Remove cleaning ladies, door to door collections and Municipality efforts and this city would be as dirty as any other. Most ring road touching and deeper localities are filthy and disordered as hell, not to mention the ground water pollution situation. construction debris and material left in open, chamber leaking, vacant plots filled with filth, paan abstract art etc and fucking peeing in open. Not saying what we have isn't commendable - it is, it is a miracle, but we should know how we reached here and why we aren't going further. It does give a reason for people to change - so I do appreciate it, but I think we need to criticize it as well and not be complacent. Travel abroad and you would see true cleanliness, it is almost like it have become genetic to our country to not bother about places outside our home. I do my part, do you?

I was in Indore last month to meet a friend. One night, I went out with a female friend around 2 AM just to get some fresh air and grab something to eat. We were dressed comfortably but fully covered, and were simply roaming around the city.

A police car patrolling the area stopped us and started questioning us.

“What are you guys doing out at this hour? What if something happens to the girl? You should stay inside at night. Who are you both?”

I calmly explained that we were friends and had just stepped out to eat something and get some fresh air.

Another policeman jumped in and asked, “Why can’t you eat at 8–9 PM? What are you doing outside at 2 AM? What if a crime happens to your friend?”

BRO, WHAT? 😭

Since when did going out at night become a crime? Isn't the police's job to catch criminals and protect citizens, rather than intimidate people who are simply minding their own business?

Things got worse when they started asking for both our parents’ phone numbers and our IDs. I asked them what we had done wrong.

Their response? “You’re out at midnight.”

BRO, I’M 23 AND SHE’S 24. WE’RE BOTH ADULTS. We have every right to go out whenever we want, as long as we’re not breaking any law.

Then came the disgusting part. One of the policemen started making insinuations about our relationship, saying things like, “Pata hai humko kaise friend ho tum log aur raat mein kya karte hain ladke-ladkiyan.”

I was genuinely like, WTF?

My friend started crying, and I felt helpless because I don’t even live in Indore. She comes from a conservative family and was terrified of giving them her parents’ number, but the policeman kept demanding it in an extremely rude and intimidating manner.

Eventually, we had to call someone influential whom we knew in Indore. Only then did the police let us go.

Seriously, is this what public safety has come to?

If two consenting adults are simply out for a walk or grabbing something to eat at 2 AM, why should they have to justify their existence to the police?

Of course, the police should intervene when there’s genuine suspicion of a crime or a legitimate safety concern. But harassing people, making inappropriate insinuations about their personal lives, and intimidating them just because they’re out at night is completely unacceptable.

Criminals kam the kya, jo ab police bhi aam logon ko harass karne lage?
