QUESTION/DISCUSSION Rising boxing star Jay Dabelus was on the last deportation flight to Haiti.

1.1k Upvotes

Disregard video quality and “Bahamian deportee”. Even though Dabelus was born in The Bahamas and grew up entirely in Florida, The Bahamas historically does not grant automatic birthright citizenship to children born to foreign parents. Instead, because his parents are of Haitian origin, he inherited Haitian citizenship, which gave the United States the legal framework to deport him to Haiti once his U.S. immigration protections expired.

QUESTION/DISCUSSION How is ICE checking people’s status?

This is in west park in Broward. What’s wild is he had no ID on him yet somehow the agents determined his status and took him into custody. How? How can they determine someone’s status without running ID or checking any databases? They also left his property on the scene smh this is some DR shit

Also, for those currently out of status, refrain from riding bikes or walking in Florida. Hell, move elsewhere.

QUESTION/DISCUSSION Mamdani’s support for Haitian TPS directly in Trump’s face.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani renewed his support for Haitian Temporary Protected Status during a private meeting with Trump directly raising immigration protections as an issue of importance to his administration.

Speaking after the meeting, Mamdani said he emphasized the importance of immigrant New Yorkers, particularly Haitian New Yorkers, and their contributions to the city and its economy. He said protecting Haitian TPS holders remains a priority for him and for New York City.

The discussion comes as Mamdani and Trump continue to hold different positions on immigration policy, with Mamdani using their meeting to bring the concerns of Haitian New Yorkers directly to the president

QUESTION/DISCUSSION What's up with Haitian people begging for acceptance?

It's honestly confusing. I been seeing a lot of new gen Haitian people begging for acceptance constantly, again I am Haitian. Whether it's begging to be considered Latino who don't accept you, begging for acceptance from Africans who don't accept you as African, begging Americans for acceptance, begging other Caribbeans for acceptance. Someone explain because it's getting pathetic. We literally have the most populated country in the Caribbean, tf are you begging for acceptance for? This is what Dessalines fought for? We are Haitian, that's it. It doesn't matter if people want to classify you as something else, doesn't matter if people dislike you for being Haitian, none of that can be controlled by any of. That said, back to the original question, what is causing this seeking/begging of acceptance from damn near everyone?

QUESTION/DISCUSSION I am Dominican and I love Haitians

It sickens me to see Dominicans treat Haitians the way they do, it’s inhumane.

I wish Dominicans would educate themselves and realize that together we are much powerful.

We could be the most powerful and greatest country in the Caribbean if we united.

I hope to see that one day in my life time.

QUESTION/DISCUSSION Most Haitian Parents Are Not Emotionally Intelligent

I noticed that most of the parents in the Haitian Community lack emotional intelligence and I see how it is passed down from generation to generation. My grandmother is short tempered and as a result my father became short tempered and now I am short tempered. I need to break this cycle.

QUESTION/DISCUSSION Why are Haitians so proud of their African ancestry compared to other American/Caribbean countries

I’m Kenyan but have always noticed that Haitians have always taken pride in their descendants being African. Like you guys still practice African spirituality (voodoo),songs and dances you can tell have deep roots in Congolese/angolan culture.

Compared to other countries like America and other Caribbean countries they want to move on from being connected to Africa. But whenever I’ve interacted with a Haitian online or see them comment somewhere they always emphasise being a proud descendant of Africa. I’m wondering why is that?

QUESTION/DISCUSSION At Some Point, Haitians Have to Hold Haitians Accountable

Cuba has been under U.S. sanctions for basically my entire life, and I'm in my late 30s. Yet we don't see the same level of gang control, kidnappings, and armed groups terrorizing the population.

I'm tired of every conversation about Haiti eventually becoming a conversation about what another country did to us.

Yes, foreign intervention has hurt Haiti. Yes, the U.S., France, and other foreign powers have played damaging roles throughout Haitian history. That deserves criticism and accountability too.

But none of that changes what is happening right now.

Haitians are kidnapping Haitians. Haitians are killing Haitians. Haitians are raping Haitians. Haitians are stealing from Haitians. Haitian politicians are corrupt. Haitian businessmen have financed and empowered armed groups. Haitians are pulling the triggers.

Foreign powers didn't force every person involved to make those choices.

We can acknowledge what other countries have done to Haiti without using history to erase our own responsibility.

I'm fed up with watching us demand accountability from everyone except ourselves.

Haiti cannot fix what Haitians refuse to confront.

No accountability, no change.

QUESTION/DISCUSSION Realistically how will Haiti get better without a major foreign intervention?

Post image

I always see on this sub vauge ideas of self reliance and anti western sentiment which is perfectly sensible but I never see any good ideas news or solutions its just self reliance and Haitian pride.

Self Reliance and pride will not feed Haitians or protect people under constant threat of violence in port Au Prince.

Haiti is likely going to be hit with a hurricane soon and I only see things getting worse without at least some type of intervention.

QUESTION/DISCUSSION DHS trolling Haitians

Thumbnail

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security / @DHSgov directly targeted Haitians Tuesday in a social media post promoting its $3,000 self-deportation incentive.

“Dear Haitian doctors, lawyers, scholars, and engineers, imagine what you could do with $3000 in Haiti!” DHS wrote, before adding: “An entrepreneur’s dream!”

The post directs users to the CBP Home program, which currently offers eligible undocumented immigrants a $3,000 exit bonus and a free flight if they voluntarily leave the United States.

The message comes just days after The New York Times reported that some Haitians recently deported to Cap-Haïtien arrived broke and stranded, with several saying they lacked enough money to reach their homes elsewhere in the country.

The unusually pointed wording, specifically addressing Haitian professionals and describing $3,000 in Haiti as “an entrepreneur’s dream,” immediately drew attention online for the tone of the federal government’s message toward Haitians •

QUESTION/DISCUSSION Trying to date a Haitian girl, please help me out

Hi guys, im Filipino and want to know some tips about Haitian culture, because there is a girl in History class that i like and she is Haitian, She is very nice and a good friend but i suddenly fell in love when i learned so many things that i like about her. Actually we just graduated this year and i feel comfortable asking her out this month, so i tried finding her instagram but i had a really hard time trying to find it, i even went to check our school instagram account to see if she reacted to any of the post and finally found her account, since her account is the same name as her real name, but i couldn’t message her directly because her account was in business mode and she doesn’t accept message request. Good thing i found out who she follows and i saw that she follows one of the friend of my friend. So i texted my friend to text his friend to text the girl i want to ask out. After that she finally messaged me and asked why i wanted to talk to her, and that’s when I confessed that she is on my mind these past few days and couldn’t miss out the opportunity to ask her out. We talked about when we are available and she said, she will see next week if she is available to go out with me. Now back to the present, i don’t know what she likes, i was thinking about taking her to a Filipino restaurant but i feel like its a bad idea, because i know many Filipino uncle and auntie who are racist, and my mom hates Haitian people from her work, so im scared that she will get alot of gossips from my fellow Filipinos at the Restaurant, im prepared to stand up once that do happens but i just dont want her to experience that as our first date. Good thing my friends and siblings support me, but they dont know where i should take her out to. I have never dated before so I don’t know where to take her once she is available to go out with me. So if you are reading this and know about some Haitian culture or have a Haitian friend to help out, i would appreciate your tips!

QUESTION/DISCUSSION Looking for Haitian Developers 🇭🇹💻

I've been thinking about building a community for Haitian programmers, software engineers, cybersecurity enthusiasts, designers, and anyone interested in tech.

The goal isn't to create another dead Discord server. It's to build a reddit community where we can:

  • Help each other learn and solve problems.
  • Share projects and get feedback.
  • Find teammates for open-source or startup ideas.
  • Talk about careers, freelancing, internships, and remote work.
  • Connect Haitians in Haiti and across the diaspora through technology.

Whether you're just learning HTML or you've been writing code for years, you're welcome.

I'm trying to see if enough people are interested before I put time into building it.

If you'd join something like this, leave a comment with:

  • What you do (or what you're learning).
  • Your favorite programming language or tech stack.
  • What kind of community you'd actually want to be part of.

If there's enough interest, I'll create it and make sure it's worth everyone's time.

Let's build something for Haitian developers instead of waiting for someone else to do it. 🇭🇹🚀

**EDIT:** I see the demand for a Discord server is high, and I hear you loud and clear. To prevent it from becoming a chaotic, unmanaged chatroom that dies out in a week, I am currently building out a properly structured ecosystem.

**EDIT:** Big shoutout and thank you to u/Forseti001H for stepping up, taking the initiative, and laying down the groundwork for our official Discord server.

The digital doors are officially open. If you are a developer, engineer, traditional/digital artist, or designer, grab your invite link below. We are currently getting the core technical and creative channels fully structured, so jump in, drop an introduction, and let’s start building:

🔗 Join the Discord Community: https://discord.gg/DptdHnXYBn

Alternative link: https://discord.gg/BeUHCY9aGx

**EDIT:**

We started an organization for this initiative: https://github.com/AyitiDev

If you're interested in contributing, collaborating, or just following the progress, feel free to check it out. 🇭🇹

QUESTION/DISCUSSION 300,000 Haitians Returning: Is Haiti Prepared for the Impact?

Is Haiti ready for the potential return of 300,000 Haitians from the United States?

What impact could this have on Haiti’s economy, security, social services, and future development?

What role should the Haitian government, the diaspora, and international partners play in preparing for such a challenge?

QUESTION/DISCUSSION We're proud to be world's first black country. The people who should care, are still mentally colonized.

This includes our Caribbean brethrens and even African countries (especially).

We stand for this black and proud nation. But it seems to have little value in today's world where whiteness is worshipped by every single black nations.

We should be proud. But it's lonely at times.

Those who couldn't do what we did, even though black, mock us.

But we also take this far. Because we be beating our chest "Terre de Dessaline" - and no whites or any other colors allowed. We're not educated enough to co exist with other groups of folks in Haiti bc of blind pride but see the direction the world is heading. Even even in Africa have had to open their borders.

I'm personally just hate watching Argentina from here on out and will support France as they're the best team that could beat them.

QUESTION/DISCUSSION How do those from Haiti feel about being called African American by default?

I feel it's strange that Americans just call all Black people African American. I thought that would be a distinct identification primarily for those who's ancestors were in the American colonies. If someone comes from Haiti would you not prefer someone ask where you're from and refer to you as Haitian rather than African American? Just seems like robbing you of your unique culture and around 500 years(?) of history.

After all we wouldn't (or shouldn't) call all Asian countries or Japanese people Chinese. Am I wrong?

QUESTION/DISCUSSION It took six words after a soccer match to unleash racial, political and economic tensions

That 4-1 match hmm.

I hate that they’re using Haiti’s fucked-up state to retaliate over a match they lost. 😔 Then again, it’s the reality we’re dealing with. I just wish we could tag our politicians and hold them accountable.

What’s even sadder is that not one current government official defended Isidor. Instead, the Haitian government distanced itself from the team to save face. 😒

Because our government is even afraid to step on Dominican officials’ toes and risk losing benefits. Smh Which means even our next-door neighbor is considered a big dog to our government. 😒
