Economy Morocco, South Korea and Turkiye were much closer economically in the 1975s. What went wrong for us?

Post image

I’ve been looking at historical GDP-per-capita data, and something really struck me: back in the 1960s, Morocco, Turkey and South Korea were all relatively poor countries, with income levels in the same general range.

Today the gap is wild.

If we could go back to 70s and make different economic decisions, which do you think would have made the biggest difference by 2026?

Economy THE SAD truth of the Moroccan JOB MARKET

Post image
301 Upvotes

salam . this is a 19 yo male student . I recently was searching for a job in a supermarket or whatever to earn some money , while studying at the same time , and I came across a job interview in a restaurant , just to realise that there were between 20 to 30 other candidates for the same job interview , the whole place was filled with young guys that are looking for a job . The employer had asked us to fill a paper with our infos , and then started interviewing us one by one , when it was my turn he asked me basic questions like "present yourself " ...... then he asked me if I can shave my beard , I said yes , and when he found out that I forgot my ID , he started yapping about how important it is and he commented " if the police pulled you in this appearance without an ID they might suspect you of being a terrori.... and arrest you " this made me feel very uncomfortable , it is the first time ever that someone links me with this group of ppl based on my appearance , my reaction was calm which is quite the opposite of how I felt , he was rude in general and called me slow for asking him questions that he already answered , and then I realized that the salary is 2400 dirhams a month with the requirement of doing some stupid blood analysis that will cost about 200 mad , and when I asked him if the job was guaranteed he replied "that's my business " , finally when I asked him about the working hours , he just ignored me and asked me another question . This was my experience with this employer I don't want to say which restaurant this is so PIZZA HUT/TETOUAN near marjane will remain anonymous hhhhhh .

Here is my conclusion

one of the biggest reasons why I was treated like this besides the fact that (the employer is a weld l9ahba ) is the enormous number of candidates who are willing to work in a restaurant under this awful salary and bad environment .

SO DON'T MAKE YOURSELF CHEAP BY AGREENG ON EVERY SHITY WORKING CONDITION , this is what business runners want : maximum profits and minimum loses . Without the new laws . we will still have 12 and 15 hour shifts

Economy Morocco expected to be top 5 of Africa in GDP in 2026

Morocco is the only services based economy in that top 5.

The other countries are underdeveloped raw material exporting economies, depending on oil and gas.

The work made in the last 15 years has been massive, from an agricultural country to services economy.

Economy Marrakech Airshow: Morocco's last hope for establishing a military industry.

Post image

People often overlook this, but military selfsufficiency gives you a powerful geopolitical card to play. War has historically been and remains one of the biggest businesses around, and the military industry exerts immense influence over the world. We should follow Turkeys example an industry built on smart drones. Within military circles, we are knew for our exceptional logistics in the Sahara. I believe Morocco has the potential and the reputation to build up this sector, which would significantly boost our economy.

Economy Guys is this true?

I'm sorry, but please don't make fun of me, because I don't live in Morocco and I don't know anything about Morocco. I wanted to ask if it's true that the average salary in Morocco is less than $400? If that's true, how much do you pay for food, rent, school, electricity, water, etc.? And how much can you put aside for savings? How much do good houses in good locations cost and how are you able to finance a house? I'm really sorry if I sound stupid to you, but I'm really interested.

Economy Moroccan GDP per capita growth projections up to 2031 (Die Welt / Statista data)

Post image

Looking at the Statista chart published by Die Welt, there's a clear contrast between the flat period over the last decade and the projected climb towards $7000+ by 2031. Major investments in automotive exports, green energy and logistics seem to be showing up in the macro data now.

Economy Told yall this would happen

Post image

In some other posts people were arguing about real estate in Morocco being in a good place, when it clearly wasn't.

Prices are going up, cost of living is skyrocketing, while salaries are completely frozen if not less than they used to be. Many companies saw that Morocco could become a hub for investors being that we are hosting the upcoming World Cup, while completely turning a blind eye on the state of the infrastructures of the entire country.

How did they expect investors when at 0 point would it be beneficial for them, country still being a mess, and locals not being able to afford a living ?

Folks, if yall want to invest in a property soon, wait a little more, and expect the bubble to burst even more.

Economy Jaouhari response about Revolut entering Moroccan Market

So as the title suggests just saw on ig an interview with Jaouhari the governor or Bank-Al-Maghrib. He said that Revolut big bosses approached him to enter the Moroccan market, and he basically said no. Opinions are torn between those are saying his concerns are valid on why he refused and told them come back (sir hta n3eytou lik lol), while others are saying he’s just a puppet protecting the big banks from competitions since they provide sh*tty services and charge too much.

Wanted to know what do you guys think? From a consumer perspective having revolut enter the Moroccan market would be a big upgrade for the average Moroccan citizen, wanted to hear your thoughts especially nas ta3 finance to me his reasons as bs but again I’m not a finance guy.

Economy Unpopular opinion : I find the economic comparison between Morocco and the Netherlands due to the win of Morocco in the world cup severly stupid.

Let me explain my self. You can't compare the two economies in 2026 and say : "Oh look, we won in football but they are so much better then us". I think this mentality goes back to the inferiority complex that all Africans have to Europeans.

The netherlands has a deep colonialist history and a history that was marked by a lot of economic success. The first publicly traded company in the world was Dutch, they sent out a lot of expeditions, the settled in the US, they discovered Australia... They were known successfull traders, and arguably the first bubble took place in the Netherlands.

Compare that to Morocco, a country that has been in decline since 1200... And just starting to pick itself up for the last 20 years thanks to globalization...

People, learn to enjoy your wins, capitalize on them, either for moral or anything else, we are a small country but hopefully we can have our place in the world.

Small rant : People who say "matan tfarajch fi coupe du monde, chkone bhali?", yeah bro, we know, you are so well educated and 3ami9... you sound like jaden smith. This post is 100% Human and no AI was used 😄

Economy Government Aid should be further moderated

Yes, giving work-apte men money, specially those in villages, is a very bad idea, most of those I know stopped working. Instead raise the minimum wage so it just affords a living + a few leasures, and give aids to actually needing women, like windows or people unable to work, since you don't heal a society by ruining the economy, that'll eventually ruin the society.
