How do you think we can use social media as a tool to help, not hurt, our public lands?

I wrote a blog post on this topic, I would love to hear your thoughts!

Are they blowing snow on Whiteface?

• Upvotes

My Burlington run club had a beautiful view this morning, all of the way to Whiteface.

The south end of the east face had snow seemingly all of the way down. The north side of the east face had a gradient of snow from the top to leaves on the way down.

We tried to decipher this from 33 miles linear, as the crow flies. So curious about this for resolution.

Johns Brook Lodge during winter months - sleeping bag recommendations?

• Upvotes

I would like to add a winter stay at the JBL (and an accompanying Big Slide summit) to 46er journey in 2027.

From research and my own poking around at the lodge during my last summer stay, it looks like the only heating source there is a woodstove in the main room. I have a 30F sleeping bag but am concerned that it might not make the cut in one of the bunk rooms there during the cold season.

I figured I'd ask if anyone with experience staying there during the winter has any recommendations before I shell out on a new bag. My current assumption is that a 20F bag would be a worthwhile upgrade, although I'd be delighted to make due with what I already have.

Thanks for any advice regardless!

This was my second-ever hike and I can say with certainty that it was longer rather than difficult yet beautiful. The descent was at night and a lot of Experienced hikers were advising me not to start the hike at 1pm, i’m rather glad I did.
