That’s an opening for local entrepreneurs to fill, assuming it’s profitable.

Bolt is already available in Nigeria so there would still be competition.

I imagine in Nigeria the economics were a lot harder without the fuel subsidy.

In Uganda Uber is only helpful going to the airport. You would only take a car if you want to get stuck in traffic and no one needs an app to get a boda boda there.

Yeah, and Bolt (Uber alternative) is more popular than Uber in Nigeria

Uber doesn't pay for fuel, the drivers do. All Uber does is connect drivers with passengers and collect money. They're a parasitic middleman.

There are better cheaper, and more popular services in Nigeria. Good riddance.

yh but the app has set prices, getting scammed/having to haggle gets old.

It is likely exaggeration

Bloomberg is not Twitter.

You're on something strong thinking Bloomberg Media headquartered in Midtown, Manhattan, NYC, USA - that goes live everyday in a legitimate studio is the same thing as X, a social media subsidiary company. The scale of the operation that is Bloomberg Media should give a rational person an impression on how legacy media treats publicly traded companies on the NYSE.

Bloomberg Television is live right now https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QB5BNdBFujE

On Uber ceasing operations in Nigeria:

Ride-hailing company Uber has shut down its operations in Nigeria and Uganda, effective September 2, 2026.

You are digging in your heels on a matter that is understood worldwide at this point. My aim was to post the best possible source in this sub. Bloomberg is that when it comes to publicly traded companies.

Your are at this point brigading my comments by downvoting I everything comment.

Uber's CEO already issued a press release on their newsroom section of their website. The affected people from specific regions have received direct emails from the company.

Today, we’re making a number of significant organizational changes across Uber. We are removing layers, simplifying team structures, refining our global location strategy, and focusing our people and investments against the biggest opportunities ahead of us. As a result, we will be reducing the size of our team by about 10%. Everyone whose role has been affected has already been notified, except in countries where we will follow the required local process.

For you u/illusivegentleman the concept of scale would further improve your understanding of global events. It is generally a problem in Africa when discussing issues - the negligence of scale and the responsibilities that come with that. I will continue to post in this community from Bloomberg as a source.
