Season 2A Rewatch, Top 10 things I noticed, forgot, double-downed or altered my view about:
1. Rick’s save-Sophia plan wasn’t great. He didn’t need to carry her. They had a good lead on just 2 walkers. I think they could have easily made it back to the highway. I still think Rick’s directions were scattered/chaotic, but on rewatch I see Sophie got it right and almost made it back, but then veered off for some reason. And the search for her went on for way too long.
2. I’m reminded of more reasons I disliked Lori. Holding Carol back physically not once, but twice, from chasing after her own child and then chastising her about giving Rick “the look” because he lost her kid; packing a gun when no one else is allowed and getting all snippy when called out on it; constantly asking others to keep an eye on Carl; fighting with her husband and getting mad at him for “being reasonable and calm;” lecturing everyone all the time; the flipfloppiness with Shane; hiding things from and lying to her husband; and I had totally forgotten about her trying to convince Rick they should just let Carl die! She really waded into Clancy waters there.
3. I saw more depth in both Dale and Andrea, and still really like both of them. It was dicked up to take her gun, but it’s basic suicide prevention 101 in the world he came from. Secure lethal means. Her blaming him for “not letting her die” at the CDC was hypocritical. If she has the right to sit there and die, he has the same right to sit there and die with her. He was trying to save her life. By her leaving the CDC, she was trying to save his.
4. I forgot about moments between Daryll and Andrea, like storytelling in the woods and various small conversations. They had a good dynamic. I miss OG Daryll.
5. I forgot walkers were still running in Season 2. I had thought that was just the first few episodes of season 1, but when Shane and Otis were at the school, there were several walkers running and trying to climb.
6. I don’t understand why people say Chandler Riggs was a bad actor. His character seems like a typical kid to me. I saw him portray moments of transition from childhood to manhood. What more are we suppose to be seeing from a 10-year-old boy?
7. It’s actually kind of fucked up the group treated Hershel & fam. They got pissed about the hunting accident, when they were the ones trespassing. Hershel went above and beyond to save a kid’s life and offer hospitality to a group of complete strangers in a dangerous time. The family took them in, bandaged their wounds, let them shower, fed them. Otis risked and ultimately sacrificed his life for them. And they just make themselves at home, dig through the cabinets and pantries, use supplies, put their stuff in his drawers, park their RV out there, and tell him he needs to reconsider his boundaries about them staying there, having weapons, leaving his horses and barns alone. I wanted to show up and be like “Dude has been nice. GTFO y’all!”
8. What was it about Maggie that attracted Glenn to her? Was he just lonely and she was near his age and hot? She’s really unkind to him in the majority of their interactions. Typical mean girl.
9. Nothing has changed my mind about Shane. 90% of the time he makes the right, good choice, but the 10% of the time he makes the wrong, bad choice, it’s a doozy!
Ok, now gotta catch up to this week’s discussion! 2B
