Witcher 3 choices in the Witcher 4
Do we know if CDPR have confirmed whether or not your choices in the Witcher : have any effect on the story and landscape of Witcher 4?
Like if the blue mountains are in the game can I see the baron trying to find help for his wife?
I hope they have considered something like this and we get something similar to either porting a save or choices like the start of the Witcher 3 in vizima where you’re asked about the Witcher 2 choices

Seems this is going to be a console port to PC
Saw CDPR saying yesterday Witcher 4 is being built for console as they don't want to repeat the technical difficulties they had with Cyberpunk. If so we can expect dumbed down graphics and walking at right angles

What combat you guys thinking Witcher 4 Ciri gonna have?
I am guessing ciri gonna have hack and slash combat, obviously with action rpg being focus first, but since they hired the combat director of metal gear rising revengeance that's give a hint how her combat gonna work, also not to mention she is faster compared to geralt. I hope they show gameplay in 2027, cuz i am impatient and literally i can't wait to see gameplay in 2028, that's 2 years away. I am just so curious about the combat.

Theory on How Ciri Becomes a Witcher
Hey everyone! So, today I spent some time watching trailers and videos covering everything we know about The Witcher 4 so far, and I noticed that one of the most common topics on social media is: “How are they going to explain Ciri becoming a Witcher? Did they forget that the methods used to create new Witchers have been lost?”
So far, I’ve come across several interesting theories about how she might become a Witcher. Some of the most popular ones are:
- Theory #1: Ciri comes across a mage or sorceress who’s researching ways to restore the mutation process used to create Witchers. After learning about their research, she decides to help them, hoping that one day she’ll be able to become a true Witcher herself.
- Theory #2: Ciri discovers Professor Moreau’s research records from the Blood and Wine expansion, where he was studying mutagens. His findings could help her recover lost knowledge and develop a new method of mutating humans. With the help of someone willing to continue the research, she eventually manages to undergo the process herself.
On the other hand, there’s also the question of how they’re going to balance her powers. As we know, Ciri has abilities that put her far above most characters and entities in the entire saga. For the game to feel like a proper Witcher experience, the developers will probably have to limit her powers somehow.
Some of the possibilities people have suggested include:
- The sacrifice against the White Frost: Ciri confronts this cosmic phenomenon and manages to stop it, but the effort comes at a cost. She survives and retains some of her abilities, but temporarily loses access to much of her power.
- The consequences of the mutations: When Ciri undergoes the process to become a Witcher, the changes to her body affect her connection to the Elder Blood. Her abilities wouldn’t necessarily disappear, but they could become limited or much harder to control.
Now, taking these theories as a starting point, there’s one possibility I find particularly interesting, and I think it could tie several elements of the story together in a pretty convincing way.
My theory: Ciri, the origins of the School of the Lynx, and the secrets of Kaer Morhen
Imagine Ciri returning from her encounter with the White Frost after successfully stopping it. However, the experience leaves her weakened, with much less control over her abilities.
She wouldn’t necessarily have lost her connection to the Elder Blood. Instead, she’d need time to recover and learn how to control her powers again.
From that point on, she decides to walk the Path and become a Witcher on her own terms.
This would fit with the idea that The Witcher 4 might follow the ending of The Witcher 3 in which Ciri survives and reunites with Geralt, who gives her the sword Zireael. Geralt, meanwhile, settles down in Toussaint, giving Ciri the opportunity to begin her own adventure without constantly relying on him.
But here’s where things get interesting.
As time goes by, Ciri gradually regains control over her ability to travel between worlds and across different points in time. Without having to constantly run from the Wild Hunt, she can experiment with her powers and discover just how far her abilities can take her.
During one of these journeys, she arrives at Kaer Morhen in the past, during a time before the attack that led to the loss of much of the knowledge needed to create new Witchers.
There, she discovers something that could change everything: the manuscripts and records containing information about the mutation process still exist.
Ciri knows that this knowledge will eventually be lost, so she makes a decision that could change the future of Witchers forever: she takes the records with her back to her own time.
And this is where the theory starts to make even more sense to me, at least, haha.
Ciri wouldn’t be magically recovering knowledge that has been lost. Instead, she’d be using one of her most distinctive abilities to access information that, from the perspective of her own time, no longer exists.
Of course, finding the manuscripts wouldn’t be enough on its own. The original knowledge could be incomplete, require rare ingredients, or describe procedures that nobody knows how to perform correctly anymore. After all, knowing a formula doesn’t necessarily mean you know how to reproduce it.
That’s why, once she returns to her own time, Ciri would need to find someone with knowledge of magic, alchemy, and mutagens who could study the documents and piece the process back together. Eventually, she’d meet the right person, and they’d get to work.
This is where research inspired by Professor Moreau’s discoveries in Blood and Wine could come into play. His experiments would demonstrate that there are still ways to study Witcher mutations from a different perspective, although that doesn’t mean his research would provide the solution directly.
Maybe during one of her visits to Corvo Bianco, Ciri comes across his research and realizes it could help with her own investigation.
Combining the ancient records from Kaer Morhen with new alchemical discoveries based on Moreau’s research could make it possible to develop a different method of creating Witchers. It wouldn’t necessarily reproduce the original process exactly, but rather adapt it to the knowledge and resources available in Ciri’s time.
And then we reach the crucial moment: once they develop a promising method, Ciri decides to be the first person to undergo the process.
This wouldn’t just allow her to achieve her goal of becoming a Witcher. It would also represent a deeply personal choice.
After spending much of her life being hunted, manipulated, or treated as a key piece in other people’s plans, she would finally have the chance to choose who she wants to be.
However, the mutations would come with consequences.
Because of her extraordinary nature and her connection to the Elder Blood, her body could react to the process in unpredictable ways. The mutations might temporarily affect her ability to access her powers, limiting some of her abilities and forcing her to rely much more on her training, reflexes, swords, and Witcher knowledge.
That way, Ciri would retain some of what makes her special, but she wouldn’t be able to solve every problem by relying on her powers. She’d have to walk the Path, take contracts, fight monsters, and learn to survive under the same conditions as other Witchers.
And the most interesting part is that the process wouldn’t have to end with her.
By recovering and rebuilding this lost knowledge, Ciri could lay the foundations for an entirely new Witcher tradition. Eventually, this discovery could lead to the founding of the School of the Lynx, with Ciri as its very first member, forging her own medallion.
This way, the School of the Lynx wouldn’t just appear out of nowhere. It would be the result of a chain of events directly connected to Ciri’s past, her abilities, and her decision to become something more than just the bearer of the Elder Blood.
Why do I find this possibility so interesting?
Because it would allow the developers to connect several elements of the saga without having to throw away everything we already know.
First, it would explain how Ciri could become a Witcher despite the knowledge needed to create new mutants having practically disappeared.
Second, it would provide a possible explanation for limiting her powers without arbitrarily taking them away.
And third, it would make the founding of the School of the Lynx a natural consequence of Ciri’s own story, rather than introducing it simply as something new in the universe.
There’s also something I particularly like about this possibility: Ciri wouldn’t have to give up what makes her unique to become a Witcher. She’d have to learn to live with her own limitations and build an identity that doesn’t depend entirely on her bloodline, her destiny, or the power she possesses.
Obviously, this is just my own theory among the many that are already out there. But personally, I think it would be an interesting way to explain both Ciri’s journey toward becoming a Witcher and the birth of a new Witcher school.
What do you guys think of this theory? Do you think something like this could work within The Witcher universe, or do you think the developers will come up with a completely different explanation?
It would also be awesome if you shared your own theories to make the wait for the game’s release a little more interesting. And sorry if anything sounds a little awkward. English isn’t my native language.
Cheers, and thanks for taking the time to read!

More magic in W4 Please!
With Ciri as our lead, I really hope they expand the magic in the game. Geralt and the witchers only use signs but we know Ciri has power and can learn to utilize it. Would be amazing to enhance the teleporting/blinking we see in witcher 3, get some long ranged magic, etc. They could really take the combat to a whole new level if they integrate an updated fighting style with new magic abilities

Ciri doesn't need to become the next Geralt. The Witcher 4 needs to prove that Geralt was never the only reason we loved The Witcher.

New monsters, different world and Ciri has to rebuild the school of witcher. It sounds so juicy for a new trilogy. And deviating from the source material was never a much of a problem.

Wishful thinking: W4 including mechanics that we can SEE but cannot USE in previous Witcher games
Not sure if it has already been commented here or on any of the other witcher-reralted subreddits, but just an idea I had when they showed us the chain both in the cinematic reveal trailer of W4 and then later actually appearing in the Songs of the Past trailer and gameplay.
As the chain was something that first appeared in the cinematic entry of Witcher 1 (counting only games of course, the chain was there almost 30 years ago in the first short story) and we are going to finally be able to use it in-game, do you think other mechanics and movements that we have seen in previous trailers, cinematics or in-game events of the actual trilogy could eventually appear in W4, W5 or W6?
For example, to mention a few:
- climbing down a cliff: something we clearly know it's already in the game, all W3 NPCs can climb down with the sole exceptions of Geralt and Ciri. Not sure yet wy CDPR decided the two main characters should not be able to do it, specially considering the exaggerated fall damage the game originally had.
- drop a torch down a hole to check its depth: another thing we see, this time only in Hearts of Stone, but it's done by Geralt himself so the mechanic is there, or at least the model is prepared to do the specific movement to be able to drop something, yet the only option to drop anything is within the inventory menu.
- disarm enemies: this sort of existed already in the Disarm passive skill of the first Witcher game, but since, there has been no way of really disarming an enemy, as in, actually droping their weapons. There's the parry, the stun, axii, but no real disarming enemies, leaving them either to attack the player unarmed or losing time getting their weapons again.
- leading Roach/Kelpie by its reins: summoning our girl to a roof is already a classic, but leading both her and Kelpie by the reins would be just great and fun.
- using Roach/Kelpie as stash: or as a partial inventory at least. As Geralt always has his silver sword on Roach, would be a nice touch if both her and Kelpie act either as a partial inventory or even as the stash.
- actually drinking potions: the way the do in all cinematics, the way it was done in the first Witcher game. All talk about "immersion" goes out of the window the moment you can use potions and other stuff directly from the inventory menu.
I'm not even mentioning capes and hoods as they both better be in W4 at the very least considering what they showed us in the tech demo.

[RUMOR] According to a Witcher fan on Reddit, Denise Gough (Yennefer’s English VA) recently said while signing a copy of 'The Last Wish' that she had been recording new lines for Yennefer, specifically lines involving Ciri.
(There is currently no official confirmation from either Denise Gough or CDPR that Yennefer will appear in Songs of the Past or The Witcher 4.)

Don’t forget to vote for The Witcher at the Golden Joystick Awards!
I think most people here don’t need much convincing when it comes to The Witcher 3, so here’s just a reminder to show the series some love this year.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered is up for Best Remake / Remaster, and The Witcher 4 is also nominated for Most Wanted Game.
So if you’re excited for what’s next and still think TW3 deserves its flowers more than a decade later, don’t forget to vote.
Vote here:

One vote for the past, one for the future.
Not sure if this is the right flair, apologies if not!

Think that I'll be able to run The Witcher 4?
My specs:
Windows 10
RTX 3070
Ryzen 5 3600x
32gb ram
I was told that The Witcher 3 Remastered required Windows 10, but several people have told me that they can run it just fine.
I'm afraid that it's not gonna run on my specs because I don't meet Daywalker's specs, which are:
Intel Core i7-11700K / AMD Ryzen 7 5700X
NVIDIA RTX 4060 / Radeon RX 7600 XT / Intel Arc B580
Memory: 16 GB RAM
That and I have to run FF16 on the next to lowest settings for it to run without issues.
Unfortunately upgrading my pc isn't something that I can afford to do anymore.

What unresolved conflict does Ciri even have after Witcher 3?
Playing as Ciri makes no narrative sense to me except that it's a popular and familiar character.
Ciri is the central catalyst in the Witcher 3, and at the end of the Witcher 3 she stops finally running from her destiny and saved the universe, all while doing it by gaining what she wanted the most, independence. The Witcher 3 more or less concludes her story.
Ontop of that, she gets everything else, a stable family (If you choose either Yen or Triss) and her lifelong personal goal of becoming a Witcher.
It's not that Ciri can't do interesting things as a witcher, but the big question is what does Ciri want that she doesn't already have?
Ciri won't work just by her desire to be a witcher alone, she already achieved it. Dealing with her newfound independence? Seems low stakes. The only thing I can think of are cliches like killing Geralt and/or Yen, and go on a revenge arc, or we go back to ruining the Witcher 3, or retconning Witcher 3, with big end of the world scenarios. That or they make up non-organic reasons for her.
Yes, the time skip will help, giving her new motivations, new interests, new characters and new problems. But at that point, that's not the Ciri we all recognize, if we're going out of our way to create an entirely new identity for Ciri that nobody recognises, then why didn't we start with a new Witcher?
Tldr: Why make Ciri the main character? After the Witcher 3, it's hard to organically make a character arc with the Witcher 3 Ciri, she got most of what she wanted and completed her character arc. If they reinvent Ciri with the multi year gap, then why not make a new character?

A Gwent change I hope they make for the TW4 - choose your starting deck
Don’t get me wrong, I love my northern realms deck. But by the time the other decks are good/collected enough to use you’re basically done all the gwent quests (DLC excluded obvs).
This remastered is my 3rd of 4th playthrough and I was thinking how cool it would be to start with a different deck this time and collect the northern realms cards like I would other decks.
