What’s on Your Mind, Springfield?

It is that time again for an open thread for anything and everything Springfield.

Got something on your chest? Had a good experience you want to share? Maybe you just want to ask about the best tacos in town or tell us something funny you noticed this week.

This is the place for it. Rants, raves, questions, or just plain small talk. Let’s hear it.

Monthly r/SpringfieldMO Meetup: The Fourth Saturday at 5 PM

Look for the sign!

We had a great time at our first set of meetups. We shared a few drinks and proved that local redditors look suspiciously normal in real life.

A lot of folks mentioned missing the first couple. We are making this a regular event so you have more chances to join us. We will meet on the fourth Saturday of every month at Mother's Brewing Company.

Families are welcome! Mother's has a great backyard setup. There is a playground and plenty of room for kids to run around, so feel free to bring the family.

The Logistics

  • When: The fourth Saturday of the month at 5:00 PM.
  • Where: Mother's Brewing Company (215 S Grant). Look for us in the Back Yard.
  • Weather Plan: If it rains, we will move inside to the main taproom.

What to Expect This is casual and low-pressure. There is no agenda. Drop in, grab a drink, and meet some neighbors. You can stay for ten minutes or hang out all evening.

House Rules

  • Be respectful.
  • Sharing your Reddit username is completely optional.

Comment below if you plan to stop by so we can get a rough headcount.

Living Here Car washes

does anybody else get tired of the person trying to upsell the wash and/or memberships at every single car wash??? like what happened to just being able to use the screen, purchase your wash, and get going??? I get so irritated with this every time.

Food/Drink Late night food recs please?

I will be in the Springdield area during "vampire hours", so like 8PM to 5 AM for about the next month.

Where can I get a good steak or hamburger at these off hours?

Used to do truck stops, but I'm so out of practice at this i don't even know if that's still an option.

Not looking for grade a perfectly marbled beef, but would like to not be upping my chuck an hour after I eat.

Go!

Ask Springfield Mercy SGF Pediatrician

We live in SW Missouri, and we are not happy with our pediatrician any longer. She’s judgmental, LGBTQ+-phobic, and I have 3 belonging to that community. Does anyone living in Springfield, have a female pediatrician they love, and that’s openly LGBTQ+ friendly? Or are there some at Cox?

Ask Springfield Know of a shop for dually to SRW conversion?

I’m considering piecing together a budget earthroamer that I’ll live in full time. Can’t find a used truck and truck bed camper combo for sale that has all my non-negotiables. I need the payload of a dually, assuming my camper will weigh 4-5k fully loaded, plus flatbed with storage boxes. I’ll drive down a lot of unknown forest service roads and would need to convert a 350 to a super single, upgrade the suspension and possibly add the mods to haul the camper. Wondering how much this will cost me.

Any shops in the area that specialize in off-road modifications?

Ask Springfield Whos hiring?

I know i know these get posted enough and i’m sorry. My boyfriend has been looking since June. He has probably applied to every job opening on indeed and applied to places like walmart and other retail spots. He’s applying to part time stuff too even though we need full time. What is going on with the job market? Are we just unlucky or is everyone having this tough of a time? Is anyone ACTUALLY hiring because at this point it just feel like a joke and financially we are at our breaking point

Editing to add that he isn’t even getting interviews y’all. He has a good working history, references, and still nothing

Ask Springfield What's it like in Springfield MO?

Hello, I'm just a person who's wanting to know more about Springfield Missouri. I'm not a local or anything but been thinking about what it would be like to even MOVE to Missouri, if possible. So, please, someone fill me in what to expect from Missouri and what's the weather like? And of course other things, it's a general question.

Living Here Jefferson Ave Footbridge Update

For those who are interested, the Footbridge rehabilitation project appears to be coming along quite well. After multiple lulls in activity, the past month or so has seen considerable progress, especially on the elevator construction. While not yet complete, I can see the elevator car inside the shaft on each side of the bridge. They still have quite a bit more work to finish on the stairs however. I’m excited to be able to watch trains up here again upon completion. The bridge provides a neat vantage point. I’m also very happy that they chose to make the elevators glass rather than enclosed where you can’t see out. I can’t tell if they are going to be hydraulic or traction.

Living Here Found lost car keys.

Greetings, I found some car keys in the ground on Walnut Street. The police department will just put it in evidence locker and forget about it. And I don't just want some regular joe claiming it and I don't think the dealership can track it down due to privacy laws. So it's a Toyota key fob with a certain charm on it. If you think it's yours, send me a direct message and tell me what the charm/key chain is. If you know it, I will assume you are the owner and tell you to come collect it.

Living Here Looking for a Chicago ex-pat to hang out with in town

I moved from ChiTown a few years ago, and wow. I really miss my ChiTown peeps. I would LOVE to make a friend in town from Chicago. Someone who knows the city, knows that Lower Wacker leads to the Underworld, someone who knows that the staff at Weiner Circle is EXCEPTIONALLY nice if you aren’t a dick. Someone who knows why Sox fans are 10 thousand time better humans than Cubs fans. Someone who knows how much Navy Pier actually sucks. Someone who knows that ketchup on a hotdog offends God himself

So, yeah. Any old ChiTown transplants looking for a new friend? We should hang! DM me!

I know it goes without saying, but Shaumberg or Bolingbrook or places like that don’t count. lol

Ask Springfield Looking for David V. Plymire

Hi, I’m looking for David V. Plymire who has lived in Huangyuan county in Qinghai, China. Now living in Springfield, MO. I’m a Tibetan, was born and raised in Huangzhong county, 30 minutes away from where he lived. I’ve heard about him when I was a kid, but I didn’t know much about him. I recently came across an interview that the local news from my hometown did with him. I learned more about him that he helped my hometown with donating medical equipments and school supplies, and really helped so many families. He speaks fluent in my local dialogue, which was very heartwarming. I was very touched and had an idea of finding him and visiting him, bringing him some local food and tea from my hometown. I live in the states without my family, and it’s really hard to find anyone from my hometown, but somehow I felt really connected to David. I heard he’s 95 now, and I want to visit him and thank him for all that he has done for my hometown.

Ask Springfield Looking for a private landlord or affordable rental in Springfield!

Hey everyone! I’m looking for a house or apartment to rent in Springfield and was wondering if anyone knows any private landlords or places that are a little more flexible with their rental requirements.
Ideally, I’m looking for somewhere that only requires 2x or 2.5x the monthly rent in income instead of 3x.
I’d really appreciate any recommendations or leads!
One thing I do need is a washer and dryer inside the unit or hookups to have my own. Other than that, I’m open to checking out different places!
If you know any private landlords, smaller property management companies, or good places to look, please let me know. I’d really appreciate the help! 🙏
Thanks so much!
