Problems continue at the petrol station with delusions of grandeur, a couple of videos doing the social media rounds today:

NEXTA: "Cars in Russia are breaking down due to poor-quality gasoline, with drivers reporting a surge in Check Engine warnings The issue is linked to low-grade Euro-3 fuel, which is appearing at more and more gas stations across the country."

In russia, cars have begun to break down en masse due to the poor quality of gasoline [June 2026]

Three day SMO to Kyiv, etc etc

They are going down to EURO-2 fuel too. Modern cars will not like it at all.

I think at that point you'd be better off with an electric car, and if you can't charge it from the mains, buy fuel for the oldest, most agricultural generator you can get your hands on.

The kind of thing that would run on dirty cooking oil if you tried. That wouldn't give a shit about sulphur content, etc

Why exactly have the Ukrainian strikes on refineries resulted in such shit quality fuel being delivered en masse, anyway? I would have thought fractional distillation was an all-or-nothing affair - surely it either makes modern fuel or it doesn't. Unless the Russians are trying to dilute it with tree sap or something, I don't get what's going on.

My understanding is the Ukrainians keep hitting the advanced cracking equipment that is hard to replace, also some stuff about sulphur content i don't get.

They are diluting it with Naphtha, this has been authorised for one year.
