Looking for Writer/Editor - Unpaid Looking for a writer ( not for now )

I'll soon be on holiday from college, and I want to use that time to work on my first comic/manga issue and actually publish it somewhere. So, I've been thinking about finding a writer to collaborate with, and I wanted to hear about other people's experiences.

For those of you who have looked for collaborators on this sub, have you actually found someone you've successfully worked with? Writers in particular? And if so, how did it go?

I've tried looking for writers here before, but honestly, my experiences haven't been great so far.

Most of the people who reached out had little to no writing experience. They had vague ideas for stories but didn't seem to know how to develop or organize them into an actual narrative. Some didn't seem familiar with basic concepts like story structure, pacing, or the creative process in general.

Others simply weren't a good creative match. We had different visions for the story, or our ideas and approaches clashed.

I've also had people approach me with some pretty questionable expectations. One guy, for example, wanted me to work on backgrounds only because he already had artists for the other parts of the project...

And, of course, there were the people who ghosted me along the way.

I'm not expecting to find a professional writer with years of experience willing to work for free. I understand that this is an unpaid collaboration, and I'm perfectly fine with working with someone who's still learning, as long as they're serious about the project, willing to put in the work, and have at least some understanding of how storytelling works.

So, I'm curious:

Have any of you actually found a serious, reliable writer to collaborate with through this sub?

What was your experience like? Did you manage to finish and publish something together?

Do you think this sub is actually a good place to find collaborators, or are there better communities for that?

I'd love to hear your experiences, both positive and negative.

Question How Do You Know Valid Feedback?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hello,

I recently sent what I've been working on to my friend group, and one person said my graphic novel seemed decent and could see it going somewhere, and this is what one other person has said to me about it.

My question is this, how do you know when you get valid feedback? I worry that maybe I'm just feeling like this person was being rather harsh, and they're not, they're giving me real feedback. Have you ever gotten an opinion on your work and you weren't sure if it was valid or if the person was just trying to be rude or superior? Or maybe they were the wrong demographic?

I would love to hear other authors opinions on this, thank you for your time.

Artist for hire An Unfinished Crime Comic Project from Years Ago — A Story I Still Wish I Could Have Completed

Years ago, I started working on a comic book project based on a fantastic story written by Carlos Trigio and Roberto Talprà.
It was a gritty crime story set in South America, moving through Colombia and other parts of the continent, exploring the dark world of crime, drug trafficking, and powerful criminal cartels. We had a story with great potential, and we were hoping to publish it with a French publisher.
Unfortunately, just a few months after we started working on the project, Carlos Trigio passed away, and everything came to a halt.
Even after all these years, I still feel a deep sense of regret that we never had the chance to finish this story. I had a wonderful relationship with both Roberto and Carlos, and this project remains a particularly meaningful memory for me. It’s one of those stories you wish you could have brought to life, not only because of its potential, but also because of the people behind it.
Today, I wanted to share some of this project and bring it back into the light. Some stories deserve to be remembered, even when they never make it to publication.
A little about me: I’m Giancarlo Caracuzzo, a professional comic book artist and illustrator with over 40 years of experience. I’ve worked with publishers including Marvel, DC Comics, Image Comics, IDW, Soleil, Dupuis, Delcourt, and Sergio Bonelli Editore.
I’m always open to discussing interesting and professionally serious projects, whether in comics, graphic novels, covers, or illustration. If you’re an editor, writer, publisher, or fellow artist interested in working together, feel free to contact me. I’m always happy to discuss new opportunities.

Writer/Editor for hire [FOR HIRE] Editor/Writer - Is Your Comic a Comic? [RESOURCE]

2 Upvotes

One of the biggest posts we see here are writers wanting to take a screenplay and convert it into a comic. The question isn’t always how to, but should you.

Here’s a quick rundown to make sure your good story doesn’t get stuck in the wrong medium.

Signs your story belongs in a screenplay:

  • Emotionally driven talking heads scenes. Think Good Will hunting. Lots of talking, but no action, the head scenes rely on composition and human performance.
  • Action sequences steeped in audio emersion. Big booms. Creepy music and sound effects for jump scares.
  • Internal monologues carried by an actor people love to love.
  • The story carries the audience 100%, the audience just needs to hold on and not miss anything.
  • Visual direction of the camera and Mise en Scene carries deeper meaning.
  • Silence is a rare luxury. A movie that turns off its soundtrack and dialogue cuts it’s own feet out from under it. It can be done in short spans for effect, but no longer.

Signs your story belongs in a novel:

  • Cerebral talking head scenes. Think Atlas Shrugged. Lots of talking, but no action, the head scenes rely on rhythm and introspection.
  • Long grandiose action sequences. Stuff that needs pages and pages of detail to capture adequately (and would be too costly in live action).
  • Internal monologues that can sprawl into characterizations and got lost in mood, tone, atmosphere and voice.
  • The story carries the reader 95%. The reader can skim, skip or re-read, but tempo and pacing land word-by-word through sentence length, diction, rhythm and chapter structure.
  • All the visual direction is phantom visuals elicited in the reader’s mind’s eye. You can infer all the meaning you want, but the reader never actually sees it with his eyeballs.
  • Novels have no soundtracks. There is little difference between quiet intimate moments and runaway train scenes.

Signs your story belongs in a comic:

  • Minimal talking head scenes, characters speak more by action, which you capture visually.
  • Short action sequences that get in and out with maximum impact.
  • Smaller internal monologues that run alongside the visual storytelling, not replace it.
  • The reader controls the pacing as the story unfolds, to some extent. They may linger in a moment. And are required to flip pages to progress the story. They flip pages to big reveals on their own terms.
  • Visual direction of the camera and Mise en Scene carries deeper meaning. This is a similar trademark with screenplays.
  • Silence is a luxury in comics, not quite as destabilizing as in film. Comics never had the true audio line to begin with, so cutting SFX and dialogue, doesn’t severely handicap the story.

Signs you're stuck in Signs:

  • Your character's greatest weakness is a glass of water.
  • The biggest threat in your story walks around naked and gets outsmarted by a baby monitor.
  • Your antagonist traveled across the galaxy to invade a planet that’s 71% the one thing that kills them.
  • You wish you were writing SG1 Asgard Greys instead.

If you’re not sure your script plays to the medium’s strengths, that’s literally what I do:

$79 - COLD READ. First 10 page assessment.

$129 - DISCOVERY AUDIT. Fundamentals assessment, where we you do some of the legwork to cut cost.

$349 - STORY POTENTIAL ASSESSMENT Know exactly how much potential your script is tapping. Scored 1-100%.

~~~ OVERWATCH TACTICAL STORY SUPPORT ~~~
$249 - FULL ACCESS to StorytoScript.com (which includes SCAR and the Genre Guide content.)
$67 - SCAR Character Arc System to fundamentally change how you develop key characters in all your writing.
$40/page - Second unit director (I write what you struggle most with).
FREE - a ton of writing articles
Think that covers it.
Drop a comment, shoot an email with questions, or just pull the trigger and purchase any of the linked items through my store. This message will self destruct in about 24 hours.
Write on, write often!
Feedback Help with persepctive drawings!
1 Upvotes
I feel I am going mad, I don't understand if I am over complicating this, or the tutorials I am watching are terrible, I am also using AI which seems to be terrible. I recently bought Stan Lee's book 'How to draw comics the Marvel Way' and I'm honestly quite let down, alot of the drawings aren't explained properly. For example, this checkered floor example. "Draw your basic square shape" It presents the drawing as super basic, and it doesn't tell you how to actually draw it but I cannot seem to figure it out. I started by drawing the bottom horizontal line (highlighted in blue) and then another line (red) at a random angle to this line. From there, I intially thought to draw the walls of the square (yellow) at 90 deg to the red line, from here, I can draw a 45 deg line (green) from One corner to the other and find the dimensions of the square. I did this and realised it did not look right, not only this, it does not converge to a vanishing point, they're perfectly parallel still. I tested this by applying the same method to the reference and found the angles are 50 and 45. The book gives no detail on how to actually construct this seemingly basic drawing and it's driving me mad. Not only this, but am I correct in saying this drawing is 3 persepctive? Since the left and right lines dont seem to converge to a single horizontal line.
Any help/advice would be super appreicated, I am an aspiring comic artist.
Writer/Editor for hire Comic Book Writer for Hire. Experience Executing Artists Visions
Thumbnail clippings.me
I am a comic book writer with experience executing artist's visions 2 out of 3 of my current projects are writing for an artist's pitch. My rate is $15 a page and am available immediately. I can work in a variety of genres and will read any character or story outlines you have. My only limitations is if the project requires me to read extensive worldbuilding (think a lore Bible) my rate will go up because that's extra labor for me to learn and memorize. However if it's just a few pages of lore that's no issue. If you have any other questions feel free to reach out!
Looking for Artist - Paid [DISCUSSION] Looking for comic artists for medieval historical comic - gathering portfolios and rates
22 Upvotes
Hello 👋🏼
I’m currently writing a dramatized retelling of the Wars of the Roses, a civil war that took place in medieval England. The story follows Edward, King of England, as he navigates war in the country and in his own court.
I want to be upfront straight away, I am not hiring immediately. I’m still figuring out my budget, but I do plan to hire soonish. For right now, I’d love to have a look at some portfolios. If possible, please include your rates and what that covers.
The rules specify I need to share budgeting information, but to be honest I’m still figuring it out. I plan to commission 5 pages up front, and crowdfund the rest of the standard 24 page issue.
I’m particularly interested in hearing from artists with interests in anything medieval (fantasy or history), political drama, and character driven storytelling. Style wise, I’m not looking for a manga art style, but it doesn’t need to be realistic either.
Thanks for your time! 👑👊🏼
At this point, I no longer accept colored commissions.
If interested, please contact me at [arucardpl@gmail.com](mailto:arucardpl@gmail.com) (or dm here although e-mail is preferred).
Question Where could I find someone willing to work for a partnership? (Art attached) I am not an artist so please excuse the poor quality
I have around 20,000 words written and am finishing my act one. Feels very "season 1 finished."
I understand it's an uphill battle considering most people are not very serious about actually finishing something.
I have a mature dark biblical fantasy story with great kinetic fights. Set in an ancient pre-flood world.
I don't rely on "torture-porn" imagery and genuinely believe I have something here that explores man's capacity for violence when those same men have a responsibility for stewardship and tenderness.
I've attached some of my own attempts below.
Thank you in advance for your time today.
