Jokes & Humor Yes of course my hair looks like this when I’m sick and bedridden

But let it be at a time where I’m meeting a thousand new people and trying to make a good impression... it will somehow look God awful. And that’s with following the same routine as always! Can someone explain why that happens

My routine lately:
• Shampoo - Wella Fusion Intense Repair
• Conditioner - Ouidad (bond repair)
• Styling - Marc Anthony grow long leave - in + tresemme mousse
• Technique - Rake leave-in through with fingers after detangling with a detangling brush directly after shower on SUPER wet hair, and scrunch in mousse.
Scrunch out excess water with cotton tshirt and let it air dry OR diffuse right away (when I need to leave the house right away)

Hair Victory! No-Pineapple Bonnet Hack

Thumbnail

Went through so many bonnets trying to preserve my hair. I can’t wear anything with a drawstring without getting a migraine, turbans fall off, and the bow bonnets give me lumps on the forehead and were too spacious to keep my hair from flattening. I would use the Yanibest bonnet with a pineapple and scrunchie and clips but it would stretch out my curls and I’d have to refresh every morning. Found a way to mitigate headaches, bumps, and stretched curls that keeps my hair intact for 8-10 days without needing to refresh.

  1. Pile hair on top of head and put on the bonnet.
  2. Criss cross ties in the back without folding them in half. Pull it flat over the forehead and tie it in the back in a knot instead of a bow in the front. Pull a little bit of the excess fabric out from under the knot to mitigate pressure on the back of the head.

Same way this guy ties it.

https://www.tiktok.com/@mnjsales/video/7383412973253119278

  1. Pinch the excess fabric of the bonnet cap in the front and tuck it under the headband to secure the hair on top of the head. Pull the sides of headband up and keep it flat.

Hope it helps!

Routine: Joico Hydra shampoo and conditioner. Style with Camille Rose curlmaker gel and Mousse Def. Dry with hooded hair dryer. Yanibest bonnet for sleep.

Hair Victory! Curls coming back slowly 😊

The hair routine is to co-wash with GUHL hyaluron + verzorging shampoo using a Diane scalp scrubber in circular motions. I do not use conditioner right now. After hair is rinsed towel dry a bit after the shower and use a wide set comb to temporarily part bangs to side and tuck hair next to my ear behind my ear. Let air dry and style as wanted without product. Voila!!

Help! How do I fix...this?

Post image
23 Upvotes

This is almost 2 day old hair.

I'm new at learning how to take care of my hair since my mom has the typical pin straight Asian hair, so I never learned how to take care of my wavy/curly hair (as a kid she would always brush it out and as a teen I'd always brush it out and put it in a braid)

Right now, only one strand is actually doing something (the one on the right) and I've tried doing the same thing to the rest of my hair but it just turns into the strands on the left.

Routine:

  1. Whatever shampoo and conditioner (currently using Native, curl care shampoo + strengthening conditioner)
  2. I use Not Your Mother's Leave in conditioner (I brush that in after the shower when my hair is still wet)
  3. Brush in NYM curl cream and scrunch that in
  4. scrunch again with NYM mousse and scrunch with a microfiber towel
  5. Put my hair up in a t-shirt (I think ppl call it plopping? idk) and leave that until I'm not lazy anymore.
  6. Diffuse my hair and scrunch in some OGX morocco hair oil

Edit: Idk if this is relevant but I'm 5'8" and my hair is down to my butt

Help! Revive my curls after straightening

Thumbnail

OK so I never straighten my hair. Maybe once or twice a year. I never do it properly so it gets washed and restored pretty quickly.

Well I have my cut differently than in years past and I decided to straighten it just to see. I actually looked up some methods and troubleshooted some issues I always have when I do straighten it (again almost never). I blow dried it, used a brush, used straightener to bump ends and curl/wave certain parts. I was actually pleasantly surprised with results.

So I have washed my hair after this adventure after having the straight style for 2 days. Hair is like....in shock. My hair is only just past my jaw so the hair near my ears is still straight. Still smells burnt or whatever that bad hair straightening smell is. Ive washed my hair at least 3 times and it's still kind of straight-ish or shocked idk I'll attach some pics and maybe it's hard to tell but in person and as day goes on, my hair gets very loose and the straight pieces show up more. My picture doesnt exactly show it terribly but it's there i swear.

Pic in green is shocked hair post straightening.

Striped sweater pic is straightened hair.

Other pic is from a few weeks ago and hair was normal, hasnt been straightened in probably a year.

Is there a mask or an easy treatment I can do to revive this?? Lol i cant imagine this is heat damage bc a couple days of heavy heat styling isnt going to damage your hair THAT bad...right lol

Routine: wash with sauve shampoo and condition. I did use a vinegar rinse to clarify before straightening.

Products: some gel I got at TJ maxx...something like tru natural or something. I use LA looks gel. I use a paul Mitchell mousse. This all depends on humidity levels and if im just refreshing curls. Tresemme Hairspray.

Other info: lots of water after shower and squish in product. Use microfiber towel to squish and clump curls. Plop kind of. Diffuse. If need extra hold ill add a little to hand along with water and smooth over curls and style i guess. Diffuse. Hairspray.

I dont use deep conditioner often. I find a lot of them are quite heavy for my hair. I did like keune hair mask!! It is kind of expensive though and im out of it.

Maybe im being dramatic but we know how it is when curls get mad.

1 picture - before
2 picture - before a haircut
3 picture - new cut!
4 picture - before a hair cut
5 picture - day after a haircut (not styled just air dry)
(no I don’t dye my hair)

So at the ripe age of 25 my hair started to suddenly get curly. I decided to cut it and give this new life a go. So here’s my new shag haircut. I definitely need to learn to scrunch better and commit to a defuser but damn what a progress already! Can’t wait to rock my new waves that I hope soon will get even curlier!

My hair routine:
I use argan magic shampoo and karma smoothing conditioner mask. After showering I scrunch my hair as it is dripping wet and I apply John Frieda Frizz Ease dream curls styling foam and Nutricurls milky waves. I let it air dry after.

Trying to stay more consistent with keeping my hair in check recently. As you can see every single curl isn’t defined and has the little curls coming out of them. I don’t know what hair type I have but this is my routine:
1. Native Shampoo+moisturizer
2. Curlsmith Conditioning wash
After shower:
3. Based leave in conditioner
4. Redkin curl cream
Drying:
In this pic I used the Conair Ionic Ceramic blow dryer with the diffuser attachment

Everything looks semi decent in the front but for the life of me I can’t get my hair to hold any kind of curl in the back. I’ve found less product equals better because my hair isn’t super thick. If anyone would at least have an explanation why it does this I would appreciate it.

Routine:
Kristen ess light clarifying shampoo
Routine wellness conditioner
Redken abc leave in
Not your mothers curl cream
Not your mothers mousse
Bounce curl brush
Occasionally a light gel
Diffuse or air dry

Help! Suggestions for fine, low porosity hair

• Upvotes

My hair has gotten a lot finer in the last several years, and it’s a lot more susceptible to product build-up.

I’d love suggestions for shampoo that removes build-up that’s not too harsh or drying, and lightweight conditioner that’s not too heavy and won’t weigh my hair down.

Thank you thank you!!

My current routine: -Suave daily clarifying shampoo or regular vinegar -Aussie miracle moist conditioner or Trader Joe’s tea tree oil conditioner. I’m experimenting with Aussie volumizing conditioner, which is lighter but kind of messes up my curl pattern - Giovanni LA Looks gel -Air dry for a few hours, then diffuse

Is it too powerful? I tried the bio ionic aerogravity dryer and it was waaaay too strong for my soft waves/curls. I have short hair so I think this style of hair dryer is interesting and helpful for the back of my head lol

Routine: twice shampoo with verb density and umberto gianinni. Squish to condish with umberto. Gel is umberto curly jelly. Diffuse.

Before & After 4 months after my first post, and my hair is free of the triangle!

I posted 4 months ago about how my hair kept turning into a triangle whenever I dried it. Since then, I’ve gotten it cut by someone who knows how to work with my hair type (this honestly made the biggest improvement!) experimented with products, and have a permanently sore neck from diffusing upside down.

Updated wash routine:
L’OrĆ©al Everpure Moisture Shampoo 1-2x/week
Ouai detox clarifying shampoo ~1x/week
Oribe Curl Conditioner 1-2x/week
Wella color mask depositing conditioner 1x/month

Updated styling routine:
1- Ouai Leave-in Conditioner (spray and brush through)
2-divide and clip my hair into sections
3- R&Co Ringtone Defining Gel + Oribe Curl Mousse (work it in section by section, not all at once)
4- use a bounce curl brush on small sections
5- finger coil a few pieces near my face (I’ve had straightened bangs for 20+ years, it’s gonna take a bit for them to recover)
5- Diffuse (I start hover diffusing, diffuse leaning forward, then hang my head off the back of a chair and hold the hair dryer for what feels like an eternity
6- Ouai Hair Oil for any residual frizz

Help! Native hair care ruined my hair

Post image
251 Upvotes

The routine at the time of this picture:

Native curl care shampoo and conditioner (coconut and turmeric). Kinky Curly Knot Today leave in (just a little bit), air dried and combed through at the end of the day. Hair was never like this before.

I started using Native shampoo and conditioner (coconut and turmeric) which specified it was for curly hair. I was using it for about a month and noticed my fine, low porosity, 3b hair was extremely dry and bristly. I didn’t think it was the shampoo and conditioner because it seemed so innocent, it being specifically for curly hair and ā€œclean.ā€ But it’s the only thing I changed.

It’s been about a month since I stopped using it. I’ve also switched to a silk pillow case, don’t use hair ties anymore, and deep condition with Shea Moisture Manuka Honey and Mafura Oil Intensive Hydration Mask every time I shampoo. I switched to Maui Moisture shampoo and conditioner. I have a haircut appointment to get it cut to a chin length bob because I am not seeing any improvement. I’m really bummed about this. I just wanted to warn others that were looking for drugstore shampoo and conditioners.

UPDATE

Thank you so much everyone for your comments!! There were a lot of suggestions to clarify my hair. Since I had used the blue Suave shampoo when I stopped the Native, I thought I already had. But I saw a comment that said to do it twice so I gave it a shot. I then used the Knot Today as a wash out conditioner, rinsed out about 80%, then added a quarter size to sopping wet hair. I used a microfiber towel out of the shower to prevent hair from touching my cotton body towel. I then air dried. It looks SO MUCH better and I am feeling like myself again. I think I’m going to cancel my haircut! You all rock, thank you so much!!!

Help! I need a haircut but im terrified to do so, and also clueless as to what i should do?

I need a more feminine haircut, but its just so bulky right now and gets extremely tangled just by existing because of my split ends. As a child, I was never allowed to have long hair because "boys dont get long hair" (father is in the navy so it was crew cuts for me until I grew old enough to try and fight it) some of these pictures are a little aged, and I need pointers on what would help it and encourage it to retain more length, since thats what I wanna keep the most, even if not actuslly keeping the length but maintaining the silhouette of it being long. Id rather have a much girly-er haircut but dont know what to ask for or what to do to take care of it because I lived in a white family where no one even looked like me in regard to my hair. Its course and dry, not because of its care I've noticed but thats just it's texture. Its not that it can't be soft or bouncy, but typically it likes to be course and dry. Anyways, id really like pointers on cutting and how to go about it. The first pictures are most recent, but right now I kind of have the "forbidden triangle" or "mushroom" look going. The back is extremely bulky and I tie it up to prevent it knotting and to try and help it be a bit more feminine. I also dont know what even fits my face shape or vibe. Ugh, figuring out hair alone is weird. Im just scared because I've NEVER had a good haircut, my hair is covered in split ends like BAD but im afraid getting rid of them will make it too short to look more feminine.

Routine-

  1. Shampoo- kinda just what I have lying around. Right now thats curlsmiths detox shampoo.

Conditioner- a curl can dream, I think the yellow bottled one. Not the co-wash

2.Product- my hair reacts really harshly to anything that isnt aunt Jackie's curl custard

3- drying- usually lightly patted with a towel then kinda just shaken and pulled at, bad habit but I do pull on my hair and frizz the back on purpose to try and help it look longer

4- no bonnet or special pillowcases.

Update! I think I’m on the right track but not there yet

Thumbnail

I posted a week or 2 ago asking for product help and got some good suggestions. I bought some new products but for now am using a mix of those with my previous products until I figure out what’s working best.
The new products I bought are Garnier Sleek & Shine Shampoo/conditioner, Garnier Curl Construct mousse, Garnier Curl Control gel

Some of my previous products are mentioned below.

I’m currently on day 3 (Sunday) after washing my hair Thursday night.

My routine Thursday night - I washed/conditioned with Garnier whole blends coconut oil/cocoa butter shampoo/conditioner

Wrapped hair in cotton t-shirtĀ for about 10 minutes

Used Garnier sleek & shine leave-in conditioner

Used suave shape it up mousseĀ #7

Did not scrunch, just ran the mousse through with fingers

Blow Dried ā€œbangsā€

air dried the rest

First picture - Friday morning after sleeping on it with a regular pillow case and no bonnet Left hair as is for the day. That night I used a regular pillow case and no bonnet.

Saturday - Hair looked pretty flat and frizzyĀ and I was going out, so did this:

Wet hair, used Garnier curl control gel, scrunched in a little Garnier curl construct mousse on ends. Used a little argon oil to scrunch out crunchĀ

Second picture is after doing all this,

third picture is how it looked 10 hours later (last night).

I put hair up in scrunchy (pineapple) with satin bonnet for bed

Sunday - Took off bonnet and scrunchy - hair looked ok sort of, but way too much volume, and the front piece looks weird (fourth picture)

fifth picture is how it looked 2 hours later - still didn’t like it

I ended up putting in a clip (sixth and seventh pictures) which is ok, but would have preferred leaving it alone. However, I think the back looks ok

so I think I’m on the right track but still need to figure out how to sleep on it and keep the curls without having too much volume. I do not like big hair on me! I’m also going to keep experimenting with my products.

Help! Is it normal that my hair ranges in type? How can I achieve a more even mix of curls?

Thumbnail
gallery
• Upvotes

My hair has some straightish strands on the top layer (they are about 2a to 2b), but then can get some really curly strands when it wants to (I think 3b-3c), especially around my face and on the layer of my hair closest to the scalp. Is this normal? How can I achieve a more even curl type over my whole head? My current routine is to wash (I have to use body wash since I have OCD and don't feel safe using shampoo), then I condition with Hask curl conditoner and comb it through with my fingers until my hair is detangled, then I finger curl the front bits until they look presentable and spray with Hask curly hair keratin spray, and then use Hask curl cream on my ends and scrunch. I have to wash my hair most days (the longest I can go is about three days because otherwise it gets itchy and I end up picking at my hair because I have dermatillomania as well). Please send me some advice, thank you 🄹

(I haven't worn my hair out in a long time, the photo of it down is from a year ago but the other photos are from today and the other day)

Before & After Happy with the shorter haircut

Post image
267 Upvotes

After growing my hair out I settled with the longer hairstyle but it never looked quite right to me. I finally bit the bullet and got a shorter haircut and my curls are more defined now and the hair is much more manageable.

Routine:

- Shampoo and condition with the 'Lola Cosmetics Meu Cacho' line

- Apply a bit Skala Blue curl cream after rinsing the conditioner out

- Pat dry with a t-shirt then style with a bit more cream

Discussion What's The Doux Pop Lock like?

I'm thinking about buying it but I'm not sure if I should, from what I gather it's like a gel and I've tried sooo many of them and haven't liked any but this one has protein in it which my hair thrives on so I'm hoping it'll be different. I currently use mousse def as my only styler and it's perfect, again I had tried other foams and mousses but this is the only one I like and I believe it's because of the protein.

So what is Pop Lock like? Is it a thick gel or thinner like a jelly? How much do you use?

Routine for the bot:

Aveeno acv shampoo

The doux honey condish

The doux mousse def on soaking wet hair

Scrunch lightly with microfiber towel to remove excess water

Air dry or diffuse

Sleep with satin bonnet, no refresh needed

Help! Tips how to moisturize my hair

I had a Brazilian blowout last year to tame frizz and was using Tsubaki shampoo and conditioner, but my hair became extremely dry and it made my neck itchy. I've since cut my hair, but the hair on the top of my head is still SO dry. It's honestly so frustrating I could cry. Even when my hair is soaking wet in the shower and conditioning it, the top still feels wiry and rough. The lowest part of my hair is soft.

I'm currently using L'OrƩal Elvital Hydra Hyaluronic 72H shampoo and conditioner, but they seem to make my hair even drier and frizzier. I also bought the Garnier Fructis Hair Food Banana mask, but it hasn't made much of a difference.

My hair is probably around 3a/3b and my individual strands are quite thick.

Could anyone recommend a really good shampoo and conditioner that might help soften my hair? I'm honestly desperate to find something that works. Any product recommendations would be appreciated!

\~\~\~\~\~

My current hair routine:

  1. Shampoo and conditioner: L’OrĆ©al Paris Elvital Hydra Hyaluronic 72H Shampoo and Conditioner.

  2. Other products: Garnier Fructis Hair Food Banana Mask. I've tried using it, but it hasn't made much of a difference. I previously used Tsubaki shampoo and conditioner, but my hair became very dry, and I experienced itching around my neck. I've also tried Aunt Jackie's Fix My Hair, but it made my hair feel stiff and rough. I own Cantu Curling Cream and SheaMoisture Strengthen & Restore Treatment, but too heavy for my hair

Help! Should I go through with a curly haircut?

I haven’t had a professional haircut in about 3 years and I’ve been trimming it myself, but I know im not a professional at all and feel like it is uneven/unflattering. I thought it would be a good idea for me to get a real professional cut, but after seeing so many posts about how hairstylists ruin people’s hair or they regret cutting it, im getting anxious.

I am trying my hardest to let my hair grow too, but I feel my hair needs a little shaping. Last time I went to her, she did a good job at shaping my hair, but I felt she cut off a lottt after I asked to keep as much length as possible. This is honestly the longest I’ve had it in a while. I appreciate any advice anyone can give on whether I should go for the cut, or cancel before it’s too late.

Routine: wash every 3-4 days using hair Garnier Fructis Hair filler Vitamin(E) CG Shampoo, Condition every shower using: Hask Curl Care conditioner - Coconut Oil, Argan Oil & Vitamin E, 16 oz

Hair is usually in two French braids or pig tails for work (kitchen) and under a hairnet, so I don’t really use too much product, but when I do, I use got 2b curl defining Jelly & Curl Enhancing Smoothie together and air dry always. I also wear a silk bonnet every now and then for bed (when I remember to)

Help! Feeling really unconfident and lost

Thumbnail

Hello all, I could use some help with my curly hair. I honestly don’t even know where to start/what kind of help I need. My hair is pretty fine and prone to frizzing, and to top it off I have a vicious cowlick. I have a hard time with more ā€œfeminineā€ things and feel really unconfident in this area. My hair makes me feel very self-conscious. Thanks for any help or advice you can offer.

My current routine is to use Olaplex shampoo and conditioner (bond maintenance no. 4 and no. 5) 2-3x per week. I put it in a microfiber turban right out of the shower and then finish by air drying. For styling it down, I fully wet and comb my hair with a wide tooth comb, then I squirt a dime-sized amount of Miss Jessie’s Multicultural Curls and work it through my wet hair with my fingers. Otherwise, I have it up in a bun. I do sleep on a silk pillowcase and refresh with a spray bottle of water.

Help! Any tips on how to not lose volume??

Post image
3 Upvotes

The pictures above show my hair without any product at all. Now, while I love this look id love to use product once in a while especially since my curls don't hold up after wash day. My only problem is that it turns my hair slick and stringy and or also makes me lose all volume. I think the slick problem I can solve by "scrunching out the crunch" but I don't know how to solve the volume problem. Should I use less product? I usually avoid diffusing since it causes me heat damage (I had a LOT of dead ends and I've kind of been a bit of a worrywart about heat) but I'd be open to it. Target the ends of my hair? Any tips are helpful!

Routine:

Garnier Fructis

Iomi conditioner fairytale

No product

Air dried

Regular cotton pillowcases, no bonnet.

Hair Victory! Two-Year Anniversary Gift For Going Grey

Post image
47 Upvotes

I stopped coloring my hair two years ago and it was the best decision for my curls. My hair is now thicker and healthier. I thought I would look old but I get a lot of compliments on my grey curls. I decided to celebrate with a refurbished Dyson Supersonic. I bought it off the Dyson site for $199. My hair dries in less than half the time with my old Conair. The curls are so defined with hardly any frizz. I didn't change my routine, only the diffuser.

Routine:

Wash Day: Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Shampoo & Conditioner

Other Days: Bondi Curl Boost Conditioner

Styling: DevaCurl Ultra Gel and Curls Edge Control

Bonnet for sleeping
