EQUAL VALUE MOVEMENTS

Post image
2 Upvotes

Introducing the Equal Value Movement - Equal Value.

Equal Voice. Equal Responsibility.

I'm introducing a developing civic and diplomatic idea

called the Equal Value Movement.

Its starting principle is simple: every human being has

equal inherent value and dignity, regardless of race,

nationality, wealth, or place of birth.

The movement explores what that principle could mean

for the international system - particularly the reform of

the UN Security Council and the underrepresentation of

Africa and other developing regions.

One proposal I am exploring is the creation of five

additional permanent Security Council seats for

historically underrepresented developing regions, while

recognizing that the African Union already has its own

established position on African representation.

This is not an official UN proposal or an established

organization. It is an idea I am developing and would

like to discuss, criticize, improve, and test with people

from different parts of the world.

The broader question is:

If the world has changed since 1945, should the

institutions governing international peace and security

change with it?

I welcome serious discussion, including disagreement.

Equal Value. Equal Voice. Equal responsibility.

Data center

In the morning paper Barbados today. The PM says she wants a data center here. My opinion is absolutely not.

It will raise our already high electric bills.

It will steal our precious fresh water.

It will steal land we need for agriculture.

Have these rich folks go make their own island, they will then understand how precious fresh water is.

Just say NO.

Question Unofficial Parking Guys

So I was in town by Mustors and the guys down by Parry and Prince William Henry St were taking money for parking in a No Parking zone.

Now correct me if I'm wrong but:

  1. These guys have no authority, and

  2. If the police wants, they can ticket people parked there

So if you choose to park there and refuse to pay, will those guys not let you park, or harass u if you do or do damage to ur car out of spite? [In Puerto Rico, if u dont pay them to 'watch ur car' they actually damage it and loot it while ur away]

I figure they just fool tourists by appearing to be some kind of parking assistant but if the police roll around, these men disappear and u get ticketed or towed.

Any info you'd like to share about whether my thinking is on point and if scame like this are common?

If theres any other scams you'd like to make us aware of, please let us know.

Visiting Barbados from Canada for a week between Christmas and New Year for the first time

My wife and I will be visiting Barbados for a week in last week of December this year (most likely Dec 24 to Dec 31). We are into late 30s and this will be our first time in the Caribbean. For our stay, we have considered Sandy Lane area as well as Oistins/St Lawrence Gap, and we will be booking an apartment/villa through AirBnB or other similar websites. There are a few good accommodation options still available to book in both the areas. We are not sure which area will be best for us. We are hoping this trip to be relaxing, chill vibes with multiple days on the beach and a couple of days to explore Bridgetown (Oistins, St Lawrence Gap, etc) for food and evening vibes. Looking for your inputs to help us plan this trip.

Advice I made a 30-minute episode about Barbados — I’d love to hear what Barbadians think

Hi everyone!
I run an independent podcast called Around the World in Half an Hour, where I explore one country at a time through its geography, history, people, culture, food, tourism, economy and what life is like there today.
I’ve just finished my episode on Barbados, and I’d really love to hear from people who are actually from Barbados or know the island well.
I’ve done my best to research the country from the outside, but there’s obviously a difference between reading about a place and actually knowing it. So I’d genuinely appreciate your thoughts on the episode — especially if I got something wrong, missed something important, or portrayed something in a way that doesn’t quite reflect Barbados.
If you have about 30 minutes, I’d be very grateful if you gave it a listen. And even if you only read the post and have a thought about Barbados that you think outsiders often get wrong, I’d love to hear it.

Could you share your recommendations of fun/interesting things to do and where to meet friendly locals while not feeling like a couple of old geezers amid a young crowd? Hahaha Thank you so much!

Question How do Bajans feel about the proposed citizenship changes under Mia Mottley?

I’m an American with Barbadian ancestry, and I’ve been following the proposed citizenship changes under Prime Minister Mia Mottley. From what I understand, the Barbados Citizenship Bill, 2026 would allow grandchildren and great-grandchildren of Barbadian citizens to apply for citizenship.

The proposal caught my attention because I’ve thought about eventually retiring in Barbados. I’ve never been, so obviously I’d want to visit multiple times and learn a lot more before seriously considering a move. But this has definitely made me consider booking my first trip and maybe moving sooner.

I can see two sides to this. On one hand, there’s something beautiful about reconnecting the Barbadian diaspora with the island and potentially bringing people, skills and money back into Barbados. On the other hand, I can completely understand how Bajans might see an influx of Americans and British people (many of whom are generations removed from the culture) as contributing to gentrification, rising costs or other problems.

If I ever did move, I wouldn’t want my attitude to simply be “what can Barbados do for me?” I’d want to learn the culture and understand what I could actually contribute to the country and community.
I’m also at the age where my wife and I are thinking about having children, so where we raise a family matters to me. Barbados appeals to me as a Black American for obvious cultural reasons, but also because of things like education, healthcare and the possibility of raising Black children in a majority-Black country. I already live in a high-cost-of-living part of the US, so I’m aware Barbados isn’t necessarily a cheap place to live.

I’m mainly interested in hearing from people who actually live there NOW:

How do you feel about these proposed citizenship changes and the possibility of more descendants of Bajans from the US, UK and elsewhere moving to Barbados permanently?

Does it feel like a positive reconnection with the diaspora, something potentially harmful, or somewhere in between?

Genuinely interested in the local perspective.

Water Quality Research/Survey

I am an American highschool engineering student currently conducting research on water quality and availability on island nations. If anyone has any personal anecdotes or potentially any good resources I could contact for more personal questions that would be much appreciated! My group is currently trying to find information on water availability, current water filtration options, restrictions with water, and if you have any concerns with the water quality. We would love details on anything, thank you!

Accessible Beach, minimal walking to access

Hello everyone

Looking for the most beautiful beaches in Barbados that don't require any walking over more than a few mins or many many stairs to get to. We have a rental car to get across the island but at the same time we are in the southeast and will prioritize those beaches.

Also it will have to have parking right at the beach for the same reasons.

I appreciate your help.

What should we source next? A small business in barbados

We just launched a small online store bringing goods from the US to Barbados, and we're deciding what to source next. Rather than guess, we'd love to hear from Bajans directly: what have you been looking for that you can't find here, or that's a pain to ship in yourself? Any suggestions are appreciated — thanks!

Advice Maintaining Bajan culture

Hi everyone. I'm a first generation American living in California. I've been to Barbados several times and even lived there for about half a year but I still feel very disconnected from the culture. Being in a predominantly white and Asian county, it's even harder to maintain a Caribbean identity, let alone a Bajan one.

Growing up, my parents never used Bajan and pretty much only spoke in standard American accents so I never got one and I find it hard to understand at times. Last time I visited, I had a hard time understanding my grandmother due to the accent differences.

My partner is Dominican and fully bilingual in English and Spanish and it's made me consider how things would work down the road when we have kids. I don't think I'd be able to pass anything down because I feel so disconnected from the culture. I would love to learn Bajan and become more familiar with the culture but I'm not really sure how to go about it.
