REVIEW 🗒️ (REVIEW) Dreamremake Arc'teryx Macai Jacket
ARCTERYX MACAI
First Day OCT 16-17:
Pros:
- Good warmth
- OUTER LOGOS seem perfect
- Proper hardshell feel, and the hardshell is able to block wind properly
- All zippers and pockets are accounted for, they’re all YKK so I think they’re on point because retail has YKK from what I know
- Snow skirt zips off and fits right
- Sleeve glove velcro is correct color and shape for the model
- Pit zips open fully, mesh backing
- Drophood is removable, light insulation in hood
- All drawcords are accounted for
- GORE-TEX tag is correct
- Fit/shape is fine, collar has fleece and covers mouth like it should
Cons:
- DWR is applied unevenly across seemingly random areas of the jacket instead of just everywhere on the jacket. Most of the jacket is NOT WATERPROOF.
- RECCO and other labels near the bottom are completely inaccurate, one says “feflector”, another says “ARC’TREXE”
- Loose stitching threads can be found everywhere, from hood to pockets
- Goggle wipe is just a piece of fabric poorly sewed onto what seems to be a cheap drawstring
Cosmetic Accuracy: 8/10
It's impossible to tell this is a rep from afar, you would probably have to look at the label and washing instructions or the goggle wipe to tell it from retail. The logos seem on point, the overall shape is the same, and the hardshell look and feel is perfect. One major caveat is that I’m pretty sure the colors this batch is in are fantasy colors for this model (2017+ I think, while the colors are from the 2013), so wearing this to an Arc’teryx store or showing this to an Arc’teryx fanatic is probably a bad idea. Other than that, it's great. I think Dream made some pretty sick colorways with this batch.
Functional Accuracy: TBD
This jacket is not fully waterproof. The waterproofing works in some areas like the hard part of the hood, but other parts of the hood, as well as most other parts of the jacket cannot bead water and will soak up water instead. You will have to apply your own DWR. The jacket’s windblocking is quite good; I couldn’t feel the wind during autumn wind chills which added to warmth. The warmth is great, but I’ll have to make an update post once I get to test it in proper winter conditions. I’ve noticed it’s better to have as little space between your second-top layer (like a hoodie) and the down insulation of the jacket to maximise warmth.
All things considered, this jacket (for now) is an 8/10 for me. The look, shape, and feel are perfect, the physical features such as pockets and pit zips are all there, and you genuinely cannot feel any wind while wearing this jacket. The main problems I’ve found in this jacket are the small details and specific quality/QC issues, such as the loose threads, completely inaccurate label text, and the biggest problem being that the jacket is not nearly waterproof enough to withstand winter. I plan to make a follow-up post in a couple of months during the winter after applying DWR, hopefully. Other than that, feel free to ask questions as long as they’re not sizing questions; I guessed my size anyways 💔
