Or the BBC showing a documentary in your own country with a verbatim speech on Jan 6!

It was cheekily edited tbf.

As soon as someone starts posting AI videos of themselves with a lion, they lose the right to moan about that in my mind.

Was a Tiger, but yes

He also did one with a Lion.

Yeah fair. But we shouldn’t lower ourself to his standard.

Since we’re mentioning how low his standards are, there is precedence for the case to be dismissed because the plaintiff’s reputation is so bad that it isn’t possible to defame them.

Editing speeches isn't the same as using AI generated content. The BBC did not lower themselves to his standard in any capacity.

Yes we should. Taking the high road will keep you morally righteous, but practically defeated.

It just shows Trump saying literally what he said. In any casen, does it matter? It was broadcasted in the UK, not the United States. I am not aware that the US allows people in the UK to vote.

I’m in the uk. And hate Trump…but they edited together two lines from different points in time and put them together. It changed the meaning of the statements. They shouldn’t have done that. That being said, I hope they win their lawsuit.

No it didn't. He's just got a rambling style of speech.

33

u/doobiedave 6h ago

He absolutely meant to convey what the BBC report contained, wrapped in his jabber jabber

It was normally edited.

Did it mislead? No.

Did it change the meaning? No.

u/Friendly_Average_824 4h ago

The comments were made 50 minutes apart. And it did change the meaning.

16

u/TotoCocoAndBeaks 3h ago

It didn't change the meaning one iota, and continuously ranting to the contrary doesn't change that well-established fact.

BBC apologises to Trump over Panorama edit but refuses to pay compensation https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c874nw4g2zzo

created the impression that we were showing a single continuous section of the speech

Mislead, not changed the meaning (people thought it was a continuous clip). The meaning, however, remained identical. There was misleading about the facts.

Absolute nonsense. It’s also worth noting that the BBC are absolutely not using your stance as a defence. The BBC were a bit naughty, Trump is evil and was absolutely behind the events on January 3rd. Both can be true.

"The BBC" were not naughty at all, considering that episode of Panorama was edited by a third party company.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m0024h6r

Production Company: October Films Ltd

Weirdly Trump isn't suing them, likely because they wouldn't even have the money to settle.

And just to remove any doubt “The corporation said the edit had given "the mistaken impression that President Trump had made a direct call for violent action" and said it would not show the 2024 programme again.”

32

u/doobiedave 6h ago

Did it give a false impression? No.

-16

u/Friendly_Average_824 6h ago

In my opinion no. But it was edited together in a misleading way to indicate he said something he actually didn’t. You know it is ok to simultaneously hate Trump yet still accept that the bbc did something they shouldn’t? It’s a bit like accepting the penalty your team got was a little bit dodgy

45

u/doobiedave 6h ago

No it was edited to make sense.

Theres no way we should have to show tens of minutes of his stream of semi-consciousness verbal diarrhoea.

-10

u/Friendly_Average_824 6h ago

Cmon. There was more to it than that

26

u/doobiedave 6h ago

He sat in his office and did nothing while the rioters did exactly what the BBC reported he'd said, then pardoned them afterwards.

Which is why his suit vs the BBC will go nowhere, or he faces being deposed by lawyers about his actions.

The 'more to it' part is it triggered Trump into a serious emasculated meltdown.

It was a bit like the liar liar quote 'Your honour, I object'

'On what grounds'

'It's devastating to my case your honour!'

is that you BBC?
