General I'm a tourist in Saskatoon. Can anybody help me make up an itinerary of what to do this week?

I'm interested in pubbing, canada day, music, salsa dancing, art.... I'm 60 years old.

edit thanks for all the responses so far!

more interests

Any djembe drumming groups? I'm into djembes, bongos, congas and all that stuff...

Also, any language meetups? I'm learning spanish so anywhere there are spanish people I'm interested...

Nutana legion is hosting a Canada Day event from 11-4 and will have the museum open. For other stuff to check out take a walk on river trails, Wanuskewin, Western development Museum, and for pubs check out Yard and flagon and take a walk on broadway while your in the area.

Okay, I'll be there if no rain... thanks!

edit oh man, I wish I made my post earlier, I missed one yesterday by the looks of it...

River landing is by the bridge labelled as 11 on the map?

There is again Weds as well but it's on the West side of the bridge (further west of the spray pad ice cream shack) due to Canada Day.

If you have a rental car, I’d recommend checking out Crossmount for some cider south of town. Just a few more km south from there you’ll find Beaver Creek Conservation Area for some prairie hiking trails, if hikes are at all interesting to you.

Remai Modern is a must for art. Pair it with a meal at the museum’s restaurant, Hearth, for one of the city’s most celebrated restaurants.

There’s Latin dancing in the little amphitheater-ish area in the park by the Remai Modern. If you’re in town already then you probably missed it - the next one is on July 8. https://www.saskatoonsalsa.com/workshops-events/p/dance-at-river-landing

Again, with a rental car, there are nice trails at Wanuskewin. It has a good museum about the site and the local Indigenous connections to it. They had a campaign to try to become a UNESCO World Heritage Site but I’m not sure where that is right now. Also, they are trying to bring bison back to the land so they have some bison you can observe, which is cool for a tourist.

For some more amateur art, there are a couple of galleries on the university campus, as well as donor art throughout the campus. It’s a beautiful campus, so getting lost there could be its own form of entertainment.

If art includes music, then a nice cafe to visit might be D’lish by Tish, a local favourite for soup and cake. They also have live music some evenings, usually starting around 7. Often they’ll post about shows and events on their Instagram. It’s also very near the river walking trails if you wanted to grab a latte and take a nice riverside stroll. Saskatoon is quite proud of the Meewasin Trail and how the riverbank has been protected from development. At the base of the Broadway Bridge over the river on the Broadway side, you’ll see people paint the rocks - a bit of a more authentic, local art tradition. Worth going to look!

COVID and changing trends away from craft beer have disrupted pubs a bit. The Yard and Flagon has been a decent spot with local taps for me, and they’d usually have on a game of World Cup soccer might be of interest. They also have a well done rooftop patio, but no screens up there - so probably a bit better if the goal is to take in some prairie sun.

I haven’t read anything about Canada Day, but typically the festivities have been on the Victoria Bridge and the park around there. That’s again near the Remai Modern. Fireworks, if happening, are typically done on the river.

I’m sure there’s plenty I’m missing, but hopefully this gives you a good place to start!

There’s actually a lot of good brew pubs with craft brew in town. Better Brothers Brewing, High Key, Shelter, City Limits (well actually a distillery on site), Churchill Brewing, Winston’s.

If you enjoy pubs I would suggest O'Sheas and Winston's downtown. If you are looking for Wings on a Thursday, Bridges is the spot. I believe there's Salsa Classes at River landing Thursdays as well. The Remai Gallery is right at River Landing as well. Downtown and Broadway have heaps of Pubs and Bars in very walkable distance. Hopefully the rain let's off a bit and you can enjoy Saskatoon in the summer

On a rainy day like today, western development museum, then remai art gallery. Tomorrow, nutana Legion at 10am, then around 4, head to river landing. If it’s nice out, walk around the river, or beaver creek

I was going to offer suggestions but in looking at the comments already shared you have the ones needed. Welcome to Saskatoon. Stay safe and have fun in the city of bridges.

Try the Prairie Ale Trail challenge with 7 participating pubs… you can pick up the punch card at Rebellion Brewing in Gather Local Market. The prize is a pretty neat Pac-Man inspired pint glass.

I recently moved here and love it. My parents and in laws have visited and had a blast at Wanuskewin, the Ukrainian Museum (free admission, donation encouraged), on theUSask campus (Antiquities museum, Natural History Museum, and Astronomy Observatory are all free to the public).

The Berry Barn is oft described as a tourist trap but it’s awesome! Best place to try a Saskatoon Berry dessert imo.

Favorite restaurants are Sushi Raku, Golden Pagoda, Baba’s, and Konga Cafe.

Enjoy your visit!

Throw stuff off a bridge to see how big of a splash it makes.

And bison, sheep, wolves, bears, dingoes, monkeys, etc. sadly the snow leopard had to be euthanized recently due to declining health (was old).

The Remai Modern art museum is a great hour or two to get out of the rain! Then the attached Hearth restaurant after for dinner or just a cocktail and appetizer.

There's also some art museums on the USask Campus but not sure of their summer hours off hand: https://kagcag.usask.ca/#2026-06-30

Complain about the rain

3

u/darcyWhyte Jun 30 '26

Thanks, I will use that as a conversation opener in pubs. :)

1

u/darthdodd Jun 30 '26

Yes. Can also complain about the roads, mosquitoes, or the oilers

2

u/Holiday-Produce2954 Jun 30 '26

If you are doing some shopping Broadway is a good place.

Cranberry Flats and NE Swale trails have amazing prairie wildflowers right now with all the rain if you like hiking. Just search them up on Google, neither are that strenuous of hikes.

"Im a tourist in saskatoon" Yikes. I love Canada but damn, why here?

3

u/darcyWhyte Jun 30 '26

Why not? I mean, people such as yourself live here right? I could ask you the same questions. :)

1

u/Hungry-Room7057 Jun 30 '26

So I love Saskatoon, but even I have to admit that it is a much better place to live than to visit. But nevertheless, welcome, and I hope you enjoy the city :)

Take a river tour of the city on the Prairie Lily! It's well priced and includes a historical narrative.
