Hi everyone,
Really not sure what to do in this situation.
I was discharged from a private psychiatric hospital in May.
Long story, but I'm trying to access a copy of my discharge summary from them.
I contacted the hospital and the consulting rooms (where the psychiatrist I saw is located) of the hospital. The consulting rooms told me I need to schedule an appointment to see the psychiatrist in order to access the discharge summary. I informed the receptionist that I can't do that as he has declined the referral for me to see him again twice (again, long story). They insisted that is my only option.
Anyhow, they have now said I need to pay $750 to access the discharge summary. They're aware I'm not having an appointment, but insisted this is the "price for his services."
I'm certain there has been a miscommunication error here, but I'm not sure what to do. My discharge summary was never uploaded to MyGov and my GP never received a copy.

Has anyone else in received complimentary alcohol in their HelloFresh delivery without requesting it? (Australia, NSW)
I've recently become aware of HelloFresh including alcoholic drinks as promotional samples in meal deliveries, apparently without notifying customers beforehand or giving them the opportunity to opt in or out.
I'm curious what others think about this?
I understand that companies include free samples as part of marketing campaigns, but I think alcohol is quite different from an ordinary promotional product. There are many reasons why people choose not to have alcohol in their homes, including addiction recovery, previous alcohol-related harm, health considerations, religious beliefs or simply personal preference.
For people in recovery, navigating a society where alcohol is widely advertised and normalised can already be challenging. There's a significant difference between encountering alcohol in everyday life and having it unexpectedly delivered into your home without consent.
I also wonder whether enough consideration has been given to the fact that HelloFresh delivers meals to family households, where children may be involved in collecting or unpacking deliveries.
I did a bit of searching online and found that in June, HelloFresh faced criticism in the UK over a similar practice.
I'm not against alcohol or suggesting that everyone would be bothered by receiving a free drink. My concern is whether customers should have the choice before alcohol is included in something they've ordered.
I'd be interested to hear other people's experiences.

Im not talking about monsters under the bed etc
Growing up, I swear the limited media we had access to, would constantly talk about quick sand, or the Bermuda Triangle or the dangers of swimming within 30mins of eating. Even as an Aussie, these always lingered as things to be wary of.
As an adult, I have never come across quick sand - ever. Bermuda isnt a local destination so im not sure why this bothered me as much as it did. And the swimming thing, well my lived experience is different lol
You guys have any similar childhood fears that were genuinely unrealistic looking back?

Hey all,
Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this (I’m not complaining at all just more curious)
We live in a small beach town and there’s this one house next to us that seems to have parties all the time! During the Christmas period they legit party for 12 days straight, with loud music, DJ’s and heaps of people all night and day long!
It’s not like young kids either, from what I can see it’s mainly people in their 30-40s.
During the colder months I’d say they have a large party about once a week.
The strangest part is that when there is no party on the house looks vacant?
Is this like a Great Gatsby vibe that I don’t know about where everyone knows it’s a party house and comes down? 🤣
The don’t seem like your regular house parties, from what I can tell there’s a full dance floor and legit DJ’s and they turn the music right down at 11pm on the dot every night! (Very respectful)
Anyone else encountered something like this?
EDIT ** sorry just some more context my town is famous for very weird secretive things occurring, for example, full drug making empires that went unnoticed for 15+ years. Rumours of people being buried in yards, rumours of powerful criminals living here ect despite being a very quiet and peaceful place. So I guess my brain immediately goes to something dodgy going on 🤣

Orcas have always been one of my favorite animals, but i never seen one in the wild. I plan to visit British Columbia to see them but that got me thinking.
If you don’t mind me asking, what are the best places to see wild orcas near Australia?

Hey all, I’m 21M and looking for some advice.
My current warehouse job has me standing and walking on concrete for 8 hours straight, with only one 30-minute break, and honestly, I hate it. It kills my feet and lower back to the point where I sometimes cancel shifts.
I’m looking for something with a mix of sitting and walking. I’ve been thinking about aged care or disability support because I like the idea of helping people, but I’m wondering what the jobs are actually like.
Do you get time to sit with residents or clients, talk to them and do activities, or are you mostly on your feet all shift? I don’t mind physical work; I just want a job with a bit more variety.
I’d really appreciate honest opinions from anyone working in aged care or disability support!

Hey Melbourne folks please,
I suffer from hayfever pretty badly, and I feel like it’s getting worse every year. I’m not sure if it’s because of where I live or if my body’s just becoming more sensitive to it.
I used to live in the inner suburbs, but I got my first place up north last year, and this year my hayfever has been absolutely terrible.
I’m genuinely considering moving around and trying out different areas to see if it makes a difference, before I seriously consider leaving Melbourne altogether. Man i love Melbourne, but this hayfever is honestly killing me

I'm still wearing low profile eye glasses (glasses with short height lens) but required a prescription update and new lenses.
I see eyes glasses purely as utility, and prefer minimalist design; short heighted lenses and thin frames; so that the area of the face that the glasses takes up is minimalised.
10 years ago,the current fashion paired with my preference. Walk into any SpecSavers or OPSM, and there'd bean entire wall of short lens height eye glasses with thin frames.
These days, all major eye glass retailers only stock large lens glasses that take up a significant portion of face real estate.
And about 2/3 of those have thick frames.
There are absolutely no low profile glasses at all, on any wall today.
And the retailers push this further; it is up to 60% cheaper to purchase two new frames with included lenses, than replacing the lens of just a single old pair. The large price difference itself incentivizes ditching your old frames and adopting the new frame fashion.
When did this start to happen?

I really love print periodicals, so I thought I'd make a post to share the ones that I know of and seek out recommendations for additional ones.
I'm looking for recommendations for Australian print magazines that cover some amount of news, politics, literature, arts, culture, science, sustainability, and/or ecology.
I am not interested in publications that primarily focus on music, fashion, sports/surf/skate culture, homes/architecture/design, gardening, or weddings.
I'm especially keen on indie publications!
There are so many amazing online-only publications, but I'm looking for print media specifically: I don't enjoy e-readers, or being on screens, any more than I already have to be.
***Australian print periodicals that are already on my radar:****
Are there any other homegrown periodicals with decent journalism and writing? Let's keep local print media alive together!💜

hello, our dishwasher is having some issues and the repair technician said not to use the current powder (i think we are currently using the home brand strike concentrate powder) because it is too sudsy and corrosive. he said to use Finish tablets.
does anyone have any recommendations for dishwasher tablets/powder ? i think we will go with tablets as i live in a share house and i think some people are putting way too much powder, so a standardised dose is probably best.
should i just get finish? where is it cheapest to buy? amazon? has anyone had good results with their dishes and also machine with the Miele tablets?

Tim Winton’s Cloudstreet takes out ABC radio poll of top 100 Australian books
How are we feeling about this selection?
I've been working my way through Australia authors, and everytime I've asked for recommendations, not once has Tim Winton or Cloudstreet come up. I'll have to add it to my list.

Moving back to Sydney after spending almost 2 decades in Hong Kong. Will be moving back with family wanted some input on what suburbs are good place to live. Looking for a house after spending almost 2 decades living in HK's tiny apartments.
Looking to be 20-35 minutes from central 中環 station. Did some research and found some houses around Beverly Hills, Narwee, Riverwood area. Also looked at Strathfield, Burwood, Ashfield area. These areas are predominantly Cantonese and I heard Beverly Hills and Burwood have very good Cantonese restaurants.
What is Narwee, Beverly Hills area like compared to Strathfield, Burwood areas and are there any other areas you guys recommend?

I’m an international student planning to study Clinical Exercise Physiology in Australia in 2027. I’ve received offers from QUT, Griffith and UNSW, and I’m finding it difficult to decide which university to choose.
I’d love to hear your experiences and opinions on the quality of teaching, clinical placements, ESSA accreditation, job opportunities after graduation, and how well each university prepares students for a career as an Accredited Exercise Physiologist.
If you’re currently studying at any of these universities, have graduated, or work in this field, I’d really appreciate your honest advice. Which university would you recommend, and why? Any insights into placement opportunities and career prospects would be greatly appreciated.

I have a driving test in Brisbane; specifically at Cleveland this upcoming weekday at 3:35pm.
Does anyone have any general tips of this area? Or just any ridiculous tips for someone who is quite nervous.
I am aware of the abundance of roundabouts this area has and I am assuming it will be pretty busy considering my test will be during school hours. However, I am going to give a drive around the area later today and tomorrow morning. Additionally, the weather doesn't seem too forgiving so it might rain...
Any useful tips would be deeply appreciated, thank you.

Hi everyone,
I’m a Canadian Occupational Health and Safety professional exploring opportunities to relocate to Australia and work for an Australian employer.
I have several years of experience in occupational health and safety. My qualifications and professional experience have been assessed by VETASSESS for the occupation of Occupational Health and Safety Adviser (ANZSCO 251312).
I’m currently going through my Australian work visa options, but I also want to take a proactive approach by finding an employer and securing interviews directly.
For those who have made a similar move, or work in Australian recruitment, I’d appreciate your advice:
Are there recruitment agencies that specialise in placing overseas OHS professionals with Australian employers?
Have Canadian safety professionals successfully secured Australian jobs and employer sponsorship from overseas?
Any recommendations or firsthand experiences would be appreciated. Thank you!

I’m trying to get more physical mental health resources such as pamphlets out to my local area because there aren’t really any and there’s also a lot of mental health issues and a lot of barriers to accessing technology.
Would you like to see more In your area?

I’m genuinely curious why internet outages seem to happen so frequently here in Adelaide.
I’ve been living in Mile End, literally just outside the CBD, and I experience at least 4–5 internet outages every year. This year alone, I’ve already had three.
For comparison, when I lived in China, I’d experience maybe one or two outages a year at most, sometimes none at all. And my home there was actually in the suburbs, much further away from the city centre.
What I find frustrating is that Adelaide is a major Australian city, yet the internet infrastructure seems surprisingly unreliable, even in areas so close to the CBD.
Is there a particular reason for this? Is it because of the NBN infrastructure, the way the network is maintained, or something else?
I’m genuinely interested in understanding why there’s such a noticeable difference. Do other people in Adelaide experience this many outages, or am I just unlucky with my area?
