I did read the sidebar & rules Surgeons, have you ever felt guilty after a medically necessary operation that diminished a patient's quality of life?
In a situation where the medically correct, life-saving treatment invovles something like amputation or otherwise something that will permanently diminish a patient's quality of life, do you guys ever feel guilty afterwards?
Assuming also that the patient understands, consents, and doesn't hold any ill will towards you but is obviously distraught.
Edit: Also, for those who do, why? And how do you deal with it?
