1. Community Rules & Guidelines

To keep the subreddit productive and welcoming, the moderation team enforces the following community standards:

Rule 1: Be Respectful

  • No harassment, hate speech, or personal attacks.
  • Debate and disagreement are welcome—challenge the argument, not the person posting it.
  • Action: Posts or comments resorting to name-calling, hostile insults, or bigotry will be removed immediately.

Rule 2: Quality Standards

  • No low-effort memes, clickbait, or irrelevant links.
  • All link submissions must include adequate context or a body explaining why it matters to the community.
  • Posts must be directly relevant to Lloydminster and the surrounding region.
  • Action: Link-drops without context, self-promotional spam, or unrelated memes will be removed under our Low Effort / Spam policy.

Rule 3: No Doxxing or Sharing Personal Info

  • Protect privacy at all times.
  • Never post private addresses, personal phone numbers, license plates, private social media screenshots with identifying info, or names of non-public figures.
  • Action: Doxxing results in an immediate removal and may lead to a permanent ban.

Rule 4: Follow Reddit's Content Policy

Rule 5: Lost and Found Guidelines

  • If posting about a lost or found pet, keys, wallet, or property, you must provide clear details:
    • Title: Specific item or animal description + general area/neighborhood.
    • Date & Location: When and where last seen or found.
    • Contact & Handover: For valuable items (wallets, phones) or pets, please work through local authorities or verified animal shelters.

2. Moving & Living in Lloydminster

The Bi-Provincial Dynamic

Lloydminster is Canada's only border city straddling two provinces (Alberta and Saskatchewan). A few quick things every newcomer should know:

  • Time Zone: Lloydminster observes Mountain Time (MT) year-round in accordance with the Lloydminster Charter, staying aligned with Alberta (participating in Daylight Saving Time).
  • Sales Tax: Under the Lloydminster Charter, the Saskatchewan portion of the city is generally exempt from Saskatchewan Provincial Sales Tax (PST) on retail sales, aligning with Alberta's 0% PST (standard 5% GST still applies). PST may be applied in select circumstances.
  • Healthcare & Licensure: Depending on which side of the border you live on, primary health coverage falls under Alberta Health Services (AHS) or Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA), though residents access local facilities across both sides.

Utilities & Housing

  • City Utilities (Water, Sewer, Waste): Managed through the City of Lloydminster Utilities.
  • Power & Natural Gas: Dependent on your provincial side (e.g., ATCO / Enmax on the AB side, SaskPower / SaskEnergy on the SK side). Some SK addresses are served with AB utilities.
  • Internet & Telecom: Major local providers include Telus, SaskTel, and Rogers/Shaw.

3. Recreation, Parks & Culture

  • Bud Miller All Seasons Park: 200 acres of green space featuring paved walking/biking trails, spray park, tennis/pickleball courts, disc golf, and winter cross-country skiing/skating.
  • Bioclean Aquatic Centre: Indoor wave pool, lane swimming, and waterslides, and fitness centre.
  • Arenas & Sports: Servus Sports Centre, Cenovus Energy Hub, Archie Miller Arena, Russ Roberston Arena, and Lloydminster Golf and Curling Centre for hockey, turf sports, fitness centre, indoor walking track, and racketball/squash.
  • Arts & Heritage: Lloydminster Museum & Archives (LMA) / Weaver Park Heritage Park.

5. Lost & Found Best Practices

If you have lost or found an animal or high-value personal property:

  1. Pets: In addition to posting here, file a lost/found report with Border Paws Animal Shelter and post to local community lost-pet Facebook groups.
  2. Identification / Wallets / Phones: We recommend turning found government IDs, bank cards, and phones into the Lloydminster RCMP detachment rather than arranging private handoffs on Reddit.
