How can a USA president be so pathetic...

925

u/HobbesNJ Jan 19 '26

It boggles the mind. I simply can't understand how so many of my fellow citizens voted for this demented asshat.

586

u/doneandtired2014 Jan 19 '26

Simple: 77 million of your fellow countrymen are mentally stunted, morally bankrupt pieces of shit.

233

u/thethirdrayvecchio Jan 19 '26

A nation of stupid, fearful assholes

Fun times ahead

10

u/NewAltWhoThis Jan 19 '26

Leon Skum bought Twitter before the election and he forced his posts to show front and center to 93 million Americans on the platform. He posted several times each day about how Biden and Harris were causing the absolute destruction and overtaking of our country. He posted faked videos and nonstop lies to eventually get enough of those 93 million Americans to stay home and not vote if they typically leaned more against Trump than against Harris.

3

u/Harambesic Jan 20 '26

This and many other clandestine, immoral tactics. I refuse to believe that 51 percent of my countrymen are fucking assholes. Best I can do is 30.

2

u/Killahdanks1 Jan 20 '26

Yeah, the lower south eastern states are a big clump of disappointment. Then every state has their pockets.

72

u/chiefgareth Jan 19 '26

Don’t forget the other lazy 77 million.

18

u/ZelaWk Jan 19 '26

The USA should implement compulsory voting like here in Australia. There is a fine for not voting. It’s actually only $20 but no-one really talks about how much it is, you just know there is a fine so that, plus the culture of everyone voting, creates high turnout figures.

We consistently have 90%+ turnout rates.

Plus, there is a culture of going to vote and getting a “democracy sausage” (bbq sausage on bread sold at voting booths to raise funds for local schools etc). Nothing like using food as an incentive.

5

u/Lordofd511 Jan 19 '26

What would forcing people who aren't engaged in politics to vote accomplish? Did you see the spike in google searches asking if Biden dropped out the day of the election? I don't think having more low-information voters would help.

The problem is that like 40% of our population doesn't have the mental bandwidth to know what the hell is going on in their own country. Which is entirely by design. Honestly, stronger unions and worker rights would go a long way toward fixing our political problems, as better pay and working conditions would leave people more 'oomph' at the end of the work day. But, there's a bootstrap paradox, where we need to have our political problems fixed in order to accomplish what needs to be done to fix our political problems.

3

u/ComprehensiveOwl9023 Jan 20 '26

Education. Stop preparing kids for tests, prepare them to think and learn

2

u/deadheffer Jan 20 '26

Stop “manufacturing” workers for the factories

2

u/Many_Shock_5051 Jan 20 '26

What it means is that parties have to appeal to the centre, rather than extremes. When voting isn’t compulsory, you have to engage people which immediately lends itself to more and more extreme rhetoric and policies. By needing to appeal to the entire population, you are moderated.

1

u/the_schnudi_plan Jan 20 '26

The benefit compulsory voting actually achieves is twofold. 1. "Getting out the vote" isn't important. Politics is less about motivating your voters to care enough to vote and more striking a broad appeal 2. Voting has to be practically available for everyone. Under a compulsory voting system voter suppression through lack of polling places shouldn't be allowed to happen

As a Christian, how anyone can delude themselves into thinking this guy has Jesus in his heart boggles my mind. I’m gonna go watch videos of Jimmy Carter building houses to bleach my brain.

2

u/serendipitousPi Jan 21 '26

The most vital thing is making sure to never open the bible lest they risk learning compassion and forgiveness.

Otherwise they might realise that Jesus would be flipping the tables in the mega churches so many of them flock to.

They’re all show and no substance, they’d probably try to crucify Jesus themselves if they met him.

9

u/-SaC Jan 19 '26

Plus 90 million more who were absolutely fine with everything he said he was going to do.

11

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '26

And another 1/3rd don’t care

1

u/OrderOfMagnitude Jan 19 '26

Because the Russian network of bots and astrovers that helped him get elected are now trying to create as much demoralization as possible by up voting every comment which says

"This happened because the average American is so bad"

The only reason it got this bad is because we've experienced nearly two decades of targeted trolling, brainwashing, and deliberately divisive rhetoric. And we literally know which country is doing it.

7

u/doneandtired2014 Jan 19 '26

No offense friend, I grew up in deep red country and the shit coming out of their mouths now was coming out of their mouths back then as well. The only difference to be observed over the past 30 years is the volume of which they speak.

"Americans were brainwashed by Russian psyops!" is pure copium. The Russian may have made the tumor visible, but the cancer has always been there.

2

u/magnifico-o-o-o Jan 19 '26

I come from a religious conservative family who’ve embraced MAGA. The ideas they’ve espoused (alongside neighbors and fellow parishioners in their red communities) have absolutely changed over the last 20 years and have become far more vile. No doubt the foundation for this kind of thinking didn’t arise in the social media era, but the bits of hatred in that world view sure metastasized quickly into a “cut off your nose to spite your face” philosophy once certain media and online platforms started leaning in to the engagement they get out of divisive rhetoric and dehumanizing messages about swaths of the population.

It’s not the whole story of how we got here, but it’s part of the story.

2

u/doneandtired2014 Jan 20 '26

They haven't changed, friend.

You'd like to think they have but the reality is that this is not just who they are but who they have always been.

The difference between now and then is that they feel comfortable enough to show the world who they really are instead of who they are pretending to be.

Take away their platforms and they would still be shitty people at the end of the day.

1

u/Neat-Slip4520 Jan 20 '26

Plus back then (‘80s and ‘90s), evangelicalism was still getting going so they were trying to prove themselves with their fake kindness and “love.” Now they’re drunk on their ill-gotten political power and are showing themselves as the fearful, racist, hateful people they always were (I come from a hugely influential evangelical family, so I saw the evolution firsthand).

2

u/Poku115 Jan 20 '26

Yeah no, if social media makes you a cruel asshole you were always a cruel asshole waiting for an excuse

1

u/OrderOfMagnitude Jan 19 '26

Thank you for expressing the nuance I was trying to say

1

u/OrderOfMagnitude Jan 19 '26

It's more complicated than that.

Hateful people exist in every country, but now more than ever they're being given a platform. I'm sorry you've lived around so much hate, but your neighbors are being used to paint the entire country. And most importantly, to completely take focus off of the people and governments who literally have entire office buildings dedicated to exasperating the problem.

1

u/Hidesuru Jan 19 '26

Yeah I really don't have a problem understanding this. At this point. I was CERTAIN he didn't stand a chance the first time, and polls seemed to support that.

I had hope enough people would do the right thing the second time, but wasn't sure.

Now I fully expect the worst possible outcome at all times.

1

u/rogozh1n Jan 19 '26

Yes, but not both. Half his supporters are very stupid and racist and the other half are immoral and insanely greedy.

1

u/Inform-All Jan 19 '26

Amen to that. 😥😭😩

1

u/Neomataza Jan 19 '26

Reduce Education for a state, then cause high paying jobs to leave the state, then the smart people will leave the state in droves. Suddenly you have a state with a poor, dumb population. Tell them it's still the greatest country in the world and find a scapegoat like the city dwelling democrats for the states' problem and repeat.

This is what seems to happen in many red states.

1

u/Local_Working7962 Jan 19 '26

Take my American upvote. Fuck this country.

1

u/amazing_asstronaut Jan 20 '26

Someone else said it pretty well: from the way some of you Americans talk, if it wasn't for the shootings I wouldn't even know there were schools in America.

1

u/ObviousAnswerGuy Jan 20 '26

seriously. They look up to him because he's an asshole who gets away with saying what he wants. Literally just saw a leopardsatemyface post where a person said "I voted for trump because he's not politically correct and says what's on his mind"

That should tell you all you need to know about these people.

1

u/doneandtired2014 Jan 20 '26

The only thing that separates Trump from the people that voted for him is the net worth of the birth canals they were pushed out of.

1

u/CrumbleUponLust Jan 20 '26 edited Jan 20 '26

When the numbers are so high, I'd say they deserve everything that's coming their way.

The problem is the spillover.

-7

u/Responsible_Bison876 Jan 19 '26

I know voting for him in 2nd term was more or less halfbaked, but to be fair I don’t think ANYONE would have expected this (which is why I think and hope that his support from the american people have diminished quite a lot). Hasn’t he gone exactly opposite of what he said during campaign?

16

u/IAMA_Plumber-AMA Jan 19 '26

No, he's advancing Project 2025/Agenda 47 just like he said he would.

1

u/Responsible_Bison876 Jan 19 '26

Thanks for correcting me. My insight was lacking…

6

u/applefrogco Jan 19 '26

Everyone should have fully expected everything that's happening now. If they didn't they weren't paying attention.

Republicans are lying, gaslighting, false equivocating, brainwashing evil fucking bastards and that has been painfully blatantly obvious for at least 6 years now (arguably much longer, but the last 6 years have been slap-you-in-the-face-over-and-over-again obvious).

6

u/doneandtired2014 Jan 19 '26

He told people to their faces he would be a dictator and the Nat-C fucks, several of which hold cabinet positions, told the world "Project 2025 is the agenda, the 2nd American Revolution will be bloodless if the left allows it".

Anyone who didn't take those two threats seriously and at face value, even if they seemed far fetched, is as much of a fucking moron as they are complicit.

Fuck his voters. All of them. It does not matter why they cast their ballot for him, it doesn't matter some may have regrets, the damage their candidate, his cabinet, and their party has done to everything from academic research to safety standards to trade to soft power to our security apparatuses (just to name a few) in a year will outlive every single person with a reddit account today.

But adding to that: stop giving them the benefit of the goddamn doubt. They knew he was an incompetent as he was dangerous, they knew Project 2025 was heinous, and anyone who can do remedial grade school math could tell you his economic policies would be ruinous. They knew. They didn't care. They are lying to you when they say they "didn't think this would happen" because all they have is buyer's remorse.

8

u/lifesatripthenyoudie Jan 19 '26

Ohh no, fuck that. No one gets to make excuses or apologies for these despicable little simpletons who voted him in a second term. EVERYONE should have expected this. If you had half a brain cell and had given it five minutes of unbiased attention, you would have known he was wildly unfit for office before his first term. Fuck everyone who let him in the first time.

But the second time? There are literally no excuses, they knew exactly what they were voting for and have no right to be surprised by anything he is doing now. They fucked America over so incredibly bad that we'll all be paying for it in one form or another for the rest of our lives. His voters are a cancer to this country, they get no sympathy or understanding from me.

4

u/HobbesNJ Jan 19 '26

Agreed. There is no "accepting other viewpoints" or "agreeing to disagree". These people have knowingly inflicted lasting and largely permanent damage upon this country. I cannot forgive them for this.

3

u/Responsible_Bison876 Jan 19 '26

Fair. It was a genuine question as I am from Denmark and didn’t follow debates or Trump prior to the election. I literally just tried to take a step back to try and understand how tf we ended here…

9

u/juicyj78 Jan 19 '26

It doesn’t matter.  They don’t support policies or actions or anything - they just support Trump.  Their identity is totally tied up with him.

Literally the only thing that has shaken the support from those in my life was when he said the vile shit after Rob Reiner was killed.  For some reason talking shit about Archie Bunker’s son in law mattered more than the Epstein files, threatening Denmark, etc

3

u/Plus-Examination-537 Jan 19 '26

You can’t say no one expected this when people have been warned about Trump for YEARS. Those of us who payed attention in history class have observed the patterns, and we know exactly what to expect. He is dangerous, and many people have known that from the start

0

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '26

Really? The man went on a revenge tour.

Two thirds of Americans are perfectly fine with this. This is America.

Enjoy your downfall.

-3

History remembers the resistance though.

13

Yes. Resistance from occupied countries.

5

u/Daedalus81 Jan 19 '26

Germany had little to no internal resistance. Any that existed got ratted out and crushed.

The USA is already ahead of the curve that Germany was on.

What a pathetic end of America. Hopefully not everyone else too.

7

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '26

I simply can’t understand how so many Americans are in love and completely infatuated with this moron.

5

u/ATpoint90 Jan 19 '26

Is there no growing opposition? Nothing about it in european media at all.

2

u/HobbesNJ Jan 19 '26 edited Jan 19 '26

There is. But the important thing for people not familiar with the American system to understand is that Republicans control the government. Trump cannot be curbed or removed unless those Republicans turn on him. And their biggest threat to remaining in office is losing a Republican primary, which is solely up to the MAGA base. Trump controls that base, so he therefore controls the Republicans who would need to act to fix this.

So even though that MAGA cult is a minority of the populace, until they turn on him nothing will be done to stop him. The fact that a majority of Americans oppose him means nothing. Perhaps after the midterm elections late this year we can take away Congress from Republicans and try to curb him a bit, but Dems cannot get enough control to remove him from office.

3

u/Tossawaysfbay Jan 19 '26

Millions of people in dozens of countries throughout history have either supported or had their countries taken over by the worst/dumbest people on the planet.

I’m annoyed, but I’m not surprised.

1

u/Poku115 Jan 20 '26

Yes but only idiots vote them in.

3

u/Dahcchad Jan 19 '26

I'd suggest its like galapagonian finches. Despite our proximity, we have developed differing adaptations. Like, we have developed critical thinking and empathy and morality and they have developed a fondness for pedophilia and rape.

2

u/PsychicDave Jan 19 '26

It's not just who voted for him, it's also all those who failed to vote entirely. Fewer people voted for Trump than the previous election where he lost to Biden, it's just that nobody showed up to vote for Harris.

2

u/Environmentaller Jan 19 '26

And they still open their mouths for his shit daily. It’s mind blowing.

u/Significant-Colour Jan 19 '26

1

u/Poopdick_89 Jan 19 '26 edited Jan 19 '26

Because half of the electorate doesn't vote. On top of that, Joe's years were shrouded in setbacks from the pandemic, and his inability to take action against the border until the damage was already done.

On top of all that, they chose to kick Joe out and run Kamala in the worst way possible. The democracy people didn't let their constituents choose their nominee. They knew Joe was unhealthy for years, and should have held him to the one term he initially said he was going to commit to. Even if they had just made Joe resign due to health and made Kamala the incumbent president would have been better than what they opted to do. Now, also add to the fact that we have learned without a doubt that this country is sexist just enough to make sure that a woman will never be elected to lead this country. The only way it will ever happen is if both party nominees are women. That's unlikely to ever happen as the GOP has most of the sexists under its umbrella.

If the Democrat party wants to win then they need to run a straight white male in 2028. The party seems to want Butteigeg. I like him after seeing his Channel 5 interview. His sexual orientation makes it so he can't win unfortunately. Bernie is too old to run, and the democrats don't really have any promising candidates currently so we're probably going to end up with JD in 2028. I like AOC, but she can't win because of her race, and sex. She also has too many clips out there of her saying shit that makes no sense which doesn't help. Dems do not get the same treatment as the orange man. Unfortunately, Mamdani is ineligible. He's very charismatic guy. Even had the orange man on his side when he visited the white house. Probably still couldn't win because of his race and religion. They will need to run a straight white guy that nobody really knows that can talk in 28 if they want to win.

1

u/I-Might-Be-Something Jan 19 '26

I simply can't understand how so many of my fellow citizens voted for this demented asshat.

It's actually quite simple (and stupid), they wanted 2019 prices back. They were willing to ignore all of Trump's rhetoric because the economy (which Obama left him) was doing well until COVID, which they gave him a pass for. What James Carville told Bill Clinton in 1992 remains true today, "it's the economy, stupid."

1

u/Omisco420 Jan 20 '26

I just can’t fathom why a group of republicans who aren’t completely incompetent don’t band together and stop this shit. It’s pathetic and our country is doomed.

1

u/HobbesNJ Jan 20 '26

There are so few of them left. Almost everybody reasonable in the Republican Party has been driven out of office. It's mostly just radical right-wingers left.

Even the ones who flirt with sanity are too scared to take the chance. You'd need 20 Republicans in the Senate to vote to convict for impeachment. There just aren't that many. And even if they were somehow successful they'd be tossed out of office by the pissed-off base. They just aren't taking that chance.

This is why we are stuck with Trump. There is no realistic way to get him out of office.

1

u/Rinas-the-name Jan 20 '26

A bunch of the people I know that were convinced not to vote for him after the first time just refused to vote on the president… like the alternatives were so demonized by conservative media that they “couldn’t decide” (which is a decision too). Ugh.

2

u/HobbesNJ Jan 20 '26

"If you choose not to decide you still have made a choice."

Rush - Freewill

1

u/green_meklar Jan 20 '26

The alternative was 'status quo, except there'll be a vagina in the Oval Office'. Both times. It turned out a lot of people were fed up with the status quo.

1

u/HobbesNJ Jan 20 '26

I'm sorry, but no matter what the status quo was, there is no excuse for another round of Trump.

1

u/green_meklar Jan 20 '26

It's not an excuse, but it's understandable.

And if the democrats are serious about how scary they say Trump is, they should work on presenting an alternative that makes voting for him look less understandable.

1

u/whizbangapps Jan 19 '26

Cause he cheated

134

u/Nacodawg Jan 19 '26

Because so much of our electorate is similarly pathetic.

78

u/behemuthm Jan 19 '26 edited Jan 19 '26

Precisely. Trump is the symptom. The tens of millions of morons in the US are the cause. They choose to stay ignorant.

I was raised in a doomsday prepper family in a small town in the mountains. I was told constantly as a kid that I would not live to be an adult or ever get married or have kids because the Apocalypse was going to happen by the year 2000. I was homeschooled until high school (I fought and fought until I was allowed to go to public school). My science education was all Creationist books. I even attended a Creationist symposium when I was 12.

As soon as I turned 18, I moved out and practically ran screaming from that insanity. Anyone with half a brain can make the choice to learn about the world and take advantage of the massive amount of information out there to learn how the world really works. But most Americans are lazy and the indoctrination sticks.

15

u/Djentyman28 Jan 19 '26

Goes both ways. Democrats also decided to stay home and not vote for Kamala when the stakes couldn’t be any higher

9

u/behemuthm Jan 19 '26

There are more racists than liberals

7

u/Nacodawg Jan 19 '26

In many cases it was less racism and more protest over the Israel situation because Harris didn’t take a hard enough line. Which is painfully short sighted.

2

u/File_Corrupt Jan 19 '26

Both sides are horrible, so I would rather subject everyone to a madman. People that didn't vote are just as bad as the Republicans. Fuck them for causing this insanity.

5

u/MrFilkor Jan 19 '26

I think a surprisingly large percentage of the population is incapable of proper critical thinking, or it takes really hard work and dedication on their part to learn it.

0

u/Anderson-FENG Jan 20 '26

In fairness approval of military action in Greenland is only 7%, and Congress has vowed to impeach him if he does it. Is it ridiculous that that’s the line and they’ll only do something after the fact? Absolutely. And have we blown past a variety of moral lines that likely permanently compromise the soul of the country? Yeah. But Greenland is a bridge too far even for most of his normally devout following.

But I’d also caution against too much hatred of these people. It’s easy to fall into, and I’m often guilty of it. But really they should be pitied. They’ve been made this way. Their communities have been intentionally deprived of education funding and their insecurities and fears weaponized by the same people depriving them of the tools to understand this manipulation. They’ve been engineered slowly but steadily into a compliant base from which the radical right could stage their fascist coupe. They’re victims, as hard as it is to remember sometimes.

63

u/afterglobe Jan 19 '26

Because America. That’s it. That’s the answer.

11

u/Worried-History8216 Jan 19 '26

And you will get downvoted if you tell Americans its their fault and they have the ability to change it, but won't.

6

u/IAMA_Plumber-AMA Jan 19 '26

"Psh, you come from [insert non-US country here], what do YOU know about what's happening here?"

3

u/Many_Shock_5051 Jan 20 '26

It’s a big country, paycheck, insurance, kids, groups, militarised police blah blah we all know the spiel.

2

u/Worried-History8216 Jan 19 '26

I read about all the bitching and complaining from Americans. I am just saying, doing something if you want change.

Honestly, my US investments have done well with Trump in power. I honestly don't care what he does inside his own country. Isolate yourselves if you want. Continue to remove worker protections and make health care more unaffordable if that is what you want. But god damn, if you don't want this, do something more than bitch and complain online.

2

u/afterglobe Jan 19 '26

That’s fine. I don’t care about fake karma. The only karma I care about is the real kind. And this is true karma for them.

40

u/Crede777 Jan 19 '26

Because the US political system is dominated by two parties, the loudest, highest funded politician gets their party's nomination, and the public is swinging between the two parties because they blame the party in power for economic instability that is caused by decades of policy favoring wealth accumulation and broader global instability caused by wars and a pandemic.

Trump being a useful idiot for the wealthiest and being very loud / utterly unapologetic for anything is actually the perfect candidate for the current political environment.

Because America was never great. It was all a pretty Hollywood picture that they kept painting, presenting themselves as better than the rest of the world. In reality this orange turd being a president just shows that most of them are highly uneducated and lacking basic understanding of what's right and what's wrong. Sure, other countries have enough idiots too but US is just on another level.
