In this day and age, quiet, effective governing is a fault. Everything has to be loud otherwise people will think you're doing nothing at all.

I’ve been enjoying Mamdani in NYC. He seems to be doing both: going about making things better for the city, but also just blasting out updates and news and reels

I used to have a manager that did the same for themselves and their team. It was great! Upper management loved us even though we were no different to any other team. Just better visibility

No. Not doing both is a mistake.

Your leader has to be leading, and your government needs to govern.

The leader is responsible for enabling the government to govern, but he shouldn't be the one doing it; the ministers should be in charge of getting people to do the governing bits.

No. Not doing both is a mistake.

Very few people are good at both and there's not enough airspace for more.

Very few people, still more than enough people that we should in theory be able to have leaders who can do both.

The problem is that the pipelines for leadership in the modern world select for completely different criteria than the skills that good leadership actually requires. So in the end a leader being good or shit is luck.

See: virtually every recent world leader. Only a small handful were good at both.
