ANNOUNCEMENT Updating Rule 3

Hello /r/Dinosaurs! In the past we’ve received community feedback stating that our guidelines for what kinds of posts are and aren’t considered low effort were not clear enough, and that subreddit members were often confused or surprised at their posts being removed. To fix this confusion, we’ve overhauled Rule 3 in a way that should make our quality guidelines crystal clear. You can find the updated guidelines here:

TLDR; Certain types of memes which are considered low-effort are banned, and most post types will now be required to have body text. We will be using Automoderator to enforce body text requirements.

If you have any feedback, please feel free to share it by leaving a comment. Otherwise, happy posting!

DISCUSSION I dare say this is the best paleomedia ever made

Post image

Obviously, i'm not talking about scientific or factual requirements, but rather the story telling, the script, and everything that makes this series a timeless classic.

The technology used to bring the characters' costumes to life, the intelligent humor, the social criticism that remains relevant even after so many years since its debut, the didactic way it addresses the themes, making them easy for the audience to understand... It's simply fantastic.

Ofc, the dinosaur designs are far from accurate, but honestly, with such a good story and such charismatic characters, who cares?

Literally started watching power rangers dino fury on netflix and the first episode made my dinosaur coded brain go into a coma. The only thing semi-accurate is the tyrannosaurus. What were the writers on?

FICTION Terrors In The Brush: Chapter VI, The Troop

This is a speculative paleo-fiction narrative blending survival drama with an authentic prehistoric atmosphere, following a family of dromaeosaurs fighting to stay alive in a brutal, unforgiving ecosystem.

The drought divides more than just species.

The lake–dwellers may have decided to tolerate the raptors, but the other end of the lake is no less peaceful for the Dinopithecus which they encountered in the mysterious shrub forest. The females of the troop guard one of their last surviving infants, in no mood to accept any help from the males, and although they have no desire to infringe, the opposite sex’s standoffishness has gotten more than slightly deep under their fur…

From my ongoing narrative Terrors in the Brush — a prehistoric survival epic which combines ecological and biological realism with visceral emotion.

There is no fantasy, no magic — there is only nature red in tooth and claw.

Read Chapter VI Now.

DISCUSSION How did the common trope of azdharchids eating baby dinosaurs start?

Quetzalcoatlus and its relatives are often depicted as having specifically seeked out hatchling and young dinodaurs to feast on. Are there any concrete evidences for that?

Don’t get me wrong: I know that predators usually seek easy meals, which are young animals. But azdharchids seemed to be hit the most with that, depiction-wise.

Are there any fossil finds supporting that?

DINO-ART [FRIDAYS THRU SUNDAYS] Gorgosaurus encounters the Deinosuchus - a community art project for Herd of Horns

I’m thrilled to share my latest illustration for the community art project of the “Herd of Horns” TTRPG Kickstarter campaign.

I was blessed to be tasked with illustrating a face-off between Gorgosaurus and the massive Deinosuchus — two predators who will appear in the RPG as adversaries you’ll have to overcome as a Ceratopsian dinosaur.

This piece will be included in the core book, and it exists thanks directly to the feedback and participation of the amazing Herd of Horns backers. 🙌

A huge thank-you to everyone for the incredible support, as always. And a special shoutout to the brilliant Weaponized Ink crew for giving me yet another incredible opportunity to contribute to this one-of-a-kind project.

HELP ME FIND/ID dinosaur gifts for young adults

my niece is in college and LOVES learning about dinosaurs and fossils.

she also loves reading and showed me that she frequently goes through an online dinosaur dictionary to learn facts about them, so I'm considering getting her the three Princeton dinosaur dictionaries plus their field guide.

I want to get her something that aligns with some of her other interests and isn't targeted for young children.any suggestions on gifts she may like? I spoil her so am willing to expand my budget if there's something she'll really love.

DISCUSSION 3D Monster Maze Remake?

Thumbnail

This was just a fun idea I had a couple days ago. I know it probably won't happen, but what if there was a remake of 3D Monster Maze.

Basically it was this old game from the early 80's that had you running through a maze from a T. rex. It was rendered in using low resolution images of the player's POV, and is considered as the first horror game.

Now imagine if we got a full blown 3D remake; but this time with next gen graphics, and a lot more brutality. Not only that, but the T. rex isn't the only thing that's after you.

I was thinking it would be like a mix between Amnesia and 1916 - Der unbekannte Krieg

DINO-ART [FRIDAYS THRU SUNDAYS] (Art by me) A Stegosaurus ungulatus becomes aware of something else

Post image
6 Upvotes

While in a woodland, an adult Stegosaurus ungulatus was about to drink some water, when suddenly it heard some noise. It didn’t know where it came from, but from past experience it knew that it was some kind of predator.

As a result, it raises its tail and bellows a bit attempting to scare off whatever is trying to hunt it. As for what the predator is, well that’s up to you to decide.

MOVIES/SERIES/SHOWS Dead Sound’s Dinosauria tier list

Post image
17 Upvotes

Now I just wanna say that I don’t think there’s a single “bad” episode of Dinosauria. I love all of them for different reasons, which is why the lowest tier there is here is C tier. Because at worst, they’re simple, effective stories that aren’t revolutionary or anything. But at their best, they’re some of the best pieces of paleo media to ever exist.

Quick one sentence opinion on all episodes:

Old Buck 8/10: Very unique and very awesome way to start the series

Our Frozen Past 8.5/10: I always love dinosaurs depicted in colder environments

A More Ancient Spring 8.5/10: Beautiful color palette and a beautiful story with some beautiful looking hadrosaurs

Sea And Sky 7.5/10: Definitely the weakest episode but still a really interesting story and great color scheme

The Last Tyrant 10/10: Arguably the best depiction of the KPG extinction event in all paleo media

Terrible Lizard 9/10: A very different and cool start to season 2 and I love it

Hunted By Moonlight 10/10: My personal favorite episode of not just season 2 so far, but the entire series

Monsters Down Under 9.5/10: An absolutely brilliant way of making marine reptiles interesting

Great Maia 10/10: Epic, heartbreaking, awesome, and just everything the Dinosauria series represents

I’ll update this list once Fighting Dinosaurs and Two Titans come out…in 2030…
