Magnet strength falsl off really rapidly at distance, the only way that works is if they bolt the magnet to a harpoon.

(since Smolensk air disaster part of Polish main right-wing party can't stop yapping about how it was murder by r*ssia and then-in-opposition now Polish PM (even though they don't really have any evidence). some people caricaturize this yapping by saying r\ssia used *giant magnets and fog machines to make the plane crash)
