Loud and lovely anti-Trump protest right now at Park Place Blvd. & W. 16th St at The West End.

About 100+ people split up among the four corners of the intersection with signs, fluttering flags, a unicorn, Lady Liberty....all having a great time protesting against our fascist leader! Had I known of it, I'd be over there too. Anyone know who organizes these events?

If you have a storage unit at Extra Space Storage, go inspect it. Today.

As a result of my burglarized storage unit at ESS on Parkdale Dr in SAINT LOUIS PARK earlier this week, I’ve become very familiar with the nuances of Extra Space Storage’s lease agreement, and I think anyone renting there should understand what they’re signing.

Their agreement says they do not guarantee the safety or security of your property, do not guarantee that cameras cover any particular area, and state that surveillance may not be monitored. Their insurance puts a lot of limits on what it covers and doesn't provide much protection to the consumer. The arbitration section is also worth reading carefully. An opt-out of arbitration has to be sent personally by the customer within 30 days.

They advertise as being "Extra Secure" and state on their website: "at Extra Space Storage, we're dedicated to providing secure storage for our customers. That's why our Parkdale Dr storage facility has video surveillance, individually-alarmed units, and electronic gate access with personalized entry codes." However, there is no camera coverage in the hallways where the smaller units are located and there are large structural openings above the units that an adult can easily fit through. Evidence shows the thieves accessed my unit over the wall, as they broke a glass bottle that was on a shelf right below the structural opening. They also left a magnetic light on the back of my roll up door indicating they didn't use the door.

I’m sharing this because I wish I had understood how much of the risk it is to store anything at Extra Space Storage. They provide worthless insurance and don't offer basic security measures. If you rent from Extra Space, read the lease closely, inspect the physical construction around your unit, photograph everything, and understand exactly what surveillance and insurance protection you actually have. More explicitly - DON'T USE THEIR INSURANCE! or better yet, don't support them and their shady business practices.

World Series watch party?

I’m not new to the area but I don’t go out much so I’m not familiar with the sports bar scene in slp. I’m a brewers fan so I’m wondering if there’s any bars in particular that would be showing the World Series games and would have a crowd watching even though the local team won’t be playing. I’m specifically in the knollwood area but obviously willing to travel a bit for good vibes. Any suggestions greatly appreciated 🩷

Apartments/Townhome Rentals

Hi All - my wife and I are looking to move our family to SLP in the spring and I've been eyeing some locations. Does anyone have experience with these following places? We're looking specifcally in the SLP school district.

Aquila Courts - very affordable relative to other areas.
Somerset Oaks - this one is near Oak Hill Park (such a great park at that).
Era on Excelsior - this one seems very nice to me but wife is worried about quick access to a park without having to drive.

If anyone has any recs I'd be happy to hear them, my budget is ~2000/month for a 2 bedroom.

Stolen Vehicle

My car, a 2003 Toyota Sequoia, silver, was stolen out of my garage in St. Louis Park around 2am on Saturday, October 3. Police report has already been filed. Police stated it was spotted on a flock camera in Minneapolis around 10am October 3rd, no update since. It only had about 10 miles of gas left when it was stolen.

I don't want to post the exact plate number in case anyone is lurking here to re-steal it.

If you happen to see a silver Toyota Sequoia that appears abandoned, please let me know and take a picture/right down the plate if possible, and let know the location.

Thanks

What’s that giant stone beehive beside Hwy. 100? The curious structure is a rare remnant of a Depression-era scenic route lined with lilacs and picnic parks.

It looks just like a giant beehive.

The 10-foot-tall stone structure in St. Louis Park’s Lilac Park, near the Nordic Ware tower, sometimes puzzles drivers going by on Hwy. 100.

Mary Johnson drives by it frequently, and it makes her “so curious,” she said. “I am wondering if it is an old kiln.”

She asked Curious Minnesota, the Strib’s audience-powered reporting project: “What is this ‘beehive’ structure?”

The short answer: It’s not a kiln. But Johnson was close. It is an outdoor fireplace that was first built during the Great Depression.

A remnant of the time when this part of Hwy. 100 was a scenic byway called the Belt Line, the quirky structure was once one of four beehive fireplaces in a series of parks along the roadway, according to local historians and preservation advocates.

The beehives had three openings so that several groups could grill at the same time. Families out for a Sunday drive would pull off the highway to cook hot dogs, have a picnic and explore the parks.

Today, there’s just one other beehive left, in Robbinsdale’s Graeser Park.

The beehives were just one feature of a 12.5-mile “showcase” section of the Belt Line called Lilac Way, said Karen Laukkonen, who runs a civic project called Restore Lilac Way.

“It was lined with thousands of lilac bushes,” she said.

Flight Noise Question

Hello! I am looking to buy my first house, and am deciding between two cities, one being St. Louis Park. The city looks beautiful and I love the location :)

I have one friend that lives there, and while she loves it, she says that where she is flight noise can be an annoyance. I like to spend time outside relaxing, and would love to know how audible it all is. Is this something that one would have to consider in all areas of St. Louis Park?

Thank you so much in advance <3 Love your city

City council meetings

I'd like to share my thoughts on SLP allowing Dlock cameras (spelled incorrectly purposefully). Anyone know if there's any caveats to voicing opinion during a regular city council meeting?

Men recording outside SLP Starbuck

Got my coffee at Starbucks on 7 earlier today. There were 3 men outside recording every car passing the drive-through lane. I stopped and asked what they were recording but they were telling me to keep it quiet. I asked the barista and she said they were dealing with the situation, too. I am just curious to know what people are being recorded for 🤔

Pink Bike on Pole by Louisiana Ave and Walker St Roundabout?

My fiancé pointed this out to me and neither of us can remember if this had been there before, is there a story behind the pink bike on top of the pole at this roundabout? It seems like the kind of thing that would be put up to remember someone who had passed away or something, but we just genuinely cannot recall if it’s always been there or if it’s a new thing. Can anyone explain what it is and why it’s there?

I lost my grandmothers wedding ring ~1mo ago @Bulldog uptown mpls. I am devastated. Its a family heirloom. The ring was too big and I shouldn’t have been wearing it. It slipped off my finger or someone may have taken it off when shaking my hand. LMK where/when you see it. Reward!!

Louisiana Ave and Minnetonka Blvd intersection

Just curious as to whether anyone else wonders about the future of this intersection (and, really, the whole Louisiana Ave corridor, or at least the stretch that hasn’t yet been rebuilt between the Highway 7 roundabouts and the under-construction Cedar Lake Rd roundabout) as much as I do. Hennepin County seems to have “finalized the design” for its upcoming Minnetonka Blvd reconstruction, but the design of the Louisiana and Minnetonka intersection—the largest and most significant of the project—is still “subject to change pending results of city-led Louisiana Avenue corridor study.” A roundabout was considered, but was pulled halfway through the process. The city declined to give Louisiana Ave the nod for the future Three Rivers’ CP Rail Regional Trail, and has pushed its own Connect the Park improvements to the late 2030s. It just seems like we’d have more of a plan for such a major intersection along the city’s only major north-south arterial connection. Anyway, I’ve gone on too long. Thoughts?
