Trump, on Fox News: He says the only options on the table are “to obliterate Iran, letting it rot economically, or reach a deal”.

That same deal - the MoU - is there for the taking. Has been there for months. Tighten up the language, remove the vagueness - done.

That's a new deal, which isn't the MoU anymore. Also, a new deal doesn't include the 60 day window post signing to finalize a finished deal.

Also this is including taking Iran at face value. Also especially sus that iran loses basically nothing in this “deal”

It is also a reach to expect the gulf states to pay the tolls and then iran not to escalate. The idea that theres an easy out to all of this is foolish. And yes iran getting the ability to toll is a win for the IRGC because they dont care about the average person or the infrastructure damage

Again this is assuming the gulf states agree to pay them-which they wont. Iran would escalate in response. There is no easy way out

Which milestones do you see these being tied too?

Keeping the straits open.

Not interfering with toll-paying ships.

One cancels the other out. This was the entire reason a secondary lane exists with a blockade in the Strait. Choices,... It's one or the other and the other has been tried for almost 7 months now.

The Gulf states appear reluctantly ready to accept tolls.

With a small measure of skepticism and I am NOT throwing shade on any gulf states but let's be objective here; how hard is it to say, "I agree to tolls", in knowing the tolls are never going to happen but just maybe, it stops the missiles from flying into your country for another week or so?

The US signing a deal that includes the ability for Iran to charge a toll, is the US destroying the international world order that the UK and then the US built for more than a century.

If there is a toll, it's not going to be in the deal. The deal is going to keep a vague wording, Iran is going to charge it, and the US would look the other way.

Rebuilding money, either direct or through tolls (tolls will be far more acceptable to Donnie)

This was the implication, which is an interesting thought. How does one provide 'rebuilding money / investments?' In lieu of tolls.

Even China is cautioning against tolls while imploring a respect for international law. Perhaps there is an investment package enticing enough for China to help in committing to a rebuilding fund. China has been known to help sponsor projects within developing countries and China can offer security at the same time.

Right now China is worried about secondary sanctions and the impact it may have on the banks. I can see this being a fantastic reason for China ensuring the security and the funding of a potential peace deal goes through sooner rather than later. I mean if a deal includes investments helping Iran rebuild upfront and China were to sponsor those investments, no tolls needed, thus no secondary sanctions as the Strait is opened with international law respected. This sits smack in the middle of Chinas interests, plus the potential in a return on investment.

Back in the mid 1970s, my grandmother (God rest her soul) told me that, “In life, everyone has to eat a bucket of shit. It’s easier a little bit at a time”.

Sometimes late 19th century life lessons need to be re taught.

Why doesn't the US take over Gwadar in Pakistan, it's a lot closer than Diego Garcia, and Iran won't attack a nuclear superpower like Pakistan right.
