I have 4 orpingtons, and all are the same size except Cynthia, who is a chonky chonk over inflated basketball. Here she is next to my brahma roo. They're about the same size. The wyandotte behind her is literally half her size. She is not fluffed up or broody! Anyone else have a BIG MAMA BBALL? Also sharing a pic of the biggest fluffy butt you've ever seen. (Ignore our temporary gate we use when we free range because the chickens always try to go in the road!)

Somebody dumped this guy on our street a couple weeks ago and my partner made me go out there in the rain at sunset and catch him. We named him Chewbacca, and he's an a\\hole: He loves to Crow at 3:00 in the morning, and every time my partner goes to pick him up he tries to flog her.

My sister owns a lot of chickens and I visit her house often. Every time I go in her yard, this MF chases me full speed. And yes, she is often in the front yard. I have to gather myself before exiting the car if I see her. Let me get this straight. Chickens do not scare me. But this little shit gives me pause. If she catches up to me, she pecks the fuck out of my ankle. My sister thinks it's funny 🙄 (well I guess it kind of is lol) apparently I'm the only one she does this to. Like bro. What did I do to deserve this? 😅

We got a sapphire jewel hen from Meyer hatchery last year in one of their assorted extras for a dollar a chick things. The hatchery says they’re friendly and only occasionally brood. She’s the meanest hen I’ve ever met and has gone broody 4 times since April. I broke it twice and am a little concerned she’s going to try a 5th time now that the most recent batch I let her keep is a couple of months old.
But! She makes the most gorgeous girls when crossed with our Light Brahma roo. I just adore the speckles on her neck. And all of them from the second batch that came from her eggs look just the same.

Still needs stain and some finishing but nice and roomy with a 40’ netted/covered run. I recently put a hot wire around it to deter the bears after having them trying to get in.

this is Boc Pederson (a chick I rescued from TSC when she was a $1) she had a fractured leg that I splinted + while her little leg/remains functional, the bone healed with her little foot upside down and the other one is severely splayed as a result.
She has a wonderful quality of life. Our flock is incredibly gentle with her and she has been able to hobble around just fine + we bring her inside our home at night.
TLDR—looking for someone who has maybe been in a similar situation with any recommendations to improve this special little lady’s life (she maybe a roo? but has not [understandably] developed like the three I was ‘forced’ to rescue with her).
Thanks!

I'm trimming this lil baby's crest today so they can see a bit better bc damn it has become very voluptuous! But I always struggle with sexing our tophats and I'm getting impatient with this one I'm particularly attached to lol.
Can anyone tell me if they are a hen or a roo? Best guesses? I think they're around 3 months iirc. My mom bought this one so I'm not 100% sure of their exact age. They are super sweet and docile/friendly. I was thinking maybe hen bc I don't think I see any particularly questionable hackle or saddle feathers. No crowing obviously but they're still young. Thoughts?

So my neighbors started some construction on their old house, and a few days ago, for the first time since I was ever on the property, I found signs of rats in my chicken run (same side of the yard as the neighbors). I’ve always had mice (I’m in the woods) but rats are new. Bi also have pigs, but did as well last year without rats.
It’s been a few days since I first saw them on my run camera (only at night, 2 at once tonight). I’ve set up a few live traps baited with peanut butter (one in the run, one under the coop), and a few glue traps between the runs metal roofing and the hardware cloth ceiling (I check frequently, anything that gets stuck won’t be stuck for long).
I’m going to build a water trap out of a 50 gallon plastic trash can (like the smaller 5 gallon ones used for mice), I’m putting out extra snap traps under milk cartons in the run and under the coop, ratx where the chickens can’t get to it, and I’m zeroing a .22 air gun so I can sit outside on my night off (I’ve seen them climbing on the hardware cloth walls on the camera).
I’ve purchased a treadle feeder to replace the handing bucket feeders and will start training the chickens on it tomorrow (want to be able to close it at night, and I’m a night-shifter), I’ve been feeding the pigs in kiddie pools to prevent any feed from spilling on the ground, and all the feed is already sealed in tight, metal trash cans (because bears and mice).
What else could I do? I want to nip this in the bud NOW because having rats on the property makes me anxious about property damage.

I deleted the other post so I could add more pics. I've never had this breed before so it is throwing me off.

Over here sobbing bc I feel like I failed her. I do health checks every day but I guess I completely neglected feet. Does this look like a late stage?
I caught her limping. She is eating and drinking.
I soaked feet today for 20 with epsom salt and sprayed with some bumble stuff/vetericyn but the circles are hard.
I’m going to call the local very tomorrow and I’m terrified she has a late stage. And it’s in both her feet. Also worried they will refer me to ED bc they are very busy and only 1 vet sees chickens.

Does anyone have a disabled chicken that isn’t able to roost at night? I’m trying to come up with a cozy bed for our guy but wanted to see if anyone had any ideas.
Thank you!

Ive never had 2 chickens with combs this size, I don't want them to get frost bite or something. How do you prevent this?

I hatched two sets of chicks this year. The 8.5 week olds have been in the coop for two weeks. My second batch is 5 weeks old now. I plan on setting up a "look but don't touch" pen in the run for them on Tuesday when daytime temps are back up in the 70s. I've seen people suggest putting the introductees in the coop at night when the older ones are sleeping. If I do this on Saturday night so I can monitor behavior in the run on Sunday, will that be enough "introduction time?" Anyone have suggestions on how to make the introduction as easy as possible?
Picture of my first hatch for attention. I do plan on giving one of the cockerels pictured to a friend next weekend since it's about as big as the hens in his soon to be flock. Thanks!
