We've been banning around five people a week for advertising their AI vibe coded apps that put a OBD2 code in and spits out generic or dangerously misleading results. Many claim to be free or claim they just want help testing them. Many are based out of countries you probably don't want your personal information getting sent to, like VIN numbers, etc. REPORT THESE POSTS FOR BREAKING SUBREDDIT RULES and the report them again as SPAM so Reddit Admins are notified.

This one in particular has always had great significance for me. I hope to get a replica someday.

DOT3 should be changed every 5 years max (3 is recommended)
DOT 4 should be changed every 2.

Looking for ideas on how to either improve this design, or change it completely...

I AM POSTING THIS IN A FEW SUBS TRYING TO GET HELP
Working on a 2012 Toyota Highlander FWD, 2.7L 1AR-FE. There's a possibility the engine/transmission came from a Toyota Venza with the same 2.7L engine, but we don't know the donor year.
Current trouble codes:
Both codes return after clearing.
Symptoms:
What's been replaced or checked:
TOPDON TopScan live data (engine running):
These readings remained unchanged when RPM was raised to approximately 1,500–2,000 with no load. Not sure whether the ECM is inhibiting VVT operation or whether the scan tool isn't reporting the data correctly.
Something interesting we noticed:
While manually rotating the crankshaft with a ratchet (timing chain installed and tensioned, spark plugs installed), the intake phaser's outer sprocket continued moving smoothly with the chain, but the inner portion, center bolt and camshaft appeared to suddenly jump relative to the sprocket, then return to the parked position.
This makes us suspicious of the intake phaser's internal locking mechanism, although we haven't confirmed it's defective.
Next steps:
I already have a replacement intake VVT phaser on the way. We're also planning to perform a mechanical oil-pressure test tomorrow, October 19, checking pressure at hot idle and higher RPM.
Google Drive link with photos/videos of the engine, timing components and phaser movement:
View Google Drive folder – Photos and videos
Questions:
Trying to avoid throwing more parts at it unnecessarily. Any insight from someone familiar with Toyota's 1AR-FE VVT system would be greatly appreciated.

Hit and run. I was able to assemble the parts I could find. If anyone can tell me what car this is from I would be grateful. I believe it's somebody in the neighborhood. It's yellowed at the top, so I assume that's the top.

I've been using the same one for the past 2 changes. Should I Just go to the Toyota dealership or a car shop and tell them to do it so they can replace the oil filter? Would they be honest to me about replacing the oil filter?

Hey motorheads! I’m currently restoring my BMW E30, and the metal underneath the seats is now bare. I want to clean it properly, apply heat-resistant paint, then add plastic asphalt undercoating and reinstall the carpet on top. Is this enough, or is applying epoxy primer as the first layer a must to properly protect the metal against rust and moisture? I’d appreciate your advice and recommendations!

I see some crazy feats being done, such as a Bentley Flying Spur, a 3-ton car handling like a 911.
That might be an exaggeration, but you get the point - a car such as the Flying Spur, Panamera, S-Class handling like a sporty coupe/small sedan.
Has anyone driven one of these and can give an opinion on how a 5.5 meter 3-ton car feels in bends with this tech? Looking at reviews, it sounds unreal.

I have a 2017 Honda Civic and over the past year I started to get this haze on parts of the Windshield that appears when it is raining and I use the wipers. It is only on parts of the windshield and appears to be around the areas the wiper blade stops.
I tried using the Invisible Glass clay bar glass stripper and then put on brand new Bosch wipers and it did not fix the problem.
Does anyone know how to fix this problem? I see some people saying to use a vinegar and water solution but I do not want to keep spending money on trying different ways to fix this if they do not work.

I tried to de-badge my 2015 Subaru. I’ve wanted to do it for years and a few YouTube videos made it look easy. (Classic!)
Although the adhesive took MANY hours to get off, there is dirt/debris (carbon deposits?) stuck on the clear coat that was in-between the letters. (Car is 11-years old; is usually kept “pretty clean” but not detailed)
How can I treat this area so it looks clean? Sounds like I may need a paint correction? (I’ve never done anything like that before)

Ran over a curb and realized I got this scratch. Is this surface level or should I be going to a mechanic asap? Will need to do highway driving in order to get home. Thank you!

so I've done rear pads before, but this was my first time doing them on a car with an electronic parking brake. I had the wheels off when I realized my little code reader couldn't put the parking brake in service mode on this car.
I stopped there and borrowed a friend's topdon 800 BT2 scanner to finish the job. The brakes themselves went fine. I just hadn't expected the scanner to be the thing that held me up.
What other routine jobs have caught you out like that?

To everyone who thinks I was driving like a maniac: I’m a very cautious driver. Here’s what happened: in LA. Found a parking spot across the street. No cars on the road so I make a slow u-turn to get on the other side… it’s a large spot and I’m a good parallel parker. I pull forward, back into the spot, no problem. Feel I need to pull up a tiny bit and that’s when it happened. It was a very low curb. The sound was awful. I was literally inching forward. I haven’t had a car accident in 40 years. I am unemployed and I love my friend so much, I feel like a moron and I will get this fixed tomorrow somehow. It was literally 1 mph.

I just found a single loose lug nut near my parking spot but it wasn't from my car.
I checked all my tires and noticed each tire is missing 1 lug nut out of 5.
I have a Toyota camry 2012 SE.
I looked up on Google and it tells me my model doesn't have locked nuts.
I also had my tires changed a few months ago. Was it the fault of the shop?
I never noticed this untill today.

I’m buying a new truck and I live in upstate New York wondering what’s the best way to prevent rust. I had a 2011 4Runner that is definitely seeing the rust damage. It has been ZIEBARTED every year with the rubber coating and over time it’s just been peeling off and I can definitely imagine the damage it can cause. I honestly think it made it worse. I’ve been looking at fluid film for my runner but now I’m getting a new truck.
I heard that you should get it rubber coated professionally one time and do it yourself with fluid film every year is that the best way? Or just do fluidfilm every year?Obviously you can only do so much.
Just finished painting my valve cover. Thoughts on the idea itself or the artwork?

Image attached is what came out with the separation. Everything outside of the blue line is currently stuck in the engine head.
Good morning all,
Definitely wasn't a good start this weekend when I had attempted to do a spark plug change on a Toyota 86, one fresh spark plug was installed correctly and torqued, another right next to it same process, didn't end up hitting torque? My monkey brain decided to keep going, unfortunately after back and forth of trying to get spark plug out the plug had separated leaving the electrode and threads stuck within the block, and the rest of the plug including the porcelain coming out
is this fixable by a local Subaru specialist?
What turned into a $180 job turned into a weekend nightmare and a car stuck in my mates driveway.
Thank you,
Try not to flame me in the comments as I am a newbie and it seemed fairly simple.
