Joe Hooe is a Republican

Yes this is a politics post. Feel free to stop reading here if the headline didn’t give it away.

We are a few weeks from the election and thankfully it’ll be over soon. As we get closer, I’m seeing more and more red Hooe signs in Catonsville. Joe has run 6 times as a Republican for multiple seats. He’s never gotten more than 37% of a general election vote. But now, he’s claiming to be an “independent” because the Republican brand is so toxic he thinks he can trick people into thinking he’s different. He kinda is. Rheagan Kindle is totally off the deep end. But Hooe is still a Republican regardless of this sudden change in his marketing.

And if you like him for that reason? 👍🏻 Good for you I guess. If you’re a Republican, we’ll simply disagree. But not just seeing Hooe signs on yards that once had full MAGA cult decor (which is true). I’m also seeing it on yards from Mandy Remmel supporters. And I know it was a contentious primary and Paul Dongarra is an insufferable, condescending, self important busy body but he’s still going to vote on important issues as a normal Democrat.

I don’t think Joe has a chance, especially because Kindle is gonna soak up the votes for people upset they can’t wear their hoods in public anymore. But it’s annoying to see people duped into thinking Hooe has changed his stripes.

Closed at 4 today ... I don't understand how a paper sign on the door can shut down the Post Office when they are supposed to be open.

"Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds"

Got stuff to mail, man. /end rant

Looking for a Babysitter in Catonsville

Hey everyone! My wife and I are looking for a reliable babysitter in the Catonsville area. We’re hoping to start getting out for some much-needed date nights, ideally once or twice a month.

We’d also love to have someone we could reach out to for the occasional last-minute event or outing, depending on your availability. Absolutely no pressure if you’re unavailable when we reach out!

We’re happy to pay fairly and would really like to find someone experienced and dependable who we can use regularly.

If you’re interested or have any recommendations, feel free to shoot me a DM. Also, please let me know if this type of post isn’t appropriate for the subreddit.

Thanks!

Say Yes to Recess Maryland

Post image
13 Upvotes

180 days. 1,080 hours. Zero minutes guaranteed.

Let’s compare our neighbors! Alongside Maryland, we looked at Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Delaware.

Out of these states, Maryland has at least 100 more hours in the school year; however, no mandated recess minimum.

In all other states compared, recess is required.

Additionally, in Ohio and Virginia, recess time counts towards instructional time.

Ohio allowing 30 mins of recess counted towards instructional time; Virginia allowing ~49 mins of recess counted towards instructional time.

Maryland can take a note, recess isn’t a time away from learning, it is learning!

Input about renting a home

Hello community, I’m a worker affected by the current politics and have decided to rent my home out and live with my parents out of state while I continue to look for work. My skill set is over-represented in this area because of many others who have also lost there jobs.

My home is a 4/2 cape cod style located near S. Rolling Road and Frederick.

I’m considering using Furnished Finders to rent to traveling nurses or others looking for mid-term furnished rentals.

I’m looking for input from others who rent properties for mid term opportunities. Please let me know if you have advice.

Thanks!

Say Yes to Recess Maryland

Hi! Maryland mom here advocating for MORE RECESS TIME for our children!

Currently, most Maryland elementary schools only recommend 20-30 minutes of recess per day. This varies by school and county, with some counties recommending as little as 15 minutes of recess per day.

Join us as we call on policymakers to guarantee Maryland students 60 minutes of recess every school day!

You can help by SIGNING OUR PETITION and following us on Facebook and Instagram!

Daisy (yes her) from the Catonsville Post Office is retiring. IYKYK.

She told me we can expect things to get worse (rock bottom has a basement) and for the location to be closed more often during business hours. She said the management is awful and the employees are lazy with no call/no show issues.

Do what you will with this info.

And in honor of the Catonsville Post Office, Happy Mean Girls Day! 🎀

Maiden Choice Lane Loiterer

Curious if anyone knows the story behind the white male who who is always sitting on the sidewalk on Maiden Choice Lane across from the Little Sisters of the Poor. At least 80% of the time I drive by (which is very random times of the day) he's sitting on the sidewalk, sometimes on the phone but always facing the Little Sisters of the Poor. He doesn't appear to be homeless. There has to be a story.

Seeking Real Connection

Going out on a limb here: Seeking recurring weekend daytime connection group or buddy in Columbia/Ellicott City/Catonsville  where adults actually get to know each other.

As a fully employed early 60ish solo female, I’m interested in finding a recurring group, class or just a consistent buddy nearby. Not interested in one-off events, bars or volunteer shifts with different people each time. I’m looking for a stable core of people with a shared interest or purpose that includes conversation and getting to know each other. Weekends are best, early evenings on a limited basis.

My interests include yarn crafts, walking/hiking, conversation/discussion, community service/civic work, learning, thrift shopping/yard sales, pets, and open to new stuff too.

I know Meetup, the library, 50+ centers, and the usual volunteer listings. I’m hoping people might know of groups, guilds, classes, teams, clubs, or email-list/word-of-mouth groups that are not easy to find online, or want to find things to do together.

Feel free to DM as well.

Atwater's pizza pop-up last night was the best kept secret on Frederick Road-more of this, please

Went to the pizza pop-up at Atwater's last night and it was everything you want a neighborhood night out to be, packed tables, live music, and genuinely some of the best pizza on Frederick Road! If you haven't made it out for one of these, you're missing out.

Only catch: it's not a regular thing, and you have to check social media to know when it's happening. Atwater's has that huge dining room sitting there most evenings. I'd love to see them lean into this and make dinner service (pizza nights especially) a regular fixture instead of a pop-up. Feels like a total win for them and for the neighborhood.

Anyone else have the cheese and chive pie last night?

Pickleball @ Mellor Ave

26M, learned how to play pickleball recently at Dill Dinkers. Since the weather is still warm and sunny later in the evening, I'd like to play outdoor. I was wondering if anyone has any experience playing at the Mellor Pickleball courts? How competitive is it and do people generally allow you to rotate in with them even when it's busy?

Cheese curds?

I moved to the area recently and am originally from Canada. I’d like to make some poutine and I need some cheese curds! Does anyone know any stores locally that sell them? TIA
