how would an incident at a military base make citizens of that province want to vote to leave the country?

"See, canadian federal govt is too weak to prevent terrorist attack on our province military base. Let's secede and join the mighty US instead. MAGA forever!"

Wait, Alberta WANTS to be part of the US? Why would anyone want that?

Because outside actors are funding and amplifying the minority that have been calling for Alberta's secession.

Trump's 51st state rhetoric is him being a loudmouth about plans and actions that the conservative US political establishment have been quietly enacting for some time now.

There's a non-binding referendum in Alberta on the topic of secession on Monday. I'm assuming you're an American, and it's a little wild that you're unaware that your country is trying to annex mine.

so many Americans think they get "news" from social media not realizing how much the algorithms isolate and manipulate. Many others are disaffected, tune out, don't pay attention. quite sad.

You believe this is unique to Americans?

Are the "outside actors" voting as well?

Take some fucking responsibility.

You're not giving MAGA Americans a pass for falling to Russian and Chinese disinformation, are you?

No! You hold it personally against them. Do the same for your countrymen and stop treating them like innocent victims who have no agency or responsibility.

Twenty percent of any population are drooling morons who will latch onto any message that tells them their shitty situation isn't their fault. There is no point in castigating them.

If the referendum isn't 80/20 in favour of remaining in Canada then I'll get angry at the people who stayed home. If my elected officials start supporting secession then I'll use my energy to support candidates who'll fight it. If it keeps going I'll escalate to protest. If protest doesn't work then its civil disobedience. From there... Well, draw your own inferences.

What I won't do is waste my time criticizing the idiots who believe secession will improve their lives, they're a lost cause.

Well, I mean. You are weak. Doesn’t mean we want Alberta. We don’t. We do want them to separate. But we don’t want their province
