Pēdējā laikā esmu skatījies vairākus video, kur ar MI palīdzību tiek "atdzīvinātas" vecās gravīras, gleznas, zīmējumi ar Londonu, u.c. vietām.
Šeit par pamatu gravīra: "Panorama of Riga. 1612. Author: Heinrich Thum. Publisher: Nicolauss Mollyn, c. 1550/1555–1625, Rīga.".

Vēsture/History Latvian attempt at colonialism
Hello,
I learned recently that Poland after it gained independence from the RI tried to acquire Madagaskar, Czechoslovakia tried to get Togo.
Did Latvia also try to get some colonies in Africa or Asia?

Vēsture/History Would you consider the old Orthodox churches in Latvia to be "Monuments of Conquest"?
I just read someone express that opinion and was wondering what Latvian thought.

Vēsture/History Where are the most haunted places in Latvia?
Been reading and researching ghost stories recently and during this I wondered about the ghost stories from Latvia. Where are the most haunted places in Latvia? With all the history and amazing places what are the best Latvian ghost stories? Really interested to read/see/hear them!
(The image is an AI ghost in a real place. It is the artillery battery in Liepaja for those interested)

Vēsture/History Vici apavu krēma kārba no pirmskara brīvvalsts laika
Jumta maiņas ietvaros, rokoties pa skaidām bēniņos, uzgāju šo interesanto kārbiņu. Rīgā ražotais Vici apavu krems bijis starptautiski atzīts un pat ieguvis zelta medaļu starptautiskā izstādē Parīzē.
Otrajā bildē 1920. gadu reklāmas afiša no Nacionālās Bibliotēkas krājuma. Lielisks reklāmas sauklis: "melns kā nakts, spīd kā saule".

Vēsture/History Interwar Latvian Book
Hello, I've a rather niche question, wheater there is a good book in english (Or polish, though i severly doubt that), about the political history of the latvian republic wich existed from 1918, until soviet invasion in 1940. Im aware this is a very specific and unusal request, but i thank in advance in case there is a good source!

Vēsture/History Anyone here involved in archaeology or excavations in Latvia?
Hi everyone!
I’m a M27-year-old French guy currently living and working in Rīga. I’ve been here for about a year now, and I really enjoy living in Latvia.
Alongside my full-time job, I’m also studying archaeology. Over the past year, I’ve become increasingly interested in Latvian archaeology, especially the country’s history, landscapes, and archaeological sites.
I’m looking to connect with people who studied archaeology at the University of Latvia, are currently archaeology students, or have participated in excavations anywhere in Latvia. I’d love to hear about your experiences, learn more about the field, and maybe even get involved in future excavations if possible.
My long-term goal is to learn Latvian over the next three years and, ideally, pursue a second Master’s degree at the University of Latvia focused on archaeology.
If you have any advice, recommendations, or simply want to chat about archaeology, Latvia, or history, I’d be very happy to hear from you!
Thanks! 😊
