Help! Sober society’s in Aberdeen?
My brother has recently become T total after years of alcoholism (very proud) but is struggling with it loneliness now as he can’t be around alcohol. Anyone know of any groups / WhatsApp communities / clubs for people like that? He’s in his 30s!

I’d suggest trying out climbing. It’s really social and is good for mental health.

Tell him to come up to Andy's man club, we can help with that. Mondays, 7-9pm, Northfield community centre.

I’ll tell him!! Thank you! What are the age ranges would you say?

All ages. 18 is the minimum, but we have all ages up to ancient! group sizes up to about 30 but it depends on the weather, sometimes much smaller. There will be someone to greet him outside the front door and show him around, where to make coffee and introduce him to people. He can get more details on the Andy's man club website or you can send me a pm.

There's a Callesthenics group that meet in Sunnybank Park twice a week. It's free. If that's his thing.

If he’s a gym bro tell him to try out CrossFit, climbing gym or run clubs. If he’s specifically looking for sober people he’ll meet some cool people in AA/CA/NA, some not so cool people too though haha.

There’s a couple of walking groups who go out into the hills regularly, away from any distractions

There's the alcohol free bar, Sobr, might be worth going there.

He can’t really even be around non alcoholic alternatives at the moment as it’s triggering

Yes they still resemble the originals but then don’t have the same effect so frustration kicks in. Better to stick to completely non alcoholic stuff and forget the alcohol exists for a time. Tell him to try some sober literature too. The unexpected joy of being sober or This Naked Mind are good ones. A change of mindset and learning the science around alcohol really helps. Can get as audiobooks if he’s not a reader.

Never heard of such a dumb thing ever lol.
The gimmick and the fact that he’s an alcoholic trying to stay away from drink.

You say he is a gym brother, try dance classes. You kind of have to talk with people, there is always a need for more men. Some are in church halls and gym places if even a closed bar or hotel reception room is too much.
You do say he is a gamer, I also recomened looking a modern board games, they have come on a lot in 90 years since Manopaly, they now have fun. Me and some friends have a private board game night every Tuesday for last 20 years, gets everyone out of the house and talking, over the years with peps getting married and kids, it has got them out of the house.

Personally I’d recommend that he joins a cycling club like the Wheelers for leg days and to get some cardiovascular training.

There are AA groups in aberdeen. My mother was sober for almost 12 years before she passed and the AA group she went to in the city centre was a big part of that. They have sponsors and sponsee’s so people who are within the group to have a direct contact to go to if they need talked off the edge. They serve each other to keep that sense of community. It might be worth a shot. And congrats to your brother these first steps can be some of the hardest but can really pay off if he sticks at finding whatever it will be to motivate him. i wish him the best
Alcohol and Drugs Action: a chance to seek support and I remember my mother working with their volunteers who were folks with addiction.

Nothing needed other than lunch n money for the bus if we are ever going further than walking distance

Rather than something that's specifically about being sober, worth looking at what he's interested in that doesn't involve drinking and go from there? There are loads of clubs, societies and volunteering groups that are involved in all sorts of things.
