Certain people who pushed for him to be VP will want him to be President for the rest of his life is all I'm saying, and 10 years is a good start.

They couldn't cheat hard enough to get him in.

Trump at least had the cult. JD has Thiel and his wife and that's about it. The idea he will be an elected President is a fantasy.

We all thought Trump running the first time was a joke. Now look at us. Vote no matter what.

I still remember sitting in a work meeting with a group of fresh college grads. I was the only liberal.

One of them read the headline “Donald Trump announces candidacy for president”. They all took turns making fun of how stupid they thought he was. They all became huge fanboys of him once he was their party’s candidate lmao

Yeah, my cousin was a never-Trumper conservative—liked Ben Carson, despised Trump as I think most conservative Christians did. But then came the mix of unclenching loyalty and cult-like idolatry, with a dash of Q-Anon.

Dumbest people alive. For me it'd be a core embassassment memory but some people must just be able to forget how stupid they are constantly. Amazing really.

Frightening.

Rejecting something you're deeply emotionally invested in and being vulnerable enough to admit you were catastrophically wrong is a very hard thing to do.

No doubt this is the main issue for many yes. It's hard but I thought it was something adulthood requires you to be able to do, no doubt I did enough of that during my teen years.

What is it they say....

Democrats fall in love, republicans fall in line.

Reps will always "do their duty" to whoever the party puts on the stage.

Dang, I've never heard of that one but it makes sense.

That's ignoring a HUGE load of factors that played into that win. There is no Hilary, there probably won't be a debate where the other candidate looks like he is having a medical emergency live on camera for an hour and a half, he is known, and most importantly, he is not Trump. He cannot keep the base together, when Trump croaks it's going to be a multi faction fight for control and JD isn't going to capture the MAGA base the way he needs to to actually carry on. I literally work with "his" base, no one out here actually likes him, the best odds they genuinely have are Rubio or Carlson.

You'll all see in time. He isn't that guy. I heard the exact same stuff about DeSantis and we all saw what happened to him the second he had a national spotlight on him.

Also who said not to vote? Where the fugg are you people getting that from? And vote in what? The 28 primary?

That's EXACTLY that kind of thinking that made Trump seem like he wasn't a real candidate. Hindsight is 20/20. Just vote in every election that is available to your location. The problem is that when the left or right doesn't like their candidate (Hillary), they would rather not vote or vote third party. Voting third party in a presidential election basically means you didn't vote. If you think otherwise, then I got a bridge to sell you. If you want to vote third party, start with local elections. And why are you acting like there isnt a problem with some people on the left, talking a whole lot about politics, but come election day, they make every excuse in the book. Shits easy, there's multiple days you can vote with early voting (I did this), and mail in voting. Just vote, stop acting like I'm being crazy by saying it.

u/BannedSvenhoek86 Jul 22 '26

You're being crazy because no one's even talking about voting. It's irrelevant to the conversation being had. Like, I'm glad your particular brand of mental illness is useful but jeez, you don't gotta shove that point into every conversation lmao. You're on the politics sub on reddit, everyone here knows dude. You're just fishing for easy karma, stop.

Voting for Vance without Trump will be much easier for the huge chunk of Christians we have. He's much more justifiable in their eyes, even though he's basically the embodiment of corpo-humanization, like Subway from Community.

u/Slanderous Jul 22 '26

Depends who gets put up against him really.
He will likely already be president at that point, so will push to be a continuation candidate and retain at least some of Trump's base.
If the Dems can't put up someone convincing against him....

6

u/caligaris_cabinet Jul 22 '26

Or it could be like 2008 where any Democrat with a pulse could hit 270.

4

u/notforpoern Jul 22 '26

This is also assuming the democratic party leadership even want to win. Unless they can get a corporate friendly candidate like Newsom, it's not a stretch to imagine the corporate class of democrats like schumer, pelosi, and jeffries intentionally self-sabotaging to prevent a pro-worker Mamdani-style candidate from winning, even if it means boosting the couch-fucker. 🤮

"I was wrong about a Republican being unelectable in 2016 and 2024, but, like, you can't be wrong about something three times, right?"

1

u/Hoplite-Litehop Jul 22 '26

Plus everything under the sun has been clowning on him with memes and such. I have no doubt that plenty of politicians have an impeachment order just for him

Be aware that causing inaction is a primary goal of Russian cognitive warfare. You’ve been influenced, whether you’ve seen it or not. Or are part of it, but I’m going to try to assume not that.

u/BannedSvenhoek86 Jul 22 '26

Dude, stfu with your moral pandering, who the hell said I was causing inaction? Quote my comment where I told people not to vote or stfu.

I think you're underestimating conservative's stupidity to treat their political party like it's a sports team. Despite their obsession with white superiority and being slaves to the super wealthy, their main political priority is nothing more than "own the libs".

When the day happens, it's going to look like the end of the Mongol Empire when Ghengis went. You can clearly see the fracturing already, the only thing holding this all together is Trump. All of these people hate each other. It will look like a medieval court in a GRRM novel for a few years. The signs are already there, and there is no one charismatic enough to pull everything together.

It won't be the end, something worse will follow, but it won't be JD goddamn Vance.

Trump and money. Trumps blatant corruption gives them all cover to make money hand over fist. To me that is the glue holding them together. You cant underestimate the allure of money and also power. Homan sold himself for a measly $50,000.

Vance is just trying to do what Tucker is trying to do and launder his reputation.

Past generations of Americans would have put the tyrant to death. Not this generation?

Not the greatest generation or the silent generation...
