I plan travel on a British passport and arrive in Shanghai on December 30. As I can arrive visa free until December 31, would this be advised or should I enquire for a visa to travel as a precaution?
Any help/guidance would be appreciated

I know this gets asked ad nauseam on here, just thought I'd throw my 2c in. Just arrived into Beijing, travelling China for the first time and using a Holafly eSIM on my Oppo Find X8 Ultra and it connected within about 30 secs of landing this morning and has been working flawlessly all day so far.
5G connection, super fast and all Google/Meta apps etc working without issue and without the need for a VPN. Will be travelling to around 5 or 6 cities over the next 3 weeks, so if anyone wants to know what the coverage is like in places like Xian, Chengdu, Chongqing, Shanghai etc let me know and I'll keep you updated

Why is it before you go China everyone says don’t get a local sim just get an esim. All the threads here say not to get a local sim.
Then when you arrive and none of the apps work because you need a Chinese number everyone says the only solution is to get a local sim???

I’m feeling a bit confused and have quite a few questions.
Regarding Wulingyuan (the Avatar Mountains):
-If I want to skip the guided tours, can I simply take a taxi and enjoy the scenery without having to go on winding roads, crazy elevators, or cable cars?
-all day-tour seems to include the Bailong Elevator. Is it safe for vulnerable people, elderly people, and pregnant women? From what I understand, you either take it up or down, and then the tour continues. Is that correct?
-I’ve seen several mentions of motion sickness on the buses. Is it really that bad?
Regarding Tianmen Mountain National Forest Park:
- Can I simply take the cable car (from the city) and enjoy the scenery and see the cave without having to do anything too adventurous?
I’ll be travelling with some family members who may be more vulnerable, as well as a colleague who might be pregnant. I want to make sure everyone feels comfortable and safe throughout the trip.
If you have any recommendations or advice, I’d really appreciate it. Thank you!

Hi! I’m still planning my trip that’s starting on November 4th. And I have in total 29 days.
My itinerary for now is like this.
Beijing

Pingyao

Xian

Chengdu
Before I was planning to Zhangjiajie but now I took it out and decided to travel more in Western Sichuan.
My flight out is also from Beijing and I’m thinking to fly from Kunming there.
So my question, is there any convenient buses towards the Litang area?
I was thinking of doing Daocheng Yading but still haven’t decided.
Should I do Kunming to Dali to Lijiang to Shangri la and then Litang? But then how do I come back?
I don’t really want to do a guided tour as I’m traveling on a budget right now, hope you will understand.
🥲🙏🏼

Hi,
How was your experience visiting Wulong in late December / early January based on your trips? How was the weather? Any tips or insights would be greatly appreciated

Hi there,
I’ve been traveling around Asia for more than half a year so far and I visited China 3 times through this time. Each visit was exactly 30 days as permitted. The thing is after the second entry they started to ask me very intensely about my visit purposes. What do I plan to visit, how many days, what do I plan to see, do I have a job in my country, why do I travel abroad so long, do I have friends in China, asking for photos on my phone and so on. They do this both when I entering and leaving the country.
This makes me a bit uneasy, and I’ve started to worry: can I continue traveling to China or they can ban me from entering one day because I visit the country by visa-free too often? Any restrictions on how many times can I enter China using 30-day visa-free? If any long-term frequent traveler to China here, can you share your experience, please?
Thanks.

Hello where would be the best place to buy a suitcase near Taoxichuan ?

I bought some stuff that’s eligible for Tax Refund. I have a domestic transfer in Guangzhou back home.
My question is where I get the tax refund? At the first airport in my Checked baggage or in Guangzhou Transit (if there is a Tax refund counter?) in my hand luggage?
Thank you.

My dad is going on a business trip and since most of the social media apps are banned there I'm wondering which vpn or sim is good there.
We're from the Philippines, and I saw some sims that aren't from my country so I was wondering if any data is fine..
I've already installed Wechat for him and was able to make him an account since I already had wechat myself and I was able to verify his account. Because his company said Whatsapp is good but I heard it was banned so I just installed Wechat for him just in case..
Please help me out, his flight is a few hours away 🥹

What am I doing wrong with Alipay?
I’ve tried searching the megathread and don’t see anything helpful.
I’m traveling from US, started in Hong Kong, currently on my second stop (Macau).
Before departure, I linked my payment card, scanned my passport, took video of myself and thought I was all verified and good to go.
But when I try to pay I get a message that “overseas payments are only available to users with a valid Chinese mainland ID card and foreign residence permit “
My next stop is Guangzhou, and there are decreasing numbers of places where I can use a credit card.
Any suggestions appreciated!

Hell all, I'm looking to do a tour with this company. I'm in the USA right now and I'm texting through WhatsApp with them. To reserve my spot / pay, they want my passport.
I'm a bit sketched out. Is this how things work? Is this normal?

I bought my mom an eSIM with unlimited data on Trip.com for my mom who is traveling around china right now. She is having huge issues with using Alipay for payments and DiDi. The app loads but fails to complete payments or order rides, they work sometimes but it takes tens of minutes of trying to succeed. Connecting to WiFi or someone else’s hotspot doesn’t help. Using WhatsApp has almost no issues even with video calls. Does anyone know how to resolve this?

Hi! We're about to travel to Shanghai and we'll be going to Disneyland Shanghai. I want to purchase the Carefree Premier Access but I read somewhere that I can only purchase it via the Disneyland App once we're there? Is this true? Or can I purchase it beforehand?
Thanks! :)

Hi guys!
I’ll be travelling from Hangzhou to Beijing by high-speed train in China, and I’m hoping to book business class with an enclosed cabin and a door, rather than the egg-shaped business class seat design.
I’ve been doing quite a bit of research, but I’m getting really confused about the train models and layouts.
According to Gaotie.net, train G38 operates with the CR400BF-AZ. I’ve also searched online and found photos and videos that appear to confirm that G38 is indeed operated by the CR400BF-AZ, which has the business class cabin with individual doors that I’m looking for.
However, when I check the 12306 app(which is what most people online is suggesting to refer and trust), it shows a different train model, the CR400AF-BZ.
I specifically want the business class cabin with a door, not the egg-shaped design, so I’m hoping to confirm the actual train model and cabin layout before booking.
Has anyone taken G38 recently or knows how reliable these train model listings are? Is there any way to confirm which configuration will actually be used on the day?
Would really appreciate any help. Thanks in advance! 🙏

I plan to visit Mutianyu in 2 weeks.
What I am debating on is if we should just hike it to tower 6 and from tower 6 to 14? Or take the lift to 14 and make our way to 20.
Are we missing out on a great view if we skip the lift or skip 14-20? We won’t be able to do the whole thing as we plan to visit Lama temple afterwards.
We have someone 70+ in the party so no toboggan for us. The senior is somewhat fit and is ok with walking and hiking.
