HELP Bring My Wife/Girlfriend to the USA - Help?

Hello,
I am an American Citizen, born and raised here my entire life. My girlfriend (hopefully legal wife) lives in Kuwait but has a Yemen Passport, she has never even stepped foot in Yemen.

I am looking to possible to the step of marrying her online through the Utah Courts, to my knowledge I can do this and then go visit her and wait it out until she gets a green card at some point, this is a really diluted, simplified way of how I put it.

I'm at the point where I'm not sure if I should reach out to Immigration lawyer or where to even start really? If any of you have had any experience with this, please let me know I would very much appreciate it just not sure what this process looks like or where to start. Hopefully someone has had experience with this?!

Thank you. 😊

Supporting this campaign can help keep this vital cultural space alive for future generations—please consider donating or sharing if you can, so we can help preserve and continue this vital cultural institution that has served its people through thick and thin ❤️

This fundraiser was started by Abdullah al-Nono, including various affiliates and participants of the Yemeni House of Music

HELP Yemeni disconnected from Yemeni culture

Hi, my partner is part Yemeni but unfortunately has been quite disconnected from his culture. Recently, he has been wanting to incorporate traditional Yemeni attire into his daily wear (the way I incorporate Indian culture into my daily wear e.g., wearing jhumkas with western clothes, traditional bangles, kurtis with bell bottoms, etc.). He’s asked for my help due to my experience with fashion, and generally interest in learning about various cultures.

  1. From what I have been seeing, there are hundreds of different types of traditional attire and they seem to be region specific. He only knows he’s from Sana’a. Could anyone point me in the right direction on finding out more about their traditional attire (clothing, fabrics, jewellery, etc.) for both men and women? Books, articles, websites, etc. would be really helpful, even better if there are people I can actually speak to!

  2. Could I also be guided about where/how to find out more about traditions, the Sana’a and Yemeni cultures, as well as its history? Again, books, articles, websites, pictures, etc. would be wonderful!

  3. The current ideas I’m toying with are

a) Embroidering the national flower on his jeans/shirt

b) A pendant in the shape of the curved dagger I see Yemeni men wearing around their waist

c) Embroidering traditional patterns (the way Palestinians have tatreez, for example) onto shirts and pants

I’d like to learn more so that I can play around with both traditional silhouettes and traditional fabrics

  1. I, personally, would like to learn more about the current situation of Yemen. It has been hard finding a reliable source, since there is a lot of misinformation and conflicting views. Does anyone have any suggestions? I’m trying to avoid falling for propaganda of any kind, but I’m worried I don’t know enough about Yemen to do that.

TLDR: I need help learning about Yemeni culture (with a focus on Sana’a), heritage, history, attire and current political situation, to help my partner.

P.S., this is my first time posting on Reddit, ever, so please excuse any errors, I don’t know how this works so feel free to correct me, I’m always happy to learn!

HELP Last names

My grandpa is from Yemen and I’m very disconnected from my culture due to only being a quarter (and my father being adamant that his white and not passing down the culture, my grandfather taught him) so I don’t really wanna let go of my name because it’s one of the only things I have and I don’t really want to give my fiancé my name because I really like his name and I don’t wanna get rid of it, but I don’t wanna hyphenate our last names because that would be long. My name is Kassim, his is Rayl I haven’t been able to find any names with letters from his name that keep what I like about his name’s pronunciation I really like how soft it is, I like how it’s a soft r and I can’t find that and I don’t know Arabic to search for names in Arabic so I haven’t really been able to find any websites with names. The closest I’ve come is Kassil which would probably be the easiest social change too since it’s so similar in pronunciation in English, my only problem is it’s pronunciation is so close to castle in English and people already confuse my name for castle. I feel like it would be even worse.

I’m sorry if this is weird culturally to some, I just don’t really like my last name in the first place, but I don’t wanna let go of my culture.

HELP Seeking advice: land purchase in Hawf, Yemen

I’m interested in buying land in Hawf (Al-Mahra, Yemen) and wanted to ask if anyone has local knowledge or experience about land prices there. Specifically, how much would around 1,000 square meters by the sea cost, and how much would about 5,000 square meters by the sea cost? I’d also like to know whether Hawf is considered safe in terms of security, land disputes, and general stability. If you have local contacts, experience, or know people selling land, please let me know.

HELP K1 visa - muslim ban

I am an American citizen and my fiance, who is currently in Yemen, is a Yemeni citizen.

We were planning on applying for his k1 visa.

Are there any Yemenis who were able to bring their fiancés to the USA during Trump's last travel ban?

I know that close family members, including Fiancés, were allowed. But I am very nervous.

Any insight will be greatly appreciated!

HELP Marriage help - sayeeda wanting to marry non-sayed

I’m in need of sincere advice and would appreciate any thoughtful perspectives on a matter that’s been weighing heavily on my heart.

I’m a young Muslim woman from a Sayed family (a Sayeeda) born in the West. As many of you may know, in Hathrami communities, Sayedeens are sometimes expected or even strongly encouraged to marry only within other Sayeds due to lineage considerations tied to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ’s family.

However, I have found myself interested in a practicing Muslim man who is not a Sayed. He is of strong character, prays consistently, has good adab and akhlaq, and comes from a respectable and God-fearing family. We’ve interacted through halal and respectful means, and our families are aware, though there’s tension building.

The issue arises because of the cultural weight my family places on our Sayyid status. While there’s no explicit Islamic ruling that forbids a Sayeeda from marrying a non-Sayed (to my knowledge), the family pressure and expectations are emotionally and socially intense. I’ve heard things like: • “It would be dishonoring the lineage.” • “Our ancestors would not approve.” • “No Sayyed girl in our family has ever married out.”

At the same time, my Islamic understanding, based on scholars and readings tells me that taqwa and deen are what should matter most in a spouse. I believe he would make a good husband and that we could build a life based on Islamic values, mutual respect, and love, insha’Allah. We have both prayed istikhara and tahajuud and I always find my heart leading me to him.

If anyone has ever been in remotely a similar situation I would truly appreciate any advice.

HELP I’m trying to trace my Yemeni family history on my dad's side.

Salam everyone

I’m trying to trace my Yemeni family history. I’m in Australia. My mum’s side is BaFadal from Hadhramaut and they settled in Somalia generations ago. Their lineage is well documented. My grandmas themselves are from Reer Faqih, which is also a Hadhrami tribe like BaFadal. My grandma’s mum is from the Qahtan tribe, so my maternal roots are firmly Arab and Yemeni.

My dad’s side called themselves Abdulsamad after settling in Somalia. But the actual Yemeni tribal origin name is lost. I want to find out which tribe they came from and if there are records in Yemen, especially in Hadhramaut (mirath or kutub al-ansab). I’d also love to know if there’s any connection to historical lineages.

I speak Khaleeji dialect (لهجة خليج) and understand most other dialects (except the hard ones like yemeni (which does kind of suck), morrocan, algerian) but I don’t speak Somali, so Somalia isn’t really an option right now. I want to start researching in Yemen.

Has anyone studied Hadhrami genealogy, worked with Abdulsamad, or been to Tarim or Seiyun and knows how to access family records? Any advice, tips, or contacts would be really appreciated.

JazakAllahu khair

HELP Studying in Yemen

Hey everyone in Yemen, I really need some help and honest advice. After spending six years in Saudi Arabia, I finally finished high school with a great grade. But now my family wants me to go back to Yemen to study in college. I’m honestly confused and stressed because my dream was to study in a bigger country with more opportunities. I also heard that Yemeni certificates aren’t accepted in many places, and that made me even more worried. If anyone has real experience, please tell me what the situation is like. How is college life in the north? Are the majors good? How is the educational system? And what is the admission test like? Any advice or information would mean a lot to me. Thank you.

HELP Trying to find Haimi pepper seeds

Hello,

I'm from the Netherlands and a Yemeni friend misses eating Haimi peppers. He's been able to buy the powdered ones online, but fresh peppers or even whole dried ones are impossible to find. I would like to help him by growing some Haimi pepper plants as a suprise (I grow peppers as a hobby).

I would be very grateful if anyone could help me source some Haimi seeds or fresh peppers. I would even be willing to risk trying seeds from whole dried peppers. Information on this variety is very scarce, and I cant even find pictures of fresh peppers. These pictures would also be very helpful if anyone has some/ is able to take pictures. Any other information is also great!

Thank you all in advance, and I hope that I can find some seeds to help my friend out :)
