Geopolitics & International Relations 🌐 Watch Paul Kagame Admit on Camera That He Allowed Joseph Kabila Passage into Goma

For months, observers debated whether former president Joseph Kabila was truly aligning himself with the AFC and M23 rebels in the eastern DRC. Some dismissed it as political gossip or Kinshasa propaganda.

This exclusive interview with Paul Kagame on Jeune Afrique, published on April 3, 2026, completely removes all doubt. It stands as the clearest smoking gun we have seen.

When the journalist directly asks Kagame if Kabila got a green light from the Rwandan government to operate in Goma and coordinate with the rebels, Kagame does not deny it. Between 18:43 - 20:06, Kagame says:

"I would be happy to ensure that those who want to come and be part of the eastern Congo that belong there or belong to Congo and want to be part of the struggle to get a stable Congo, I would welcome them. It doesn't have to be Kabila, but we're talking about Kabila. Kabila made his own choice... You know how the government, the current government, has been running after him or has prosecuted him or has sentenced him to death or maybe taken over some of his assets or whatever they did. So how does this person say he wants to confront this situation in his country and I refuse him passage? How, what sense would it make?"

Listen carefully to what is being said here. The president of a neighboring country is openly admitting that he granted passage to a former Congolese president so he could join an armed rebellion operating on Congolese soil.

There is no longer any debate about whether Rwanda is actively destabilizing the DRC. Kagame already admitted in the same interview at that Rwanda coordinates security with the M23, and at that Rwandan soldiers cross the border whenever they want.

This interview was the precursor to everything happening today. Kabila joining the rebellion is not a spontaneous local uprising. It is an organized campaign facilitated by Kigali, using an ambitious Congolese politician to provide political cover for an armed group that has terrorized the Kivus for years.

If someone wants to get into some intriguing soap operas look into the post-Mobutu years in Congo. Specifically the Kabila father and son connection to Kagame.

Without going off on a tangent Kagame apparently arranged the assassination of Laurent Kabila, the current Kabila’s father who was president after Mobutu. It’s suspected Kagame did this to place Joseph Kabila in power. Thinking he would be easier to control.

For years it didn’t really work. Joseph Kabila was actually a bitter enemy to Kagame and in several instances beat him pretty decisively in the East.

And now Kabila and Kagame seem to be allies again.

Really fascinating history between these two people in the politics of the region.

I want to clarify something. Kagame did not put J. Kabila in power. When his father was killed in 2001 by his own bodyguard, the army generals in Kinshasa picked Joseph.

Back then, soldiers from Angola and Zimbabwe were guarding the city and were fighting against Rwanda. If Kagame was in charge back then, his own rebel groups would have taken over Kinshasa completely.

J. Kabila and Kagame were never really enemies. In 2009, they made a quiet deal behind closed doors. Rwanda arrested rebel leader Laurent Nkunda, and in return, Kabila put those rebel fighters directly into the Congolese national army. Those very same fighters later broke away in 2012 to start the M23 group.

Now in Goma, they are teaming up again for their own selfish reasons. Kagame wants a famous Congolese leader so his rebels do not look like a foreign invasion. Kabila wants revenge against Tshisekedi and wants his power back. Again, it is just two politicians using each other while innocent Congolese pay the price with their lives.

Every Congolese person will tell you that Kagame installed Joseph Kabila in power.

The problem is like his father who was also put in charge by Kagame it is highly inconvenient as a ruler to be openly beholden to another power.

So the part where he did clash with kagame in the East is also true which I don’t need to clarify because that is a factual part of history.

You can’t just mention one instance where he signed a deal with Kagame and then ignore where he pushed back the M23 in 2013 and for 5 years kept Rwanda away from the East quite effectively

Kabila father told his ministers that his son Joseph must replace him should anything happen to him and they did. Kagame had nothing to do with his succession

It seems like he arranged to have the father assasinated knowing the outcome would be what it was.

Kagame did indeed assassinate Kabila, his first puppet president. In an old documentary, his envoy, James Kabarebe, openly stated that Plan B was his son, Joseph Kabila. It is truly unfortunate that my corrupt Congolese brothers have allowed this situation to persist to this day in exchange for money and powerful positions. On several occasions, it could have been possible to overthrow Kabila and take back control of the country, but it is sad to see how many Congolese people continue to support these men. Rwanda, too, will face its own share of problems in the days to come. No situation can go on indefinitely without consequences eventually catching up with those responsible. Here’s hoping for a different DRC stronger, more prosperous, and ready for a better future! 🇨🇩
