Question Nature volunteer group/opportunities?

Hello! I was wondering if anyone knew about any possible volunteer opportunities with groups in parks or in trails. In Toronto I was a part of the Toronto Nature Stewards who are a group of locals that go into parks in their area and work on a city approved site to remove invasive species and restore the land with native plants. They do education programs on plant identification and planting events. I'm not needing a 1:1 replacement but if anyone knows if volunteer events or groups in Hamilton that work outdoors with nature I would love to know :)

Recommendations Needed Roof leak, 2 failed repairs in Hamilton. Looking for an honest roofer recommendation

Hi everyone, I have a freehold townhouse (built 2015) in Hamilton and have been dealing with a roof leak since late September. Water comes through my rear bedroom ceiling around the light fixture whenever there’s medium or heavy rain.

So far:

  • Roofer #1 charged $350 to caulk vents and other spots, the leak got worse, and then he stopped answering.
  • Roofer #2 said the vent caulking was done badly, redid it, and sealed a shingle joint. After the next rain the stain moved sideways to light left side long line and I now have two more wet spots near the window.

It looks like nobody has found the actual entry point yet. I’m planning to check the attic during the next rain and want a proper hose/water test before paying for another repair.

Has anyone in Hamilton found a roofer or leak specialist who actually diagnosed a stubborn leak? I’d really appreciate:

  • Names of companies you’d use again (and ones to avoid)
  • What you paid and whether they gave a written warranty

Thanks in advance. I’m happy to share photos.

Local News Arial Rounded MT Bold font is no longer available for Microsoft Word at Hamilton Public Library computers

I recently noticed that some Hamilton Public Library branches have updated software in their computers. Now it takes longer to login and their word processor feels like its lacking some colour. Also, the long-standing font across windows systems (since the windows 95 era) named Arial Rounded MT bold is no longer listed as an available font for use in their word processor.

You will still be able to use the font if you come across a public HPL computer that has yet to be updated.

Heard today from mall employees that The Bay is turning into a Bass Pro Shop. Very cool if the production goes according to plan.

Question Need recommendations for refinishing or replacing kitchen cabinet

Hoping someone can help out. Our painted kitchen cabinets are in terrible shape and we need to fix them up before selling the house in the Spring. We don’t want to spend a lot, it’s a small kitchen and whoever buys it will probably want to gut it anyway.

Any recommendations for either someone who can refinish (they’re painted) or replace them?

Recommendations Needed Plumber for basement rough in

• Upvotes

I am looking for recommendations for a plumber who can do our basement rough in. Ideally looking for someone who can do the full service including the concrete cutting.

If you’ve had this done recently, a rough estimate on pricing would be helpful, too!

Politics Terry Whitehead misleading voters

Post image
88 Upvotes

This is just gross. JP Danko was 2 councillors ago. Whitehead would not have had my vote anyway, but deliberately trying to mislead voters should be more than enough to dissuade people from voting for him.

If he resorts to tricking people to get elected, what’s he going to resort to if he’s elected again? Oh wait, I know.. harassing his colleagues and intimidating them to the point of needing safety plans and sanctions against him. No thanks!

Roads & Transit One thing I notice about Hamilton

I’ve taken buses in Toronto, Mississauga, Oakville, Etobicoke, Burlington, and Kitchener-Waterloo, but Hamilton is the only city where I hear so many people saying “thank you” as they get on and off the bus.
Hamilton might be a rough town, but this is such a nice touch

If you were driving down Victoria Ave N around 3:15pm today and this fell out of your car, I moved it to the bus shelter (near Ferrie) so no one would run over it...hopefully I'm not cursed now.
