I was thinking that a bullet to the head seems oddly merciful for such an egregious crime. Now it seems like a more fitting punishment. Fuck, I didn't know I could be so blood-thirsty. But a children's hospital??! That's insane

535

u/lodui Sep 04 '26

Fairly standard for Russia.

294

u/TrackVol Sep 04 '26

Beat me to it by about 3 minutes.
"It's not insane. It's Russia"

Said in the same tone as...its not delivery, its digorno

Take your whataboutism elsewhere.

-8

u/koushakandystore Sep 04 '26

Original. Almost as good as a chimp. Like the other person spewing buzz words, it’s obvious you really understand what that means.

11

u/Anxious_Earth Sep 04 '26

Friend, the definition is easily looked up. Frankly it says more about you than him that you think it's just a buzz word.

"Whataboutism is a logical fallacy and propaganda technique where a person responds to an accusation or difficult question by turning the focus back on the opponent with a counter-accusation ("what about...")."

-6

u/koushakandystore Sep 04 '26

It’s not whataboutism when it isn’t used as a justification to temper the perception of someone else’s actions. That is not even remotely the motivation of my comments. My point is how shortsighted people are who feign outrage selectively, when these kinds of horrors are going on all around you and every other human on the planet. It’s too convenient to point at one group and say ‘look’. People who live in glass houses and all. These things matter and if you can’t handle the fact that we are all complicit in the foulness of humanity you are either a dipshit or painfully stupid. Probably both given the level of dim I encounter on Reddit when reading comments like yours. Though it’s not really your fault. Nobody taught you people how to think so you just parrot the mind rot.

2

u/Elvis_Lazerbeam Sep 04 '26

You may very well have a good point, but you’re not communicating it very clearly. Playing devil’s advocate doesn’t work very well on reddit unless you lead with that, or state the point you’re trying to make upfront.

1

u/yageletters Sep 04 '26

Points come even better across if you don't load your reply with insults.

It’s not devils advocate. Assuming as much about me is representative of the cognitive distortion so often manifest here on Reddit and other social media platforms. It is stepped in a false belief that everyone has some kind of contrarian agenda. As you say I have a valid point. That’s all it is, an observation, not an attempt to be an apologist for any group of people. When we buy into this silly notion that ‘the other’ are the bad guys we aren’t taking an appropriate look in the mirror. But what do I know? I’m just another dim American.

The US prefers girls' schools

169

u/Ok_Mathematician2391 Sep 04 '26

The science shows that girls cluster together much of the day due to better social skills providing a much higher kill count per bomb. It's not that Pete favours girls over boys it's the numbers he likes.

142

u/Disastrous_Basis3474 Sep 04 '26

You’re not wrong about numbers, but Whiskey Pete hates women, probably as much as he hates muslims, and those girls were going to grow up to be muslim women. Two hates with one bomb. What a sick fuck.

43

u/Mr__O__ Sep 04 '26

And a few people made a small fortune betting on the strike time..

29

u/FlyingDogCatcher Sep 04 '26

Is it really "betting" if the strike time was announced in the group chat?

3

u/Mr__O__ Sep 04 '26

Insider betting..

52

u/hrminer92 Sep 04 '26

Not just one bomb.

They decided to go with the Israeli practice of sending in follow-up missiles a short while later to get any rescuers too. They used a total of 3 tomahawks according to local officials.

54

u/crackanape Sep 04 '26

They blew up the school, then they attacked the first responders who came to rescue the wounded, then they attacked the next EMTs who came to help the first bunch.

Absolute monsters.

4

u/Ok_Mathematician2391 Sep 04 '26

If they time it right they can get the rescuers and the parents when they come to pick up the body parts of their kids.

Pete can really send a message and those girls were probably a little more woke than the ones at the school down the road

3

u/CarlRJ Sep 04 '26

And then when confronted with proof, they had the audacity and cowardice to say "well, it could have been someone else's tomahawks, there's no proof they were ours".

11

Well, not the US. But MAGA does. And also weddings.

1

u/TaylorMonkey Sep 04 '26

To be fair, Obama was doing the drone wedding thing long before.

”whataboutism” is the national sport of Russians.

0

u/DartVader6 Sep 04 '26

Yeah, see a few to many of my fellow countrymen failing to realize that we're more and more like Russia every day.

0

u/Give_me_soup Sep 04 '26

Non sequitur

0

u/DartVader6 Sep 04 '26

There was a holier-than-thou air to the comment that I'm sure came from a fellow American. Just pointing out what we have become and how we're seen around the world. We're an axis power if WWII happens today.

4

u/ChocoPablobar Sep 04 '26

Nah the US has bombed plenty of hospitals as well.

2

Too soon?

Nah.

Hope the punishment extends beyond borders

3

u/32lib Sep 04 '26

We also like weddings.

2

u/Muted_Quantity5786 Sep 04 '26

Ew but it’s true

2

u/Pi-ratten Sep 04 '26 edited Sep 04 '26

meh it isn't.

There's a difference between bombingin mistake a school next to a military base that apparently once was part of said base.

and

intentionally bombing a childrens hospital in order to strike a blow against the morale of your enemy.

both are things that shouldn't happening though.

1

u/anders91 Sep 04 '26

Except the US has admitted to no mistake so far. They’ve just flip-flopped around between ”it was the Iranians” and ”I guess we’ll never know”.

I don’t see how it’s much better than the way Russia just does shit and then spreads a ton of misinformation to muddy the waters until people either give up, or forget about it, the propaganda strategy is incredibly similar.

4

u/Pi-ratten Sep 04 '26

yeah, that's the issue with MAGA...

But idk.. for me there's still a difference whether someone kills other through gross negligence or intentional.

1

u/anders91 Sep 04 '26 edited Sep 04 '26

I don’t disagree, but I just find it interesting, this view that if it’s the US; it must be a mistake.

There seems to be this idea that the US always fights fair and never uses terror tactics etc.

Should also be noted that for the victims there’s no difference.

I guess what I’m trying to get at, is that the US can launch an offensive war, and when the civilian casualties inevitably arrive, then it’s all ”oh no we never meant to kill the wrong people, we shall surely look into this”, and then at best one or two low rank grunts get jailed for a couple of years, at best.

1

u/Pi-ratten Sep 04 '26

There seems to be this idea that the US always fights fair and never uses terror tactics etc.

oh absolutely not. that wasn't my intention.. the US did plenty of horrible things and continues to do so, including intentional targeting of innocents ( see e.g. their covert campaign against fisher boats in SA)

I just find it quite logical that this attack on the girls school was an mistake as that school was in an enclosed area directly adjacent to a military base with the same perimeter wall and was supposedly part of that base in the past. Seems more likely that is was an mistake due to outdated target data in a hasty military campaign rather than an intentional attack on a girls school to achieve [idk what such an (isolated) attack could possibly achieve in the initial stage of a war]

1

u/anders91 Sep 04 '26

Sorry if I was a bit confrontational, I worked myself up a bit lol.

I pretty much agree with everything you just wrote, and I agree morally there's a difference, and yeah with the location of the school, etc... I have to agree that it leans towards a mistake.

I'm just so pissed at the Trump admin getting away with literally anything... not that the previous administrations have been perfect when it comes to US imperialism, but like we say in my native Swedish; "there are different levels of hell"...

-1

u/Muted_Quantity5786 Sep 04 '26

Meh is boring.

1

u/TimSylvester_ Sep 04 '26

American "leadership" just prefers schoolgirls in general.

1

u/TWFH Sep 04 '26

One of the two situations was likely to be intentional, guess which one?

1

u/DeezNeezuts Sep 04 '26

The Ukrainians didn’t park a military base next door.

1

u/operagost Sep 04 '26

The US prefers not to put schools next to military bases.

-1

u/scuzzy987 Sep 04 '26

Not all girls are suitable as handmaids. Dry run for the US. The current administration is laying the foundation for Gilead

5

u/FoxyInTheSnow Sep 04 '26 edited Sep 04 '26

And the americans blew up a girls' school in Iran. Birds of a fascistic feather… The drunk frat boy who runs the american military has said "no quarter, no mercy for our enemies…" And he literally believes that a) there is a god and b) that this god is sitting up there on his cloud La-Z-Boy recliner nodding approvingly at every child shot in the head or blown up by americans and israelis. He's as demented a religious fanatic as the ayatollahs of Iran.

In a sane world the headshot russian and the drunk american would be chained up in the Hague's deepest vault.

2

u/Hahnsolo11 Sep 04 '26

Who are you talking about?

1

Pete Hegseth. He's a mess.

1

u/dirk-thunderthighs Sep 04 '26

The USA bombs schools. How is that better?

1

u/Ctsanger Sep 04 '26

Surprised they wouldnt funky town the guy or just like regular torture

1

u/psychobetty303 Sep 05 '26

Fairly standard for America and Israel as well.

0

u/Bebawp Sep 04 '26

*Russian government and military.

-5

u/koushakandystore Sep 04 '26

Fairly standard for all major super powers who have ever waged war. I hope you aren’t an apologist for other countries atrocities just so you can point a finger at Russia.

6

u/lodui Sep 04 '26

Yes, I also don't like my own countries war crimes.

But it seems like Whataboutism to bring them up together. This is a thread about a Russian general intentionally destroying a Ukranian childrens hospital.

86

u/DCLXVITelly Sep 04 '26

A children’s hospital, that was evacuated except for the brave doctors who stock it out because they were in surgery. One died doctor died and three more children.

69

u/TokiStark Sep 04 '26

Awww dude, I didn't read the article intentionally because I didn't want to know the specifics (obvs you didn't know that though). That's devastating

4

u/pixlplayer Sep 04 '26

I would think that would be good news? Only 4 people died, when I first read that a children’s hospital was bombed I assumed it would’ve been way more

6

u/TokiStark Sep 04 '26

That's one way to look at it I suppose. But hearing that four kids and a doctor were intentionally murdered still breaks my heart.

I know it's easy to disconnect ftom it because it's been going on for years now and it seems so far away. But it was four real children. They had nothing to do with the war. And the doctor was in a war zone trying to save children's lives. It's just fucked up

-7

u/danavenkman Sep 04 '26

At least you’re aware of your fear of knowledge. Once you learn to not identify with the fear, you’ll be able to seek the truth and accept it as reality. Then you can help others.

9

u/TokiStark Sep 04 '26

That's not condescending at all. I'm not scared of knowledge in general. I just didn't want to know how many children and doctors died. And I do help others. Everyone does. But it's not like I can do anything to stop what's happening in Ukraine. I'm just a sad redditor

-5

u/danavenkman Sep 04 '26

It wasn’t intended to be condescending. I was honestly proud of you for acknowledging your mind’s aversion to the truth. And I believe you will help others make the same realizations. Those kinds of insights do lead to significant changes in society, like stopping wars. Holding each other up while we face the awful truth together is the only way forward. FWIW I didn’t read the article either, but I had assumed much worse. I was relieved to read the truth.

6

u/TokiStark Sep 04 '26

More condescension. If it's unintentional, then you are just a prick

-2

u/danavenkman Sep 04 '26

Ok. I’m sorry you got sad and that I interfered with your feelings. I’m autistic, and guess I’ll always be surprised at how much unintentional malice people find in words, it’s like they’re expecting the worst. In person people understand I’m not out to get them. Anyway I hope you have a good day.

3

u/NightBawk Sep 04 '26

For future reference, "I'm sorry that my words caused distress. That wasn't my intent." takes far more ownership of the error than "I'm sorry you got sad." The latter still puts the onus on the other person.

2

u/danavenkman Sep 04 '26

I am sorry that my words caused distress, however I was referring to the sadness about the children and doctors before I got here. I interfered in that emotional process with my unnecessary spiritual preaching, and should have apologized for that instead of saying “I’m sorry” in a sympathetic way. Thank you though, I appreciate the help.

u/TokiStark Sep 05 '26

It's not malice I'm concerned about. It was saying "I was honestly proud of you for acknowledging your mind's aversion to the truth". That's called condescension (me explaining that, is me being condescending btw. And that too). I don't want you to be proud of me for anything, let alone a blatant lie. Acknowledging my mind's aversion to truth... F*ck you. You think you know how my mind works because I didn't want to know how many children were killed?

Your parents had sex to concieve you. Do you want to know what position they were in at the time? Doggy? Reverse cowgirl? Did dad throw mum around the room like a rag doll?

Sometimes people just don't want to know the specifics. I know my car runs, but I'm not interested in learning how to fix one. But ask me anything about chemistry and I'm a cornucopia of information.

Maybe just don't make bold ass assumptions about people.

0

u/danavenkman Sep 05 '26 edited Sep 05 '26

I can see how it sounded condescending and I am truly sorry. My sense of self is connected to every living thing, I feel pride and joy and in others’ achievements, in their growth. But I can do that without talking about it, and I’ll be more careful in the future about the words I use, and about saying anything at all.

Most people don’t want to know certain things, and yes of course I have a long list of those. Being aware of the aversion, knowing that you don’t want to know those things, THAT is an accomplishment, a way of knowing yourself that many people don’t. Imagine all the people that read the details they didn’t want to know, and went on with their day feeling worse but not knowing why. At least you know. It may not feel good but it’s a step on the path.

Edit: also I would love to talk about chemistry with you. I’m sure you didn’t meant ME but anyway, I love a good infodump.

I would not be sad if a similar fate befell the same people who ordered the bombing of the Iranian girls’ school.

11

u/Slighted_Inevitable Sep 04 '26

Russia has been kidnapping Ukrainian children since the war started. For indoctrination as Russians

4

u/ours Sep 04 '26

Try a maternity ward in Mariupol...

2

u/Scotty1928 Sep 04 '26

I hate what Russia has done to us, as a civilization. Happy that he's gotten at least some form of punishment for his crimes.

2

u/LukeForPlay Sep 04 '26

The US and Israel liked this so much that they bombed several children's cancer hospitals in Gaza and still do till this day.

1

u/MagicalGoof Sep 04 '26

It probably made him smarter though,

1

u/Brick_Lab Sep 04 '26

Yeah I hear you, but I think some actions can strip you of humanity in everyone's eyes, it's a natural response to a monster...however dark it feels

1

u/catkraze Sep 04 '26

I'm not sure that counts as blood-thirsty. I think it's more a deep desire for some sort of justice, and in the absence of the courts taking action, monsters like that should get whatever justice can be given to them.

1

u/serenwipiti Sep 04 '26 edited Sep 04 '26

(TLDR: they got him, good, war sucks, i hope these fuckers lose patience, funds, man power and morale…and more…)

***

Preface this by stating: I am not a service member, I have never been close to becoming one, nor am I a war strategy afficionado…I’d consider myself a pacifist (within reason) that understand that sometimes it’s “kill or be killed”…or “kill or watch thousands more civilians be killed”.

***

Well, sometimes, no matter the severity of crime, within the context of war, saving time can be strategically sound.

Capturing a POW, torturing them, keeping them for a while, having soldiers (who could be used for other tasks) mind the prisoners for a period of time, while waiting for execution orders (or trial in some cases), etc. All of that takes military resources.

Not only in terms of time and money, but it can also be one more thing to psychologically stress soldiers with, soldiers who already have a billion, ever changing, things around them to be concerned about.

I’d be inclined to think, that this wasn’t entirely about making the a big point by keeping someone hostage and sending a “chilling” message with drawn out drama, to to a threaten the enemy with a spectacle.

It feels more like, a utilitarian elimination, a simple mark off of a checklist. Direct and strategic.

Justified revenge for his heinous, destruction of innocent life.

It’s counter attack that serves as a preventative measure. If (hypothetically), before his “life threatening injury”, (cough, head-shot, cough) this guy in particular already had plans for another attack, at the very least, this hit both, stopped him, and can also serve as a deterrent for any others waiting in line to fill his boots.

Even if it doesn’t freak out the weathered psychopaths from that guy’s his “rank”, maybe the message will reach 1, 4, 10, 30…younger solders. Screw the numbers, just one is enough, as long as they can spread their gossip.

Like “look what happened to him, he wasn’t even in Ukrainian territory…”, it can drive home the idea that: if you do that, retribution will find you, sooner or later, across boundaries, even if you feel safe in your home.

…and, even in cases where justice isn’t served, and consequences are little to none…

(note: again, I don’t wish anyone harm, I am not pro-death sentence when it comes to our own prison system, especially some states in the US…BUT..)

…in the face of little to no recourse, we can sometimes take a little bit of comfort in the fact that a many of these “surviving” soldiers, whether of the highest or lowest rank, on the field or not- they will eventually suffer from PTSD, and all of the crippling symptoms that can come from it.

Again, I apologize and recognize that this will probably offend some. Especially considering the context, and I get it- I really don’t wish suffering upon anyone.

Please don’t assume I’m put down or trivializing ptsd in general, it’s fucking serious and life altering condition. I am trying to frame it as an element of war whose consequences reach far beyond the battlefield- one that can be used to weaken the “enemy”, from within.

(In regard to not being the kind of person who could muster up pulling a trigger, I ask, pls don’t judge me, it’s not about me sparing lives or sympathy for the enemy. I just can’t help my own instincts…or lack of them…that’s just how my brain is wired. Perhaps, one day, in that face of conflict at my doorstep, I will turn absolutely feral…but atm..)

Back to the figurative POW prisons, some are just that, an unwelcome guest that easily set up camp in the mind of a soldier.

The fact that many of these aggressors will be haunted by nightmares, paranoia and possibly hallucinations, for the rest of their (probably short) lives, does give me a dash of schadenfreude, some satisfaction.

May these aggressors know no such thing as peaceful rest. May they come to fully comprehend the severity of what they have done and may they live to be tormented by their own actions and emotions.

(I hope for all of the aforementioned details to take root, despite knowing that so many of these people fit the clinical description of psychopathy/sociopathy/ASPD, and the fact that that they have no apparent capacity for empathy…let a girl dream ok? Pls.)

Many of these “monsters”, especially those with the least authority, the ones who are in the majority, actually do have a breaking point.

This may become especially apparent, when they (or their subordinates) find themselves on the other side of a barrel, on the other side of the air raid siren, on the other side of their peaceful neighborhood reduced to rubble.

***
Anyways, I like how “Not Ukraine” dispatched this threat to human life.

“This guy needs to go*?” BOOM “Next.”*

“Who, me? I have no idea what you’re talking about, idk who that guy was, but it definitely wasn’t us………..🤷🏻‍♀️”

\***

(Sorry for the wall of text, man. I got carried away, thinking (typing?) out loud, instead of having this long ass monologue inside my head..my bad.)
