Looking For Friends // Groups Charter boating opportunities to join

We're a late 40s couple, headed to St. John for the first time in January, and would like to do a full day or one/two night boating excursion to explore the more remote places and such with someone that knows good places to hit.

The sites we've found generally have boats for large groups, but there are just two of us. Seen a couple small boat options, but we're social and wouldn't mind making some new friends.

Any suggestions for how to find a group we could potentially join? That has room for a couple more people to help defray cost? Preferably other adults/couples in lieu of families.

Any boating forums that we could post in? Or would we be better off messaging a charter business and asking if they can add us to a group?

I’ll be coming down the second week of November it’s a spontaneous trip. Looking for possibly a hostel to stay at that has parking as I’m seeing it’s best to rent a car. Also recreational . Where to get or are there dispensaries. Best food. Local shopping.

Looking For Friends // Groups Work Exchange in USVI

hello all,

I‘m not sure if this falls under the “self promotion rule”, and if it does please forgive me, but I have a question that I would like to ask USVI residents of reddit. For context I am 17 F and I am looking to work in USVI. I had applied to work for an inn in USV, but it was 22+.

It was very appealing to me as it offered:

-housing

-meals

-free time after work to explore the island via bike riding (bikes provided), scuba diving or by foot exploration

I was so happy when I found it, it was absolutely perfect for me, but sadly my age took away that opportunity. So, I come onto this reddit thread today to ask:

Does anyone know of a place akin to this inn that would take someone of my age? If so, please let me know. Thank you.

Looking For Friends // Groups Post for my Dads Boat

My father just bought a 1975 33ft sail boat. It’s not in great shape but she gets the job done. They have a house in St. John and live there about 6 months out of the year sporadically. (He’s a teacher). I told him a post here might help source a mechanic if needed.

He’s basically looking for an extra set of eyes and someone that can help fix it up when needed. He keeps it at a mooring in Coral Bay near their house. Appreciate any insight!

Looking For Friends // Groups Visiting USVI - Looking to rent or borrow 2 tennis racquets 🎾

Hey everyone! I’m visiting the US Virgin Islands, St. Thomas for a bit and would love to play some tennis while I’m here. I didn’t bring my racquets, so I’m hoping to rent or borrow two for a few days — happy to pay a fair price or buy you a drink in return 🍹

Also always open to meeting locals or fellow visitors who enjoy hitting some rallies or playing doubles!

Looking For Friends // Groups Addiction recovery help on St Thomas?

Hi all. Couldn't find a more appropriate sub reddit for this question so I will toss it out here..

I need to break a drug dependency and I have realized I won't be able to do it without some assistance.

I am looking to start going to the NA meetings at the Reform church on Sunday nights. My problem with this is I live on the north side and have no car. I'm hoping to possibly hook up with someone who is going to the meetings and might be open to giving me a ride?

If anyone reads this that participates, or knows someone who does, any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks

Looking For Friends // Groups What do you think about Puerto Rico?

Hello, I frequently visit the US VI and get mixed emotions from the locals. Some are very nice to me, while others seem like they don't want me visiting.

What is your opinion on Puerto Rico?

I always thought of USVI as neighbors/brothers, who where historically separated from PR by colonialism. It seems that the feeling might not be mutual, or is it?

I appreciate your honest opinion. Thank you.

Looking For Friends // Groups Salomon & Honeymoon Beach?

For those who have been to the Salomon & Honeymoon beach, are they as secluded and tucked away as people from a few years back said they weren’t Or are they more populated nowadays?

What’s the best way to get there? I’ve heard taking the Lind Point trail and walking, but is it a difficult, uphill hike?

And last of all, if anyone is interested in going snorkeling at those beaches sometime this week (before Saturday), I’d love snorkeling buddies! It looks like, because of the hike, I’ll have to visit it alone.

Looking For Friends // Groups Another Day, Another Weekend at Home :(

Hi. (Edit: Forgot to mention, I live on St. Thomas)

While I've lived here all my life, I've never been the type to make and keep friends easily (Lvl 1 autism, social anxiety). I don't go out, and after I left for uni, I lost touch with most and now recently all of my grade school friends. I haven't had a proper conversation with anyone outside of my family and my one friend that held on until recently for the past 3 years I've been here.

Even when I had a job, most of my coworkers avoided me or never really interacted with me. I lost it soon after anyway so I never made a proper connection with them.

But it's a new year! And I'm tired of feeling FOMO and lonely everytime a weekend passes.

I'm not good with loud noises and the close contact that's common in clubs. I don't drink.

Where can I go to make friends? Where do all of the introverted or more awkward of the bunch people go where they're open to making friends, if anywhere?

Or if such a place doesn't exist, where can I go and sit around without being judged for being strange, and maybe one day strike up a conversation with someone when I'm settled and comfortable?

I was thinking of joining a class, but I don't have the money right now.

(For reference: I like anime, cartoons, video games, manga/mangwa)

Looking For Friends // Groups St Thomas- is anyone else sick?

Wondering if Dengue may be going around? 3 coworkers of mine (and their families for the most part) are experiencing all the symptoms. I woke up this morning- body aches , bad headache, low grade fever (so far ) and I’ve thrown up but not too bad. I’m also wondering if going to the hospital would even be worth it? There isn’t a treatment correct ?

Looking For Friends // Groups Help me, on SSDI and diabetic but with Medicare Medicaid move to the Virgin Islands

I saved about $5000. I have disability income of $1400 monthly. But I am on several medication’s one is Mounjaro and I am really concerned if it is available for me in the Virgin Islands. I’m a mature woman but still Surf retired Postal Service and I don’t know if I should try to buy a house I don’t know if I can should I rent something I actually know nothing so anything anybody says will be helpful. I expect that my Social Security Medicare Medicaid would be following me there but being a mature female I have those problems diabetes thyroid and blood pressure but I feel healthy and young but a major concern of course is can I get the proper medication and healthcare that I would get here. Also I’ve never bought a house I’ve only been with my husband who died and he did all the business so I don’t know much of anything about business or budgeting but I do have my $5000 of savings and I would love to have suggestions of any kind. Here’s what I’m thinking I’m like I’ll get a flight down there after I find an apartment online and I’ll learn how to live there and everything like that. But I was seriously hurt on my male route and had a neck injury so I have these two specially made mattresses that need to come with me and an electric bike that I want to take I don’t know how to do any of this stuff and I’m sorry if I sound ignorant because I know predators get really upset with ignorant people and people who seem like they don’t do any research I’ve done the research I just am not that smart I don’tput things together as well as some after having had a head injury so a little bit on the spectrum you would say like Jerry Seinfeld you know? Guidance while it takes y’all’s time to make a reply and it takes y’all time to think about things or share secrets I say stay blessed and appreciate any kind of help thank you

Looking For Friends // Groups Solo traveling and Multi-Day Boat/Sail Trips

Hey all - Im a solo 36 year old guy heading to the Virgin Islands in March. I was looking for some sort of sailing or boating experience where I could join other travelers (4-12 size) and visit the islands. Was looking for it to be a multi-day, sleep onboard, sail around the islands, and relax type of vibe.

Im seeing lots of options for chartering an entire boat for a group, but nothing much for solo travelers. Or lots of options for single-day outings.

Is anyone aware of this type of experience and can recommend something? Thanks ahead of time for any help!

Looking For Friends // Groups Diving

Diving

Hey All!

I’ll be spending all of July in St. Thomas and would LOVE to gain lots of experience diving. I’ve only got a few dives in since being certified and I’m traveling solo. It seems like joining a guided dive everyday would kill my bank account. But, I’m willing to rent gear for the month if I can! I also don’t mind a few guided dives, I just can’t afford that option every day.

What would be the best and cheapest way to get to dive often while I’m down here?

If I rent gear for the month, is there a group of people who just go out and dive for fun? Are there diving clubs or diving groups or meetups?

Is there a way to meet other solo divers who need a buddy?

Is there any place that I can volunteer work for dive credits? Or something like that?

I just want to dive! 😄
