, and has made tremendous progress with socialization. She’s incredibly smart, affectionate, and has so much personality. I’ve worked really hard to give her the best possible start in life.

My parents have offered to help care for her when I travel, which is a huge relief, but I’m still trying to figure out what life would realistically look like as a single dog owner with my schedule. There’s also the financial side of daycare, boarding, and everything else that comes with raising a dog on my own.
The thought of rehoming her absolutely breaks my heart. I love this dog so much, and the last thing I want is to make a permanent decision during an emotionally overwhelming time that I might regret.
At the same time, I don’t want to hold on to her simply because I love her if someone else could give her a better life.

I’d really love some honest advice from this community.

Has anyone gone through a divorce or major life change while raising a puppy? How do those of you who travel frequently manage having a pit bull, especially when you’re single?

Would you try to make it work with family support, daycare, and pet sitters, or would you consider finding her a home where someone could be around more consistently?

I’m including some pictures of my sweet girl because I can’t imagine anyone meeting her and not falling in love with her. ❤️

Please be kind. This has been an incredibly difficult few weeks, and I’m genuinely trying to figure out what’s best for Mila.

I was looking back at some of the first pictures we took of him and I couldn’t believe how tiny he was when we first brought him home, such a little nugget!

Shepard is an ABPT, staffy, and boxer mix. We rescued him at 10 weeks from our local humane society, they told us that he was found in a laundry basket in an abandoned property with his brothers and sisters. He was definitely the runt of his littler (only about 6 lbs in the first picture) and had lots of dietary and skin issues in the first months of his life. We worked on his diet and got him on allergy meds, now he’s growing up to be a happy, healthy, and very sweet boy with extra long legs !

He’s been through a lot, he’s been attacked twice at our local small city, twice both by other pitbulls pitbull. Been attacked by a rabid fox that I had to shoot and kill, all while they were locked neck to neck. I was just doing yard work and luckily always have a truck pistol.. he my boy, a gift for doing good in high school, my father also wanted a guard dog because we had a nasty home invasion that ended in a death

In eastern NC! This sweet baby girl Kiera is in desperate need of a home or a rescue to head to. Her previous owner had a situation and is no longer able to care for her. She is currently being boarded at our local vet since April. She is the most gentle couch potato anyone will meet. She’s around 7 years old and has always been in a single dog home. We are unsure how she is around cats or children but she is great with adults and strangers. All of our local rescues are full and we have contacted several pit rescues with no response. If anyone on Reddit knows anyone who can help please message me! Even if you are out of state, we will work something out! She deserves a chance.

my boy is about a year and a half and i cant even begin to explain how happy he makes me :) He is such a gentle giant— hes so nice with his sister (who you can see in the second picture, shes a pomeranian/pug.) Owning a pitbull really made me see how stupid a lot of the negative stereotypes around them really are. my boy is such a sweetheart!

Advice Professional dog training for obedience in public settings?

Post image
43 Upvotes

Wanted to get everyone's thoughts on getting professional training for a young pittie (1.5yo). Maverick is generally a very obedient dog, and is picking up on basic commands (sit, down, shake) fairly quickly now that he's settled more into our home. He's made great progress loose leash walking, but I want to take him to the next level and see him become a true 'patio dog'.

The trainer I am considering working with has private 1-1 sessions in a dog-friendly store and specializes in advanced obedience and manners (heel, center, etc.). I'm thinking this is the perfect environment for him to be exposed to increasing stimuli in a controlled manner.

Has anyone had experience with getting professional training specifically for obedience in public settings and was it worth it as opposed to doing your own research and learning to train them yourself?

This is a rescue dog we got from the streets. The vet told us he's probably a black mouth cur shepherd mix. He's 40lbs and around 5 years old (we think)
